Just been approved for UC for me and my DP and my new baby however baby isn’t registered on there yet due to his birth not being registered yet (been told to wait 21 days because offices have not been taking appointments). We got an advance of £1,244. But won’t find out how much we get a month for 5 weeks. I’m just wondering if anyone else is getting it and what sort of figure we can expect to get?

Me - self employed, ending maternity this week
Partner - works in a supermarket

Thank you and sorry for posting here wasn’t sure which topic to post in.

Well that was inevitable.

knittingaddict · 25/05/2020 17:01

I mean the two delightful posters who have turned up with the "scroungers" posts. Did a klaxon go off somewhere to alert them.

PorpentiaScamander · 25/05/2020 17:03

Trust me I wish I was working. And I was better off when I was. Sadly I'm just not well enough at the moment. And most of what I get goes to my landlord.
I spent 2 hours in a zoom party with family yesterday. That's left me mentally exhausted today.
I'm also planning a walk to the local shop tomorrow with ds1 to get essentials. Even the thought of going out is making me feel physically sick. I'll probably end up not going and sending ds instead.
But yea. I'm scrounging.

knittingaddict · 25/05/2020 17:03

I think your maths are wonky blank.

Popcat120 · 25/05/2020 17:06

I've had exactly that thrown at Me also.
My OH hasn't been well with his long term condition for a year now, he's only just in remission, and still a moderate to high risk with the immunosuppressants he's on, so with CV about its not safe for him to work at the moment.

I had online 'friends'... Who reckoned I should go full time at work so I wasn't scrounging off the people like them Who are working for their money.

Like I said, it's usually the people who've never been in an unfortunate position with ill health to have to be on benefits that have a problem with it.

Safe to say I got rid of those 'friends'

I took a loan but far lower than yours from UC but that was about 2 years ago, coming up 3 in winter.
I think I took £600 and had to pay back around £42 per month until paid off . They simply deducted it from my monthly payment before paying into my account.

IndecentFeminist · 25/05/2020 17:14

60-70 k is a lot more than the figures quotes here. Go play faux outrage elsewhere.

IndecentFeminist · 25/05/2020 17:14

I think there is some sock puppeting on the go tbh.

Devlesko · 25/05/2020 17:18

Fucking hell. No point in working really is there! Might sign up myself and sack work off.

Go for it and you'll get next to nothing whilst job seeking Grin
The above quotes were for people working but earning less than yourself.
I doubt your excessive lifestyle could be managed on UC anyway, especially if you have a mortgage.
Lets hope you get to keep your job and never have to claim UC as unemployed.

icansmellburningleaves · 25/05/2020 17:21

It clearly doesn’t pay to work!

Xenia · 25/05/2020 17:24

Wow - it seems huge. No wonder my taxes have been so high since 1983 (when I started full time work - not stopped since even for babies and obviously I am lucky to have had work all that time). knowing my luck the only thing I might get is state pension at age 67 and I might die before that - average female death age for 100 years in my family is 66 (my mother made it to 75).

Devlesko · 25/05/2020 17:25

It clearly doesn’t pay to work!

Another poster incapable of reading, do you even have the intelligence for a job.
WE ARE FUCKIN WORKING! You have to be if your kids are a certain age, no workie no money, especially if they think you haven't been looking hard enough.

funinthesun19 · 25/05/2020 17:29

Fucking hell. No point in working really is there! Might sign up myself and sack work off.

Go on then. Come back and let us know how it all goes.

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 17:39

What do people not understand? Like I keep saying the only people who will get huge amounts on UC are those with disabled children so have maybe one parent who can't work and is a carer, those with huge rents ( most of that Uc goes to pay that huge rent) and those with loads of kids born before the two child cut off date - this has now been stopped !!

blubellsarebells · 25/05/2020 17:41

What are satellite benefits???
Ive never recieved them.
Im still waiting for my first payment after apllying 3 weeks ago, calculator said between 700 and 800 a month depending if 5 or 4 weeks in a month.
Fulroughed at the minute, single parent to one, usually work 30h a week for 17k.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/05/2020 17:43

It depends on so much, but I get £947 a month for my DD and I.
But I'm unemployed and live in social housing.

Babyroobs · 25/05/2020 17:49

bluebell - I've never heard os satellite benefits either ?

blubellsarebells · 25/05/2020 17:59

Free sky maybe?
You know for that massive tv everyone on benefits has got.

@icansmellburningleaves yep, completely agree. Better off being on UC than getting up and going to works by the sounds of it! Vile society we live in.

emz771 · 25/05/2020 18:06

Wow - some large amounts here.

Mirrorxx · 25/05/2020 18:06

I’m outraged that people get more in benefits than working a full time minimum wage job. It’s awful that people complain benefits are too low when they are getting that much for doing nothing.

knittingaddict · 25/05/2020 18:09

Definitely a klaxon.

blubellsarebells · 25/05/2020 18:10

Most of us are working.
Most of the money goes on extortionate rents.
A full time minimum wage job is not enough to raise a family on, these benefits are topping up in most cases.
Blame the greedy landlords and employers not the poor people that cant afford to live on poverty wages.
