Hi, just recovering from a bit of covid. AIBU to drive for a bit like, half an hour or so with my young child and partner just to test my eyes are ok for a bigger journey?

Yes think I’ll just pop down the motorway to Moorfields. I’m laughing head off at this I’m registered blind and can’t believe he said this.

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:17

Hmm, yeah, I think my problem is that I just care TOO much.

If anyone has a problem with you doing it, it's only because a hostile media is telling them what to think. If they're not sheeple they'll understand.

Sundaysiesta · 25/05/2020 19:21

You should play for an hour in the woods together just to make sure that your eyes are ok. And since you were still feeling sick that day, you should definitely drive back to London the next day instead of continuing to isolate as per guidelines. After all, despite feeling sick, you had medical advice that you were in fact better.

DianaT1969 · 25/05/2020 19:21

OP - you sound wise. I'm in London with only a few friends, colleagues, work assistants and my wife's family members nearby. I might need assistance with childcare next week. Can you recommend anywhere? It's lockdown so I don't want to put others at risk.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:21

Although to be fair, I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of people are angry with you.

Bubblewings · 25/05/2020 19:22

Justify your actions for an hour - you’ll be fine.

Fluffybutter · 25/05/2020 19:23

It’s what any good parent would do , you have to go for the sake of your family !

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:23

yes agreed, we cant ask now about why your wife cant drive you because really youve explained at great length already.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 25/05/2020 19:25

Just do anything you want. You can always apologize later. And then it's ok

TheProvincialLady · 25/05/2020 19:25

The NHS are making a clinically based cost cutting decision. From now on, instead of testing people at risk of glaucoma every year they are now advising them to go for a test drive to see how their eyesight is bearing up.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:26

Or, dont bother apologizing about it, dont worry just wash your hands of it. We need to keep repeating that.

mrsspooky · 25/05/2020 19:28

Oh no Boris dont actually go down that way. NO STOP now

Newjez · 25/05/2020 19:30

Yes, but I would cover one eye on the way there, and the other on the way back, otherwise you wouldn't know which eye wasn't working, and only if you own a forest.

isabellerossignol · 25/05/2020 19:32

OP, does the castle look clearer with windscreen wipers on....or off? Off...or on?

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:34

@kerrymucklowe2020. I'm not going to apologise for doing what's right for me, in my circumstances. I'm not sure if you read the whole thread, but I've got a really important job?

OP posts:
alittlebitdemented · 25/05/2020 19:35

Have you thought of taking more family members with you? Why restrict the risk involved?

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 25/05/2020 19:38

It's Woking Pizza Hut another 30 mins away

Haplap · 25/05/2020 19:38

@Newjez great advice, thanks. My father is a humble land owner with only uncomfortable concrete outhouses to compliment the family home. But, he does have some woods...Great ideas here everyone. Wish I'd have asked sooner!

While you were out. Vision Express called. They have changed their field vision test to “Barnard Castle View”. You now have to get in a simulator and “drive” till you can see a castle. (Used to be a balloon)

1Morewineplease · 25/05/2020 19:40

If your eyesight is dodgy then you can only drive thirty miles to a castle with a small child in your car.
Anything else would be breaking the rules.

Westonsupermarebeauty · 25/05/2020 19:42

Sorry you are lucky to have access to an eye test on the NHS.
If your eyesight is really bad I would try to put in a Personal INdpendence Payment Application.

IT will only take you a year and a half, mine did and it is still not resolved, but the government really cares so I am sure they are on to it.

Other than that, I would definitely invest in a white stick.
Going on public transport best avoided. Even with white stick.

SansaClegane · 25/05/2020 19:42

OP I know just the place for you! Perfect if you want to test your eyesight...
