What are you classing as one lump sum? It can be paid monthly.

HugeAckmansWife · 24/05/2020 16:58

If you mean add up the monthly amount and multiply it by the years it will be owed, no, because the payee's income may change over that time if its many years so they could be paying a lot more or less than is due. You can do what you like 'unofficially' but you couldn't do that through the cms.

funinthesun19 · 24/05/2020 17:31

I’ve never heard of this happening. What if the rp spent it all at once and didn’t make
it last? Not like they’d be able to go back for more is it?

funinthesun19 · 24/05/2020 17:32

Just to be clear, I wouldn’t have sympathy for the rp if they spent it all and I don’t think the nrp should have to pay more.

EmbarrassedUser · 24/05/2020 17:35

You can pay whatever you want. The amount set by the CMS is a minimum. However, if I was an NRP, I would never pay up front as the PWC could just say it was a one off gift and you’d be landed with your normal monthly maintenance amount.

GiantPinesAhem · 24/05/2020 17:44

I wish I could get the cms minimum from my nrp, but anyway...

If you're the paying parent and you want to do it in one lump, then put it into a separate account, standing order to the other parent set up every month and it'll be as if you did pay it all at once.

Wynston · 24/05/2020 17:46

Sorry I mean pay one years worth-as per calculation in one.
Its overseen by cms.

OP posts:
GiantPinesAhem · 24/05/2020 17:47

The problem with that is that if the paying parent has a change of circumstances over the year, the amount due could change and they could have overpaid and not be able to get it back or underpaid and have to pay extra

Wynston · 24/05/2020 18:00

Willing to accept any overpayment will not be returned (no issue there as hope that any additional money would be of help.)
And as you have to inform them af any changes if more money was owed this could just be added on the existing figure and given to the parent.

CMS wouldn't enforce this but if it was a private arrangement between you and the other parent it would be fine.
