I can't see very well, should I go for a drive?

Hi, just recovering from a bit of covid. AIBU to drive for a bit like, half an hour or so with my young child and partner just to test my eyes are ok for a bigger journey?

Well, I think you'd have to take into account whether it's your wife's birthday or not.

Westonsupermarebeauty · 25/05/2020 19:43

Failing that. Come to Weston and we will see you alright.
(not joking, we are really kind honestly)

The rules are really clear aren't they? I can do whatever is right for ME? I've heard stories of people not being great parents and looking after kids on their own when they were sick? I mean I know social services are stretched, but come on are we really happy that people aren't doing what's instinctively right? Sorry, don't mean to be all fun of integrity about this, it just angers me that people don't put their kids first like me. I mean come on, you have no choice but to use judgment when interpreting the advice.

Of course you're correct OP, Jacob Rees Mogg will back me up on that one...

... One should NEVER follow the guidelines/rules/advice strictly where there is instinct & common sense to abide by.

footprintsintheslow · 25/05/2020 20:06

I think you should go for a 90 minute test drive to see how you go.

TiddlestheCat · 25/05/2020 20:06

Can you borrow a Labrador or guide dog to sit next to you in the passenger seat if you need to make a long journey? I think that would be the most sensible decision.

emptyplinth · 25/05/2020 20:10

Why not? Surely that's just instinct?

areallthenamesusedup · 25/05/2020 20:36

I have been drinking this afternoon. I think I am fine to drive. Do you think if I can make it ok for say 30 mile drive I am safe to drive?

thistimeofyear · 25/05/2020 20:41

While you were out... “Would I lie to you?” Tv producers have been on - Dom Cum to be one of the new team captains

Lemonyfuckit · 25/05/2020 20:44

I think it's fine OP because your father's estate is so huge you practically didn't need to leave private property whilst self isolating several hundred miles from where you live, and it's what any responsible caring parent would do to do whatever suits you individually in the circumstances because the guidelines just weren't clear enough about what you individually should do in your own very very special set of personal circumstances because you are very important and special. So it's fine.

Westonsupermarebeauty · 25/05/2020 20:47

Unfair that the press would try to persecute someone who was only trying their best. Like the rest of us. I'm sure op had no other option to drive and or despite not being able to see. At all.

ProudMarys · 25/05/2020 20:53

Sad"Can you see ok Dom?"
Hmm" I' m not sure let's test it. 30 miles should do the trick and let's make to a place that's beautiful, just to be sure!
Smile "Hi random old man, happy Easter!"
Confused" I say is that you DC?!"
Halo "Yes, but don't worry I'm not breaking any rules, I have own guidelines"
Pretty much to the word 😉

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 20:54

yes - because there maybe no one in the town where you live to look after your 4 yr old should both you and your wife fall ill. Adequate child care at these times is paramount.

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/05/2020 20:56

I think if after you've driven 15 miles you can still see well enough to point to the castle then you're cleared to run the country.

Or something.

Possibly it's if your Labrador can see the castle, I don't know.

Westfacing · 25/05/2020 20:59

OP, does the castle look clearer with windscreen wipers on....or off? Off...or on? Grin

At the opticians I can never keep up the pace!

Chillipeanuts · 25/05/2020 21:00

Why but. What’s the worst that could happen ...........?

Chillipeanuts · 25/05/2020 21:01

Not 🙄
Need an eye test.

Haplap · 25/05/2020 21:02

Well, I checked with my boss and he said go for it!

OP posts:
happystone · 25/05/2020 21:10

Yes do especially if it’s a special occasion

happystone · 25/05/2020 21:12

Just put your kid in the car first to check your eye sight if you eyesight is crap you and your kid can be together.

Credenhill22 · 25/05/2020 21:15

Oh darlings I feel your pain...could you not just possibly stay at home like all the other peasants do?

JudyCoolibar · 25/05/2020 21:17

Half an hour is too short to check properly. You need to make it at least a 60 mile round trip.

Nosurveysneeded · 25/05/2020 21:17

Of course you should - no problems at all

JudyCoolibar · 25/05/2020 21:20

Sure. If you need to sit down for a bit, feel free to do so. Just as well you didn't make this trip a month or so ago, though, the pesky rules would have prevented you from doing that!

Haplap · 25/05/2020 21:24

Yeah a month ago it would have been criminal because of all the people unable to hold the hands of their dying loved ones or go to funerals. Yes, that would be a disgusting idea a month ago. Times have changed eh!
