How on earth is that going to go?

I hope the journalists are properly prepared and have correctly working IT!

Where were you on the "other" dates.

Why did your wife feel the need to wrote a misleading article suggesting you'd been in London the while time, if it was always perfectly fine to travel for the reason you state?

Exactly how many times have you left London in the last 10 weeks?

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 14:22

By stepping up to face the media himself isn't he saying there's no one in government who's capable of getting it right?

merrymouse · 25/05/2020 14:26

Savingshoes, please consider the many, many people who have made very painful decisions that have been detrimental to the happiness and well being of their children and family members, because they believed that it was necessary for the common good.

WikkiTikkiWoo · 25/05/2020 14:26

If at the beginning he had been open and truthful. Explained his concern regarding his autistic son. And the apologised. I think most of the country would understand.

His I don't care statement is what has caused this.

JovialNickname · 25/05/2020 14:26

He won't be apologising and he won't be resigning. My bet is that he's going to make some big game changing announcement that will "prove" he was in the right; maybe a statement that his son has indeed been diagnosed as autistic and due to his special needs can ONLY be left with grandparents. Whatever the statement though it will not be any kind of mea culpa. Looking forward to watching it.

PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2020 14:26
  1. It won't be a press conference. Cummings will release a written statement. Then he will "answer questions" by Millicent from Manchester via Twitter, about the fact he's getting Brexit done.
PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2020 14:30
  1. "Here are some completely genuine photos of Keir Starmer having sex with Lenin and Jeffrey Epstein, while shouting anti-semitic slogans and signing a secret pact to keep us in Europe."
LonginesPrime · 25/05/2020 14:32

The very act of DC making his own statement and/or taking questions on this today highlights the sheer incompetence and ill-judgement of Boris in thinking that saying yesterday 'don't worry everyone, I've spoken to Dom and I'm happy that he had his reasons' would actually be a sufficient explanation for the public.

The fact that DC is speaking shows that Boris needs to go.

ChicCroissant · 25/05/2020 14:33

This could be interesting - Cummings has never come across well when I've seen him on camera so this is really the last thing he should be doing if he wants to keep his job. OTOH, I want him to resign so I'll be happy if he shoots himself in the foot here - but he is an unelected adviser, we don't really need anything other than an resignation from him.

FloggingMoll · 25/05/2020 14:36

Dom's statement later today:

JovialNickname · 25/05/2020 14:37

Sky news is describing the upcoming Cummings statement as "a Box Office event" Grin

Esspee · 25/05/2020 14:37

I am hoping this will be a public apology and resignation.
Anything less then both he and Boris need to go together!

SusieOwl4 · 25/05/2020 14:38

@siblingrevelryagain

That is quite a disgusting comment. He either broke the rules or he didn't. The government made special provisions for vunerable children and adults .
I don't like the guy but to stoop to such a comment makes me think you are part of the witch hunt.

I despair of all you posters who have roo much time on your hands and can be so ignorant of such a condition. Just to satisfy making a political point
.lowest of the low.

Aridane · 25/05/2020 14:38

Cant stand the bloke, but the media calling him to resign, has anyone seen the video with all the journalists at his house all on top of each other with no social distancing

And?

BoingBoingyBoing · 25/05/2020 14:40

Who the flying fuck does he think he is? His an advisor, he's not an elected official.

Tells us everything about who is really pulling the shots in the government. Fucking hell.

Aridane · 25/05/2020 14:42

@Savingshoes

😂😂

(or are you being serious? 😳 )

Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 14:42

I really can't see why this would be good for anyone.

Even if it goes well it still demonstrates that Boris wasn't able to do a satisfactory job of defending his own staff's actions.

They're the experts in all this though so maybe we shall watch and learn.

JudyCoolibar · 25/05/2020 14:42

I can't really see the autism excuse saving him, if that is what he uses. It simply isn't inherently likely that the only other people who can look after a child with ASD are grandparents living 260 miles away - how would they ever have been able to devote the time to build up the necessary relationship with him and understand how to help and support him?

The plain fact is that a child with autism really needs familiar surroundings and routines. Most parents of such children have just coped, if necessary by taking it in turns to get off their sick beds. If I were in that situation and had the sort of income Cummings has, I think I would have taken steps a long ago to pay for a Plan B in the form of a nanny or childminder with specific training in working with children with autism who could take over if both I and my spouse were incapacitated.

FliesandPies · 25/05/2020 14:43

I don't like the guy but to stoop to such a comment makes me think you are part of the witch hunt.

And to call it a witch hunt makes me think you are part of the ridiculous campaign to absolve him.

FloggingMoll has got it. That is literally him!

FliesandPies · 25/05/2020 14:44

There is nothing he can say now to improve his situation, it will only do more damage so either he's completely lost it not to realise that or..he wants to do more damage before he gets booted.

Aridane · 25/05/2020 14:47

People they were never rules they were guidelines

I never understand this dumb and incorrect assertion and hereby refer you to The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020

Aridane · 25/05/2020 14:49

I think all he can sensibly do at this stage is fall on his sword and resign to spend time with his family

merrymouse · 25/05/2020 14:49

The government made special provisions for vunerable children and adults .

Except they didn't.

Families have been struggling with no special schools, no respite care, and no help from family.

Adults living in care haven't been able to receive visitors, and sometimes haven't understood why.

The vast majority have complied because they believed that we are living in extreme circumstances and that it is necessary to 'protect the NHS, save lives'.

If DC and BJ believe that his circumstances are different, so the normal rules don't apply, why didn't they share that with all the other families living in the similar and more difficult circumstances?

Placemarking with Cummings’s best Beanie Biscuit

Aridane · 25/05/2020 14:50

What on earth is wrong with @siblingrevelryagain’s comment. She may well have it spot on
