August holiday abroad?

CoRhona · 22/05/2020 21:04

I know no-one knows the answer to this.

But is it likely we'll be going abroad in August? We have a family holiday to Turkey booked.

I think unlikely, sadly Sad

I think it'll go ahead but with serious social distancing in place and not many places might be up.

x2boys · 22/05/2020 21:14

I'm thinking my holiday in the UK ( haven ) in August will be seriously curtailed so.I'm going to postpone, I suppose it Depends What you want I expect there will be A lot of social.distancing even in AugustSad

amusedbush · 22/05/2020 21:18

It looks like Turkey are gearing up to accept tourists - we were looking at Turkey for October as our May holiday was (obviously) cancelled and if we can’t go anywhere in October, it will probably be another year after that as DH’s holidays are allocated by his work.

MrsPinkCock · 22/05/2020 21:22

You really want to go abroad with a mandatory two week isolation period when you get back?

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 22/05/2020 21:23

We’re supposed to be going abroad by train. Last week of August. No idea if it’s going to happen or not!

CurlyEndive · 22/05/2020 21:24

It's possible OP. But not very likely.

edwinbear · 22/05/2020 21:28

Unlikely I think, and you will have to quarantine for 2 weeks when you get back.

DamnYankee · 22/05/2020 21:34

Fingers crossed! Don't get Sad yet!

amusedbush · 22/05/2020 21:36

My work has agreed to let us work from home on full pay if we need to isolate after a holiday.

crustycrab · 22/05/2020 21:41

Hope not. I'm waiting and hoping for my July holiday to be cancelled

carlywurly · 22/05/2020 21:45

We have a short break already booked. We could all quarantine here afterwards fairly easily if we needed to. If we need to do the same there we'll be scuppered.

Figgygal · 22/05/2020 21:46

But will it really be the holiday you paid for?
If social distancing and other measures constrain your Freedoms and ability to enjoy

And the 2 week isolation on return is a ball ache

mizu · 22/05/2020 22:02

We were supposed to be going to Greece 16th of July. Presumed it wasn't going to happen but think it might - have read Greece will be opening up by then - and I really don't want to go now! And can't do a 14 day quarantine period afterwards due to work commitments.

I have paid a deposit and the rest of the money is due to come out mid June. Cannot contact the company, they have sent an email back though to my question about cancellation saying if I cancel I have to pay a cancellation fee of pretty much what the holiday costs anyway. I guess I have lost £1500 if we don't go.

girlie123 · 22/05/2020 22:08

We were due to go to France end of August, but we adn tbh I can't see that happening. We have asked for a refund x

Daffodil101 · 22/05/2020 22:10

I think lots of holidays will technically go ahead, but lots of people will choose not to go.

I realise that doesn’t answer your question.

GillT333 · 22/05/2020 22:13

We don’t know how long quarantine rules will be in place.

RedSoloCup · 22/05/2020 22:17

We have this dilemma- Greece in August.

I think we'll cut our losses (flights, deposits) and leave it even if it does go ahead.

Will just be too stressful with kids to enjoy it I think.

We had a UK break booked Monday which is cancelled also 😟

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 22/05/2020 22:22

Can you get travel insurance?

Khione · 22/05/2020 22:26

Turkey are gearing up for tourists and have had few cases in the tourist area.

I'm hoping to go September or October although I will leave it until nearer the time to book.

I was just saying to a friend earlier - So long as I don't have to isolate out there which, unless there is a second peak, is unlikely then I'm off. If I had to isolate on return I'd be prepared to although it would be irritating

12stepCAKE · 22/05/2020 22:28

Good luck with social distancing in turkey... They aren't that bothered really. (Family in turkey).

12stepCAKE · 22/05/2020 22:28

They are doing 2 weeks isolation for people entering the country at the moment though.

12stepCAKE · 22/05/2020 22:30

So far they have only done a few lock downs over weekends only met with loads of protests fighting and violence towards police

CoRhona · 22/05/2020 23:54

@12stepCAKE

OMG 2 weeks isolation for people entering Turkey?! We're going for less time than that Shock

@Figgygal

No, I definitely don't think it will be the holiday we paid for. We'd chosen AI with three teens but am assuming buffets / good out won't be an option.

@PickUpAPickUpAPenguin

Yes, we have insurance but our holiday company was quite low on Martin Lewis' recent list of good travel companies, so not holding out too much hope.

Our eldest is off to uni whenever that starts so this was going to be a major family holiday :(

Another thing to remember is that if quarantine in the UK is still in place there's a (high) chance your flight might get cancelled. You might be able to quarantine at home but lots of people can't. If all those people decide to cancel their trip, the airline might decide not to fly because it's not worth flying a plane that's 90% empty.
