What are these bugs and how do I get rid of them?

So as I was going to bed last night, I noticed a few of these little bugs on the window sill in the bathroom. I wiped them up and closed the window not thinking any more or it.

This morning I seem to have a full on infestation. The are hanging around the window and the ceiling. What are they and how the hell do I get rid of them?!

Very small, but has a spider cocoon hatched up there? Dont know if cocoon is he right word btw :)

Looks gross! No idea what they are. But I recommend this bug killer spray. Amazing stuff!

You've left a window open with a light on; they are just those little bugs which are drawn to the light. Suspect they will die and you can vac them up?

I closed the window last night but there seems to be 1000s. So now I’m worried there’s a gap somewhere. They’re in the bath, even some in the toilet bowl.

I’ve hoovered them but ugh, feeling really itchy and grossed out now.

I’ve got goosebumps from that picture! Yuk! I would hoover them up (then immediately empty it!) and then squirt white vinegar on everything in sight, most bugs hate it.

We get these in our bathroom overnight if we leave the window open and light on. Literally hundreds of the wee buggers covering every surface. No idea what they are though

Can you get a closer picture? They kinda look like drain flies but I've never seen so many!

We have a small number of these in our bathroom, one or two a day. I think they're drain flies. They've reduced while I've been putting bleach down the plug holes

We had something like this in a flat once. Had to get pest control in, turned out to be the ‘beans’ inside a microwaveable back-pain heat pad. Apparently they aren’t synthetic, some are filled with a grain that can attract these bugs, and they then multiply inside. If you have one, feel it to see if it’s ‘solid’ and if so, get rid of it. We threw ours out and sprayed insect killer, and they were gone within a few days.

I have one of those heat pads. Not going to bother feeling it just throwing it away as will never get that image out of my head now. Wouldn't the heat from the microwave kill the bugs?

Not sure what those bugs are OP are they flying type bugs or spiders? If you vacuum them does it kill them or can they crawl out of the vacuum?

I think they may be spiderlings -newly hatched spiders , we had 3 groups on our fence yesterday , they mass together in a tight group that almost resembles a cocoon but if you disturb them they spread out widely really quickly , then settle back into the mass eventually .

They are flying. I got rid of most of them, but have come back to find some more again on the window sill. The ones that are on the plastic or ceramic services seem to die pretty quickly. The ones on the wooden ceiling seemed to be doing okay.

They didn’t seem to crawl out of the vacuum but I did empty it immediately. I think they might be quite delicate though. It’s hard to say for sure.

I’m going out to the shops shortly and wondering what I should pick up, but if I don’t know where the source is I think I’m going to struggle to eliminate them.

I was going to say drain flies but that most recent picture changed it mind. Hmm. I'd throw some bleach down the drains just in case tho

I’m not sure if I just missed loads the first time but I found loads on the wall so hoovered again. Washed down the sides, sink, bath, ceiling with white vinegar. Put some bleach down all the drains. So I’ll see what happens.

I would love to know what they are though!

Look a bit like fruit flies maybe ( Google a picture and compare). They come in on fruit and reproduce in 24 hours. Get a jar and fill with apple cider vinegar. Roll a piece of paper into a funnel shape and put in the jar so bottom of paper is touching the vinegar. Flies will go in but not get out. We had this last year, did the vinegar thing for a few days and left it out for a week after and problem gone. Have to persevere with it as the multiply very fast if even a few are left behind.

Hallohallohallo - only if you actually microwave it - ours was only used on occasion and so they had a good few months to accumulate before we discovered the problem!

Spider babies! I had a small nest explode on my hand last week then there were a gazillion of them...SHUDDER!!

Your second pic just updated, luckily they've not spider babies now on close up. Still shudders 😂

Could be some kind of midge? Hopefully a non-biting kind! 😬

Well I’ve been out shopping, come back and there are still some, but I think they are just the ones I missed earlier (they are very small and tricky).

Live in a 1930s house. Not well insulated. I don’t think they are fruit flies. They look different. Thinking about it, I’m sure we had them around the living room window when we first moved in.

They are driving me crazy. I’ve been googling for hours and I can’t find any reference as to what they might be!

They are just 'fruit flies', also known by other names. Quite harmless but not very pleasant.
You obviously don't have any spiders in that room, they would soon get rid of these pests.
