Do you weigh daily (I read somewhere this helps people keep the weight off), or weekly, or less often? Or do you do measurements or go on clothes sizes? I'm currently weighing every 2 weeks or so. Just curious!

Frequently but randomly when I remember in the morning.

I know my regular fluctuations and when I'm seeing too much of my preferred upper end. I've always maintained a healthy weight apart from pregnancy/ postnatal when I had to shed a couple of surplus stones afterwards.

I'd rather gently but actively maintain than suddenly have an epic job to lose a larger amount that crept up; although lockdown and the constant presence of my ravenous family is on its way to makinga mockery of that policy...

QueenOfPain · 25/05/2020 13:57

Never, have a history of eating disorder so it doesn’t lead to a good place for me.

amusedbush · 25/05/2020 14:01

Every day, but I take the Saturday morning reading as ‘official’. I’m trying to lose weight though, and I’m happy as long as the month to month trend is downward.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 25/05/2020 14:06

Wow! I went and cleaned the bathrooms and came back to all these responses! It is really tempting to weigh daily but I think like a lot of PPs I'd get upset about fluctuations (nonsensically). It's a good point about modelling to the children - I have boys but male anorexia is on the rise so I'll make doubley sure the DCs don't see!

Never. I don't own a scale.

CottonSock · 25/05/2020 14:11

Daily. I lost a large amount of weight and now track very carefully.

missperegrinespeculiar · 25/05/2020 14:13

never, except at doctor's, but I am a consistent 10/12 (depends on brand) so don't worry

Flyingunicornsmyass · 25/05/2020 14:13

Never anymore. It was really damaging to my brain, even if I noticed (whilst trying to lose weight) that my clothes were looser and I felt better, if the scale hadn't changed it screwed me up for days. I'd much rather feel fitter and healthier than be lighter for the sake of it.

WorraLiberty · 25/05/2020 14:14

It's a good point about modelling to the children - I have boys but male anorexia is on the rise so I'll make doubley sure the DCs don't see!

Just stick them in the bathroom (the scales - not the DC) and no-one will see you weighing yourself anyway.

Plus, if a bathroom scales are a regular bit of bathroom furniture, it'll just be normal to them growing up.

Henio · 25/05/2020 14:15

I never weigh myself, I judge it by how my clothes feel usually

barberousbarbara · 25/05/2020 14:18

I've battled with an eating disorder throughout my adult life so I don't weigh myself. I go by how my clothes fit instead. For the first 3 months of the year I was weighed weekly, to calculate medication dose, and it was so stressful that I vowed to stay away from the scales.

We have scales in the house which my partner uses once a week at the moment.

Oneforthewankbank · 25/05/2020 14:20

Every day, it does ruin my day if I have put a pound on so I don't know why I do it.

My official line is that I do it daily to get a weekly average as its more accurate.

But honestly I am obsessed with being slim and its unhealthy.

I weigh first thing in the morning and don't talk about it infront of my children, make or female.

NameChange84 · 25/05/2020 14:21

Every day.

gerbo · 25/05/2020 14:25

Never, don't own scales. Well, maybe every three months at my in laws.

To be fair I don't actually care what I weigh, just try to stay fit and judge if I'm getting bigger by my clothes, then ease off the chocolate or booze.

Don't want my dd to see weight as any real part of my life, not a healthy preoccupation.

Alittleshortforaspacepooper · 25/05/2020 14:26

Every day. I don't think it's healthy but it's what I do.

cleopatrascorset · 25/05/2020 14:27

I eat healthily and weigh myself most mornings in the week. And then let it all go over the weekend! I am pretty active but love eating, so my weight creeps up if I don't monitor it.

PearPickingPorky · 25/05/2020 14:27

Once a week. Only because I'm very small and breastfeeding a newborn, so need to make sure my weight doesn't drop too much.

TheMandalorian · 25/05/2020 14:28

Usually very rarely weigh myself. I've always been naturally slim and very active. Since kids I've struggled to lose the baby belly and weight has crept up because I started cooking child friendly meals. Currently weigh myself after I've done some intensive exercise.

mistermagpie · 25/05/2020 14:31

Every few days. I'm trying to lose eight just now though (had a baby six months ago) so am tracking my weight deliberately. I've got half a stone to go and then I'll probably weigh myself every week.

2468whodoyouappreciate · 25/05/2020 14:33

Rarely. It really affects my head too much. I just end up.in a miserable.sporal beating myself up.
I'm alot happier if I don't analyse my weight.

IndiaMay · 25/05/2020 14:34

Randomly. I dont own scales but there is some at my gym I occasionally hop on. I'm quite heavy for my height/size, partly naturally as my dad is the same, partly I because I do a lot of weight exercise and have a lot of muscle mass (5ft 6inch, 10stone 3 and a size 8 on top, 10 on bottom). If i put on weight I tend to know from my clothes/how I'm feeling (like now lol lockdown is not kind) so I need to reduce food and up excersise again .

mistermagpie · 25/05/2020 14:34

Nobody bothered about having scales in the house with sons? I have sons and a daughter and have been we thought about it but I weigh myself when I'm getting in the shower so they never see me do it.

Talulahoopla · 25/05/2020 14:35

Weekly at most. I'm trying to gain weight by increasing muscle and reducing fat so eating more in a really controlled way. The process is slow and it's only realistic to gain 1/2 lb muscle per week. Body weight fluctuates far more than that between morning to night and day to day so if I saw that fluctuation in either direction it would throw me way off track! On the other hand, I've gone through the diet process and weighed far more regularly because whatever the result it kept me motivated - increase would be motivation to focus on the diet more and decrease incentive to keep going. I think whatever works for you to get you to where you need to be.

Lockdownlooks · 25/05/2020 14:40

Once a week at Weightwatchers before lockdown. More often since then and it hasn’t been very helpful. I’m getting upset by normal fluctuations but the comfort eating and getting actual weight gain.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 25/05/2020 14:45

Daily. I lost 5 1/2 stone a few years ago and I’m slap bang in the middle of my healthy weight now.

It helps keep me on track. I don’t get upset or angry about it though whatever the scale says. Because I weigh daily I know how my weight fluctuates around my periods etc and it helps make sense of it ‘Oh I’m 2lbs up but due on so that’s entirely normal.’

I eat cake and crisps etc in moderation but if I see the weight gently creeping on I know to pull back with just a couple of small modifications and it’ll come off again without having to bin all the snacks off entirely.
