Do you weigh daily (I read somewhere this helps people keep the weight off), or weekly, or less often? Or do you do measurements or go on clothes sizes? I'm currently weighing every 2 weeks or so. Just curious!

Every day. Spots the little upticks and reminds me to stay focussed on not eating like a pig

Doodlebug5 · 25/05/2020 12:42

Twice a day morning and night. I like to see the daily fluctuation

bumblingbovine49 · 25/05/2020 12:43

Daily has been the only way I have managed to maintain a 2 stone loss for over a year. I know that I put on weight when I binge and daily weighting makes.me.see.the effect within a few days when I can do something about it . Once I start to not weight myself, I start putting it off as I know the weight will be going on and I think it will be so.much effort to.lose.it that I can't face it.
It seems to work for.me.anyway

goldie04 · 25/05/2020 12:44

I weigh myself most days but I'm about 3 stone overweight and it's creeping up so definitely not making much difference in my behaviour 🤷🏽‍♀️

User527272 · 25/05/2020 12:44

Weekly.

NellePorter · 25/05/2020 12:44

Never, unless at a medical appointment. I've maintained my current dress size for the last 2 years, after a drop. Weight can fluctuate due many things such as water intake / retention, menstrual cycle, weight training.

Sally872 · 25/05/2020 12:46

@TwilightPeace I also have a dd but own scales and weigh daily because I don't care if she gets obsessed with weight Hmm

LesleysChestnutBob · 25/05/2020 12:46

I've just stopped eating cakes and chocolate and bad stuff so the weight is falling off so I'm weighing daily. Once I calm down a bit ill try to move it to weekly

adventurer2020 · 25/05/2020 12:46

@eeyoresstickhouse GrinGrinGrin

I weigh daily - old habits die hard and all that.

BigcatLittlecat · 25/05/2020 12:47

I weigh twice a day! It really helps me but I can see it wouldn't work for everyone! I did talk to a doctor about it and she said as long as it was working for me then carry on! I have lost a stone and a half doing this. I know exactly what I weigh.

MrsAvocet · 25/05/2020 12:50

Once a week and I am actively dieting at present. Any more frequently is not helpful to me.

hamsterchump · 25/05/2020 12:52

I weighed myself every day for about 20 years and was always obsessed with my weight and everything I ate, I could never really relax, the number on the scale would determine my mood and it was always at the back of my mind. I put the scales away for good about a year ago and started eating whatever I wanted but only when I'm genuinely hungry and I've never felt more free. I think I've stayed about the same weight, maybe lost 1/2 a stone (my 10-12 clothes still fit well). Wish I'd given it up years ago tbh, I don't think naturally thin people weigh themselves every day do they? I want to be like them.

Boulshired · 25/05/2020 12:52

I just don’t wear Lycra, I blame it for the whole obesity crisis and it’s expandable waist line. Never gained weight when I wore old fashioned Levi 501.

zigaziga · 25/05/2020 12:53

My scales broke a few years a go, so only now occasionally when I go swimming and spot them in the changing rooms - maybe once a year or so.

When I had working scales maybe 3 or 4 times a year?

Candyflosscookie · 25/05/2020 12:54

About once a fortnight maybe? Sometimes once a month. Just to keep an eye on it.
I know you're supposed to weigh first thing in the morning after a pee but before you eat or drink anything to get the most accurate result. I often forget and have slugged some water or a coffee before I think "oops I was going to weigh today" gives a good reason to put it off for another day Wink

Spacecudet · 25/05/2020 12:55

Don't have scales, so go by how my clothes fit normally. I sometimes weigh myself when I visit my mum, so not done that in months!

CustardySergeant · 25/05/2020 12:55

"I don’t have scales at home.
I have daughters and wouldn’t want them becoming obsessed with weight.
I go by how I feel and how my clothes fit."

My answer would be identical, except I only have one (now adult) daughter.

Idododoidadada · 25/05/2020 12:56

When I first started logging on My Fitness Pal I used to weigh myself every day.
Now I’m 2 stone down I weigh a couple of times a week.

Inextremis · 25/05/2020 12:56

Never. I quit when I realised that my day could be ruined by a small fluctuation on the scales. Now I go by whether things fit or not, and life's a lot nicer :)

Yelllow · 25/05/2020 12:58

Every morning!

Oxyiz · 25/05/2020 12:58

Daily at the moment, but only because I'm trying to lose weight and I'm curious about it. In the old days, I don't know, once in a blue moon.

I'd hope that if I had kids, I wouldn't verbalise these things or make them paranoid about the scales, but I'd try to teach them about healthy foods in a way I never learned as a child. I'm still figuring out the whole protein/carbs thing. I think you can probably go too far the other way if you never talk about it or don't have scales at all.

mizu · 25/05/2020 12:59

twilightpeace same here. Don't have scales in the house. Never have. Have 2 teen DDs.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/05/2020 13:00

I try not to weigh daily but I often do. I have an entirely screwed up and unhealthy relationship with food, weight and dieting. I weigh myself much less frequently when I am actually eating well and feel in control with food, usually if I'm successfully low carbing. I'm actually slim and I am a decent runner so I am fairly fit, toned etc. This isn't about 'fat' it's about weight and it has been drummed into me all my life that the numbers matter.

Happydaysforever123 · 25/05/2020 13:01

Everyday as I like eating but I prefer being slim. It's easier for me to cut back and lose a lb rather than put on half a stone, then I'd find it difficult.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 25/05/2020 13:02

Weekly.

It's often enough to keep an eye on trends. I could do with losing half a stone or so like a whole stone but there's no urgency. If it goes up I make adjustments. Doing it weekly means any adjustments can be small - no need for a panic diet, just eating a bit less and exercising a bit more.
