To get cross at the drumming for NHS clap

I put my kids to bed at 7pm.

By 8pm the massive drums come out over the road and the aim seems to be to make as much noise as possible which then disturbs the kids.

I mean it's been weeks now...

Is it just because I'm at this stage in life that I dread The Clap?

@x2boys Ahh the weekly passive aggresive moan about people moaning about the weekly clap 🙃.

CobblersPose · 21/05/2020 20:57

A lady with a drum and a stick walked down the middle of our road yelling "clap clap come on!"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/05/2020 21:02

Every week there's a firework "Boom" and my poor cats get the shit scared out of them and leg it under the sofa.

You would think though that they'd fathom "Oh Thursday , 8pm"
They know breakfast and Supper time to the second . It's surely not beyond them Wink

EatDessertFirst · 21/05/2020 21:06

WHY are people setting off fucking fireworks when it isn't even dark??! I wonder how many of these seals went to the beaches and shit in the sand this week? Give the clapping a rest now.

Just what I was thinking

We have a woman in the street who sings. Microphone, backing track turned up. Loads of shouting and screaming. Does my head in. I put my kids to bed at 7.30. This music thing goes on and on. In fact, it is ten past 9 and it's still going on. All our windows are closed. Makes me laugh cos they are out under the pretense of supporting carers and nhs (both myself and partner are support workers and neighbours know this) and none of them social distance, etc.

MintyChapstick · 21/05/2020 21:08

Funny isn't it OP, that the world doesn't revolve around you and your kids?

Fireworks tonight pots shouting and screaming as usual

Today an added extra, people are having unofficial street parties after. Tables and chairs out front, wandering around chatting etc

Bubbletrouble43 · 21/05/2020 21:12

@slapmyarseandcallmemary amazing name BTW!! We have one of those in our village. Bet there's one in every town

coffeeandjuice · 21/05/2020 21:13

No @mintychapstick it revolves around respect and common decency.

What started out as a clap is turning into a full on street festival.

Its five minutes. Just ignore it if it bothers you so much.

LST · 21/05/2020 21:32

@minty if you bothered reading the thread you would see that it wasnt just 5 minutes. And people with kids and pets bothered by it cannot just ignore it

myself2020 · 21/05/2020 21:34

5 minutes? i wish! leaning on car horns, pots and pans, screaming and drumming for 30 minutes. And fireworks

AnnaBegins · 21/05/2020 21:35

Yup the sodding virtue signalling does my head in. Neighbours came to bang their saucepans directly under my baby's window tonight because our house is more visible than theirs. Thought they were reasonable people but clearly not.

Rockbird · 21/05/2020 21:35

Clapping dying down a bit here thank God but still the football horns and saucepan banging.

FTMF30 · 21/05/2020 21:36

@mintychapstick I get the feeling you're partial to a bit of neighbourhood karaoke and pot banging.

Vedaisawesome · 21/05/2020 21:43

Several weeks ago our town mayor actually asked people not to make noises like pot banging, horns and fireworks as it was disturbing children and shift workers who may be asleep. Made not a joy of difference. Now some streets are onto the karaoke/ singing. Next door neighbour has brought out a massive bell past two weeks. That was it for me. I've given up clapping. It just ridiculous now! Of course I'll have to answer to the neighbour zealot for my failure!

DownADirtRoad · 21/05/2020 21:46

Exactly. I really wouldn’t care if it was 5 minutes. It’s an hour here of singing with speakers and the fireworks. And then hours calming my dogs down from the fireworks. Sad I’m just waiting for the neighbours to moan about my dogs barking and crying because they were scared of their fireworks.

Wfhwith3yearold · 21/05/2020 21:47

In my street the people that were out today are the people that aren't sticking to the restrictions. I've seen visitors car a lot this week.

Hypocrites.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 21/05/2020 22:01

@Bubbletrouble43 thank you 😁 aw I'll bet there is!! 🙄

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/05/2020 22:02

When will it officially stop? Like what’s the end point? End of lockdown? Once a virus is found?

When the weather intervenes. If it’s absolutely pissing it down at 8pm one Thursday evening, most people will stay inside and it will look like an embarrassing non-event on the telly so it will be quietly dropped the following week.
