How on earth is that going to go?

I don't think he is the same as the rest of us

What is very clear is that he doesn't think he's the same as the rest of us. . . arrogant little fucker. I'm worried that this supposed fucking genius is so stupid he gave this farcical 'explanation' and so arrogant that he thought we'd be so stupid as to accept it, while tugging our forelocks and apologising for putting the gov' to the trouble.

RedToothBrush · 25/05/2020 18:14

Its 250 miles to Durham.
Its a 60 mile round trip to Barnard Castle
Its 250 miles back to London.

What does he drive, cos that great fuel efficiency to do all that on one tank of petrol.

Jenasaurus · 25/05/2020 18:17

I feel very uncomfortable about this, what he did was wrong, but he isnt an evil villain, whi deserves to be hated by everyone, I keep thinking about caroline Flack and this doesnt sit well.

PigletJohn · 25/05/2020 18:17

Whenever I'm ill, my eyesight seems suspect, and I don't know if I'm safe to drive, I always think the best course is to set out on a 60-mile round-trip with wife and child in the car.

If we all make it back in one piece, that's proof it was safe.

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/05/2020 18:18

Fgs.

Very Privileged Person being Very Privileged, with hurty feelz and bafflement that his very special circumstances (which no one else has ever experienced or had as bad as him) are not being properly understood .

By people in much worse circumstances in many cases who just got on with it without the option of a second home and believed they couldn't run to family for help because of the rules he made. He has no idea, he lacks the capacity to grasp this. When a journalist put that to him you could see the complete lack of comprehension and his response was yet more "But I had very special circumstances^ with bafflement that everyone wasn't going 'ah bless'.

Not to mention multiple repetitions of 'using judgement'. Several journalists tried to get him to realise that with tracing people will be asked to stay at home, and ask should they use their judgement if it's really difficult for them? He kept affirming it's fine to use judgement. The police and behavioural science people must have been hurling things at the screen. Vast amounts of poor meeing throughout. And a quick rally around at the end of the tweets all repeating tonight's party line of 'move on' move on for the love of God move on and trying to shift blame on to journalists for being 'angry'. As if that's some kind of crime instead of fully justified and a reality that has to be recognised.

For pete's sake Boris just sack the man before this becomes any more of a circus. And let's hope the ordinary people of this country, with whom he does not appear to share a planet, have a hell of a lot more common sense and basic integrity than their leaders.

simonisnotme · 25/05/2020 18:19

its a witch hunt
what about all those idiots going to the coast
the country is fucked and theres a hour special on this bloke

FurForksSake · 25/05/2020 18:20

Those idiots going to the coast have not done anything wrong, we can go where we like in england. As long as you social distance then it's fine.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 25/05/2020 18:20

it is a witch hunt indeed.
the media and co are sulking because he hasnt resigned or been sacked.

chomalungma · 25/05/2020 18:22

Question for the PM

Is it common sense to drive on a 60 mile round trip to see if your eyesight works, at the same time we were told to do essential journeys only?

chomalungma · 25/05/2020 18:23

the country is fucked and theres a hour special on this bloke

Because this bloke is 'not someone going to the beach'

But I guess you knew that

crispysausagerolls · 25/05/2020 18:23

Those idiots going to the coast have not done anything wrong, we can go where we like in england. As long as you social distance then it's fine

Nobody near me is social distancing. It’s a mental shitshow out there - people standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers, brushing past them, queuing close by for ice creams etc.

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/05/2020 18:23

If Boris had the faintest grain of sense he'd have sacked the man or asked for his resignation on Friday and prevented all of this. The circus is of his making. I despair of this lot being able to spot anything serious heading their way even if it's got flashing lights and signs on it stating Large Approaching Awful Crisis.

tobee · 25/05/2020 18:25

Scottish science advisor visits holiday home twice = resigns

Cummings visits 2nd home plus all the other things = doesn't consider resigning

ChristmasCarcass · 25/05/2020 18:25

what about all those idiots going to the coast

Maybe they are worried about their eyesight and using their judgement? It’s what any loving parent would do.

That’s the problem with this. If it’s fine for DC to go here there and everywhere, it’s fine for the other 60m people in the country to do it too.

crispysausagerolls · 25/05/2020 18:25

You can’t just fire a highly competent person who is important in the govt during a national crisis because people are baying for blood. At worst this was a serious error of judgement.

tobee · 25/05/2020 18:27

Those idiots didn't make the rules though, did they?

tobee · 25/05/2020 18:28
  1. he doesn't seem highly competent
  2. he's been caught out lying.
pontypridd · 25/05/2020 18:28

This is not a witch hunt.

Cummings made the rules. We were all muggish enough to follow them.

He’s now going to be responsible for a breakdown in trust. Death toll will rise as everyone rushes to meet family etc

He’s an arrogant knob whose been trying to send the UK into chaos for years.

Do a bit of research. Cummings is nothing like Caroline Flack.

OP posts:
Inoneminute · 25/05/2020 18:28

People weren't going to the coast in large numbers when DC made this trip. That's only happened since they were specifically told they can drive as far as they like.

Plus they weren't responsible for making the message credible.

ChristmasCarcass · 25/05/2020 18:29

If course you can fire them. The Scottish CMO was highly competent, as was Neil Ferguson. They went. I’ve not seen any evidence that Dominic Cummings played an irreplaceable role in managing the pandemic.

Westfacing · 25/05/2020 18:30

What does he drive, cos that great fuel efficiency to do all that on one tank of petrol.

Redtooth - you missed the bit where he's 95% certain he stopped on the return journey so maybe he filled-up then!

Surely he or his wife can remember if they made a stop on that long journey home?

BiggerBoat1 · 25/05/2020 18:31

So we're expected to believe that someone at the heart of policy making hadn't thought to make contingency plans locally in the event that both he and his wife were ill at the same time?

Friends I know with young children have all done that.
Bullshit.
He did what he wanted to do, not what he had to do and doesn't give a toss what anyone thinks about that.

WorriedMutha · 25/05/2020 18:32

Did his wife's account of living with Covid mention his weird visual symptoms?

chomalungma · 25/05/2020 18:33

I am surprised there were no taxis in Durham.

Going on a drive to a hospital to collect someone when you have Covid 19 is not sensible.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/05/2020 18:33

No it’s not a witch hunt a thorough investigation by the press has been made and reported on and the truth is he didn’t fully follow the very guidelines and rules that he was part of writing

The media know that the public opinion is that he should have done so

And rightly so they will not drop this because they know they have the public’s backing

Those in government or in positions of power should always work within the law and the advice that they give and they should always be held accountable

I do not wish for the press to back off now and I am quite certain the majority of people in this country feel the same we have all had to make sacrifices and for many they have been utterly heartbreaking but they have down so as they felt they were doing the right then for us all as we have been continually reminded to over the past few months

He will be eventually forced out of his role rightly so
