To get cross at the drumming for NHS clap

I put my kids to bed at 7pm.

By 8pm the massive drums come out over the road and the aim seems to be to make as much noise as possible which then disturbs the kids.

I mean it's been weeks now...

Is it just because I'm at this stage in life that I dread The Clap?

When will it officially stop? Like what’s the end point? End of lockdown? Once a virus is found?

Pretty sure we've already found the virus.

Just saying... Wink

TabbyMumz · 22/05/2020 20:48

The lady who started it said it would be nice for next thursday to be the last one, as it's the 10th week of clapping.

CovidicusRex · 22/05/2020 20:59

Well I guess we all know which posters live in labour safe seats now. We’re quite lucky in that people where we live seem to have common sense and mostly stuck to putting up posters in windows and making donations.

we are a small street on top of a mountain surrounded by mountains so nothing in front, behind or around us.the next street is a 10 minute walk down the massive hill so sound travels

we are not clappers as disabled kids cant cope with the noise so we have to shut every thing up and turn the telly up loud as it will cause distress and a possible meltdown

neighbors know of the kids conditions and they have been very understanding the last 7 years we have lived here(youngest is only 9,oldest 15) but do they give a shit every bloody Thursday?hell no we have had from week 1 those hooters you use at football matches(the women is 92 whos using it) trumpets.saucepan banging shouting, loud clapping fire works last week, bloody tina tuner ever week played loudly with people dancing like goons

every bloody week its causes them distress and not once have it been a quiet week
we cant even go for a drive away from it all as its every bloody street

a few weeks ago i even had words with the old fella a few doors up on his sarky comments the next day about im the only house that dont come out,i had oh we didnt see you last night ,he was told plainly you know the kids disabilities and the noise inside is causing stress im not taking them to the bloody door for it to be louder ,do fuck off

dont bloody mention ve day.not one house followed any rules it was a party in the road blocking all cars with their tables for hours with loud music a bbq and fire works at midnight

granted we were invited

i cant wait for this to be bloody over, are people still going to persist when lock down is lifted?as even if we are all let out the virus aint going away so the nhs will still be treating patients

ILikeSardines · 23/05/2020 01:02

I live in a v Tory area and everyone is at it here!

I believe Boris Johnson is a member of the conservative party and he's out clapping every week!

As for donating, hmmm. They've be defunding the NHS for years!

What a silly post Grin

Dumbie · 23/05/2020 08:10

@clarepetal please just keep it to clapping. Please

The purposeful waking of my baby every week is the last thing I need on top trying to manage this shit situation. 8pm is the hour I get to myself before I start work again (wfh).

Just keep it to clapping. Please

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/05/2020 09:21

@clarepetal the thing is that more and more NHS staff are coming out and saying, actually, they've had enough of it. They find it patronising, or they don't like what it's turned into, or the Govt is using it to distract from the lack of PPE and funding. It disturbs NHS shift workers trying to catch up on sleep, or trying to WFH, or trying to settle their young DC to sleep, or just trying to unwind after a long shitty day without having their dog or cat disturbed by fireworks, pot banging and horn blowing.

The upshot is - you're not doing it for the NHS, don't kid yourself. You're doing it for you, which is absolutely fine. But you can get exactly the same warm fuzzy feeling from just clapping.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/05/2020 09:26

Btw if you'd like to do something that actually makes a difference, here is a link to a Croudfunding appeal to provide PPE to protect healthcare workers.
