To ask why I’m not loosing weight with all the excercise I’m doing?!

Endorphins · 22/05/2020 10:08

So I excercise 6 days per week and eat healthy 5 days per week!

I do 3 days of weight and strength training
2 days of running, generally about 7k each time
1 day of yoga for 60 minutes

I track via MFP and generally have about between 1300 and 1500 cals per day

On the weekend I relax the cal counting but don’t binge

I am still breast feeding my 2 year old and she feeds multiple times per day and throughout the night

I weigh 9 and a half stone

It's not seen as cool by the MN masses though, is it? The OP isn't happy and there have been so many posts just telling her to accept it. Why?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 18:42

Some people may want to be that size but that is a different matter.

Well, the OP seems to want it, so it's not a 'different matter': it's the matter in hand.

Sunisshining12 · 22/05/2020 18:47

This thread is baffling! I understand being in a deficit is how to loose weight (whether that be with diet alone, or diet & exercise).

My question is how do you stick to being in a deficit. Where do you get the willpower from? I needwant. to lose a stone to get back to where I feel healthy & my ore baby weight. My issue is, I’m constantly knackered & feel like I can’t be arsed. I’ll start tomorrow. I understand the maths, eat a deficit. But its the emotions I don’t understand! Food makes me happy...

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 18:50

Food makes me happy...

It's a state of mind. Food makes me happy and cooking is my hobby, but being slim makes me happier.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 18:53

Food makes me happy...

Food makes me very happy but I also want to get on stage, go head to head with women half my age and show that your 50s and the menopause does not mean the end of everything.

wowfudge · 22/05/2020 19:01

OP maybe it would help to treat yourself to something other than food at the weekend? Reward yourself with a gift of some sort, have face mask, do your nails - something you'll enjoy that isn't food.

Delatron · 22/05/2020 19:02

It sounds like you are a healthy weight for your height? Maybe you are just focusing on the loose skin and it is affecting your perception of yourself? I know it’s tricky.

If you’re breastfeeding you do need a decent amount of calories though.

I’d move the focus away from your weight. Maybe up the cardio a bit. Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise and I find it doesn’t matter how much I run (I run 4 times a week) I don’t loose weight. But that’s not my goal at the moment.

HIIT sessions are good for building muscles and burning calories but I actually think you might need to eat more! Maybe more protein and good fats?

BIWI · 22/05/2020 19:05

Ah - so you're going down the low fat route? If it's not working for you - and it sounds like it's not, or at least you're not happy with the results you're getting - why not switch it round and go low carb/high fat? You can still keep your protein high.

Theplotisgoneawayforever · 22/05/2020 19:08

You need to find a delicious deficient so that you don't hate eating and still find joy in cooking and eating if that's something that you enjoy.

I think it's helpful to start with a blank slate and find meals you can eat instead of starting with your current diet/nutrition/routine and start hacking at it.

KimchiLaLa · 22/05/2020 19:09

How tall are you?
9 and a half stone when you're around 5'7 or 8 is v v slim, for example, and I wouldn't be looking to lose more.

Kim no, you wouldn't, but the OP would.

Duvetday8 · 22/05/2020 19:25

No it's not Kim, I weigh that and I'm a size 8. Very very slim would be a size 4.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 19:25

The OP is 5'6", used to be 8st, and is looking to lose more.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 19:25

Kim no, you wouldn't, but the OP would.

Exactly. The OP knows where she wants to be; she just needs a few tips on how to get there.

ChristmasFluff · 22/05/2020 19:50

Och, it's a pain, OP.

I cannot 'eat back' my exercise calories. I cannot go above 1000 calories and lose weight. I cannot go above 1700 and stay stable. I exercise like a demon and have an active job.

I also have an underactive thyroid, and am post-menopausal - those things probably add into it.

But the thing is, you have to find your own calorie intake that works for weight loss/maintenance.

I quite often decide it isn't worth it. So I up and down the same 2 stone. It's a total pain in the arse. I know how little food (even 'healthy' food) quickly adds up to 1,500 calories. :-(

SoftDay · 22/05/2020 19:53

NiceLegs - you look absolutely incredible!! I always like reading your posts, so it is nice to "see" you. I cannot believe you are 53!

PhoneLock, you also look amazing.

OP, it sounds like you are working hard to stay fit and healthy. I have no good advice because I am unfathomably fat and always been some variable degree of fat, but others have given great advice. Try not to be too hard on yourself; it sounds like you are kept very busy and are juggling a lot. Best of luck!

Daisydoesnt · 22/05/2020 20:03

Bloody hell this thread is bonkers! I’m about 8 1/2 stone and 5 ft6. So I’m on the lower end of healthy - but I am still a healthy weight!. I’m 50, and my weight has varied by no more than 4-5lbs my whole adult life. I have very narrow shoulders, a 30inch chest, and tiny boobs. And that’s nothing to do with being slim, I just have a small rib cage.

I feel really good, and think I look pretty good too (for my age). I’m fit too, being a runner.

I realise that other people my height can be completely different shapes. My shoulders are particularly narrow and my chest/ barrel particularly small so anyone of a broader frame would weigh more not even taking into account bum/tummy/ thighs.

I think so many people have lost track what slim looks like.

To say that someone would like ill at less than 9 stone is ridiculous!!

The OP shouldn't lose any more weight because she's already lighter than a lot of other posters and they don't like it.
And sadly there’s a lot of truth in this ^

Delatron · 22/05/2020 20:20

To be fair I’m 8stone 9 and 5tt 8 and I don’t look ill. I’ve always hovered around this weight. So I get it, if you used to be 8 stone then that is what you are used to.

It just takes time when breast feeding. I think the body stubbornly clings on to fat

CleanUpWoman · 22/05/2020 20:34

16:8 fasting! Easy to stick to and I think it really works.

Also dont agree with lots of posters insisting OP sounds fine and she doesn't need to lose weight. Thats only for her to decide!
I'm 5'4 and probably knocking 9 stone now, could definitely do with losing half a stone, I am normally around the 8.5 stone mark, sometimes a little less. I do not look 'too thin' at all at that weight.

iloveruby · 22/05/2020 20:51

@Daisydoesnt i agree that people have lost a sense of what being slim actually means / looks like.

I know this is a silly example but on Friends whenever there is a flashback to "fat Monica" I always think that she actually looks quite average Confused

mistermagpie · 22/05/2020 20:52

16:8 does work, I use that approach but nah it call it 'skipping breakfast' Grin

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 22/05/2020 21:10

@SoftDay Thank you so much. I'm working from home, live alone and haven't had proper face-to-face contact with anyone since 20 March when we were evicted from the office. Your kindness has made my weekend Blush

I'm not trying to look younger than my age — and I don't think that I do. My mission is to stop women thinking that they're 'invisible' — a phrase that I see a lot on here Sad — once they hit 50. That's why I'm putting myself right out of my comfort zone and going on stage in a sequinned bikini: because it's not exclusively a young woman's game Smile

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 21:13

Renee Zellweger put on loads of weight to play Bridget Jones, and lost it straightaway afterwards, but I thought she looked amazing in the bunny girl outfit.

Darbs76 · 22/05/2020 21:23

I’m 8st 13 but wanting to lose a stone. I’m 5ft1 and do not look like a skeleton. Everyone tells me I don’t need to lose weight, but when I go up to 9st 4 ish I’m actually in overweight category. Why shouldn’t I want to reduce it before it gets out of control? I have been finding it hard this last 6wks to lose, only lost 4lbs even though exercising a lot so burning over 2000 and eating 1200 max. Frustrating
