Hi, just recovering from a bit of covid. AIBU to drive for a bit like, half an hour or so with my young child and partner just to test my eyes are ok for a bigger journey?

Only as long as it is to a local beauty spot or tourist attraction.

haverhill · 25/05/2020 19:04

That sounds completely reasonable and sensible.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:04

and only if you stop for a wee in the woods on the way back

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:04

What if it's not even a nice beauty spot and only with looking around for 15 minutes or so. My job is really important so I need to get back as soon as possible.

and only if your wife definitely cant drive

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 25/05/2020 19:05

I think any reasonable, responsible parent would do the same thing.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:05

well if its not that nice and only concrete its probably ok

Badtasteflump · 25/05/2020 19:05

Go for it. Just make sure your small child needs to stop somewhere for a 15 minute wee.

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:05

I haven't told my boss...

RJnomore1 · 25/05/2020 19:06

Absolutely, that’s the approved method just to make sure

MumpsimusMaximus · 25/05/2020 19:06

Keep your eyes shut to rest them.

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:07

My partner's a writer, fiction, so will be documenting select parts of the experience. They couldn't possibly drive.

Only if it’s also your wife’s birthday and you strap the child to your roof. It’s not a proper test otherwise.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:09

I think it would be acting legally and with integrity. But do wash your hands. And stay alert. oh no Stay at home. on no thats not right. Just follow your instinct. But wash your hands.

FOJN · 25/05/2020 19:09

I'd get blind drunk, smash your headlights and wait until after dark if I was you. It would be irresponsible to make the test too easy.

Poppyfields12 · 25/05/2020 19:10

Sounds like a great idea. Everyone else should be at home isolating so the roads will be clear with no traffic.

mrswhiplington · 25/05/2020 19:11

Only if it feels like the instinctive thing to do. It's what a good parent would do.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 19:11

Wow! How original!

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:12

Instinctively, I feel any parent would insist their child and partner was with them if there was a chance of veering off the road. It feels responsible and reasonable, but I'm worried, is it legal?

WendyHoused · 25/05/2020 19:12

A family birthday is a perfect time for an eye test via a tourist destination.

CeibaTree · 25/05/2020 19:14

Only if you went back to work in the evening that your wife told you she might have C-19 and you didn't isolate as a household like the guidelines said.

DianaT1969 · 25/05/2020 19:15

It's legal. Even if the police question you, nobody will know because you can say it didn't happen.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:15

It is legal yes. All parents who don't do it are misunderstanding the guidelines.

Applesandpears23 · 25/05/2020 19:16

As long as you follow your instincts then you can be sure that whatever you do will be reasonable and responsible. Just make sure you are ready with a detailed timeline in about 6 weeks.
