To think that Dominic Cummings DID break the rules?

The day after reportedly developing coronavirus symptoms, Dominic Cummings and his family travelled 200 miles to self isolate.

While I can understand the desire to be near family, AIBU to think they should have isolated at home?

Many families in the UK have faced situations where sticking to the rules has at best inconvenient, at worst traumatic. They have managed to do so with less of a support network and less resources at their disposal than the Cummings family.

Nope, his large vehicle would struggle to do 400 miles to a completely full tank so he couldn't have done the journey without fuelling at least before he left and once on the way back. He certainly never got 524 miles out of his landrover on one tank.

No I don't know what mileage people get out of their large vehicles usually because I have a small, zero road tax car that will do 80mpg. I don't drive about in a tank for a family of 3 or have enough children to need a people carrier, I have one child. I also don't go travelling 262 miles for childcare because I've got a mild version of a virus and can't be bothered looking after my own child 👍

Well we have had Boris rolled out to protect his friend on the daily coronavirus briefing tonight
I am beyond furious. Boris has in effect said DC has done the right thing
There will be a vote of no confidence in BJ to follow
What an absolute fool he is

2020notQuiteAsPlanned · 24/05/2020 17:32

Boris just said he can understand why people are confused.........
so b condescending.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 24/05/2020 17:39

Pisses me off that he's used school reopening as a method of distracting people from Dominic Cummings and that he's spouting all this rubbish. Absolutely dispicable!

HelsinkiLights · 24/05/2020 17:43

What does Dominic Cummings hold over Boris Johnson?
Is that why Boris is digging his heels in?

pointythings · 24/05/2020 17:44

Meanwhile Sir Michael Wilshaw floats (again) the idea of cancelling the summer holidays so students can catch up with missed work. Because those lazy teachers haven't been doing a lick of work for the past 2 months so shouldn't need any kind of summer break.

GuiltyBark · 24/05/2020 17:45

Of course he broke the rules. At 46 I think I'm going to start being a government hating anarchist, as opposed to someone whose given them in charge the benefit of the doubt.

Pokemontrainer · 24/05/2020 17:51

No way pointythings surely that can't happen. And who wants their kids to go to school in the summer - what would the point be?

I don't need them to go back over summer.

Pokemontrainer · 24/05/2020 17:52

And yes he broke the rules. As if he couldn't have used services in London to help deliver food etc while they looked after their child. Load of BS.

LumaLou · 24/05/2020 17:56

Boris Johnston’s display today was farcical and insulting. There needs to be an inquiry.

This labour lady on the bbc is saying exactly what nearly everyone will be thinking.

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/05/2020 17:58

Sarah Jones. Impressive.

Isawamagpie · 24/05/2020 17:59

Shit... i clicked YABU and i meant YANBU....

mbosnz · 24/05/2020 18:00

If I were Bozo, I wouldn't go out in the woods today. There might not be a nice surprise. I think there's an awful lot of people that would like to put their questions to Our Great Leader. (What the fuck would Churchill think? He's whipped by his BFF).

Fleamaker123 · 24/05/2020 18:41

Well I'm speechless. It's absolutely two fingers up to all the people who have stuck to the rules, gone through hell and struggled. I feel so angry for them and the sacrifices we've all made.

Big mistake. The message now will be clear to some people... why the hell did we bother, sod this, I'm off to do what the hell I want.

Extremely poor leadership.

Inkpaperstars · 25/05/2020 00:54

Don't know if anyone saw Christina Patterson on the SKy news press preview last night...she was masterful! 👏

LumaLou · 25/05/2020 16:59

What utter nonsense this afternoon. I cannot believe that travelling to Durham was their only option.

Fleamaker123 · 25/05/2020 17:56

Apparently he went to the Castle and sat by the river to test his eyes.

And it's the terrible misleading media reporting that's pissed everyone off.

JudyCoolibar · 25/05/2020 23:02

Wasn't that at a time when they were telling us that we couldn't stop for a sit-down if we went out for exercise?

JacobReesMogadishu · 26/05/2020 00:00

Ah but he felt sick remember? So understandable to sit down.

JudyCoolibar · 26/05/2020 01:04

It's so blatantly obvious that the Barnard Castle story has been made up to "fit" what the independent witness saw. Somehow I doubt we'd ever have heard anything about the trip if he hadn't been spotted.

Mumratheevergiving · 26/05/2020 01:20

He chose to travel to the other side of the country knowing his family were symptomatic with Covid19. His family visited a hospital in the North East putting health care workers and other patients in that setting at a risk they would not otherwise have encountered and he suggested he would have put a taxi driver at risk had one been available. How can people claim he has done 'no harm'?

Poor judgement & no apology, lack of understanding of the deprivations others have been through as they have followed the rules not their instincts. He said himself he doesn't regret what he's done. Should the taxpayer really be paying him! FFS Boris rules are not there to be broken. Unfortunately for you the public is not as stupid as you think and see this for the smoke & mirrors it is.

If every family followed Cummings lead and shot across the country taking the virus with us where would we be?

SquishySquirmy · 26/05/2020 09:06

He didn't KNOW he could drive there in one go. Even if he did manage it is was still a risk.

The police at the time were pulling over some cars weren't they?
What if they had been stopped by the police? Poor copper would have been exposed to CV.

Pinkblueberry · 26/05/2020 09:20

He definitely was breaking rules. Where I live the police were stopping people around that time to check people were making essential journeys. Imagine being pulled over and saying ‘we suspect we may have coronavirus and are driving from London to County Durham to drop our DS off with family...’
Would the police have happily sent them on their way?
