To get cross at the drumming for NHS clap

coffeeandjuice · 21/05/2020 20:23

I put my kids to bed at 7pm.

By 8pm the massive drums come out over the road and the aim seems to be to make as much noise as possible which then disturbs the kids.

I mean it's been weeks now...

Is it just because I'm at this stage in life that I dread The Clap?

I thought it was dying down last week but we had it all tonight. Clapping, pots and pans, fireworks and car horns. Closely followed by sirens (hopefully nobody got hurt by fireworks).
I got my cat in early, she s a rescue and nervous of sudden noises.

Chig · 21/05/2020 22:33

It’s still going on in full force here, saucepans banging, trumpet playing.

I have never done it. I don’t care what the neighbours think.

Whenwillthisbeover · 21/05/2020 22:39

@rosehip10 @lst well it’s only a minute here, no fireworks either. By the time you’ve got outside it’s almost over. 30 minutes Rosehip, really? It’s not even 30 minutes outside the city hospitals. ,

We must be a miserable bunch up here. or have better things to do on a Thursday evening.

Dumbie · 21/05/2020 22:42

Around here there is an actual competition. Who can be the loudest and a discussion on who 'won' that week. Guitars, drum kits, cars driving through the street, pots and pans.

I wish it was just clapping. It won't wake the baby!

😳🤣

slipperywhensparticus · 21/05/2020 23:00

The loudest ones are the ones who stockpiled tons of stuff and had family round they are also in the shielding category Hmm

Alarae · 21/05/2020 23:05

I don't mind the clapping, it's the bloody cowbell and the neighbour next door who uses his car horn which wakes my baby up.

Saucepans are just about tolerable...

MrsandMrsonedaysoon · 21/05/2020 23:53

I’m not NHS but I’m a care worker and whilst I appreciate the the reasoning behind the clap. I’m on nights tonight so I wanted a couple hours nap before I started work as it helped me get through the night. I literally woke up to my neighbours and children clapping and banging, whistling and I was so angry as it went on and on. What’s worse is they know I work in care. I completely understand everyone wanting to support the nhs I do too but I know I need to stay awake untill the morning. So it’s not just a case of it being a minute once a week.

MadameMarie · 22/05/2020 06:47

It really annoys me now. I don't know how people have the nerve after the general public have spent the week at the seaside

MarginalGain · 22/05/2020 06:54

It's tedious, it always has been.

I hadn't thought of how Johnson might wind it all down - I can imagine his detractors making quite a lot of his first no-clap Thursday. Grin

GoodbyeRosie · 22/05/2020 06:58

It's selfish virtue signaling and it needs to stop.

Even more embarrassing when you see most of the country has abandoned lockdown because it's sunny.

Seeleyboo · 22/05/2020 07:09

The ones who clap near me are the hypocrites who have people over every day and even hug each other after the clapping. Confused

Aretheystillasleepbob · 22/05/2020 07:26

Let your kids stay up for it and put them to bed after if it’s really disturbing them so much?
Send a note round on the street WA grp or however you’re all communicating to ask that people just clap?
It’s 5-10 mins once a week, and for many people the only time they see their neighbours.

Clockworkprincess · 22/05/2020 07:27

We live in a small close. We have our minute of clapping which is reasonable volume if ds was in bed he wouldn't be affected but he's not as he wants to clap for his auntie 😂. Afterwards i think there i five minutes of socially distant catching up, and everyone is back in by ten past. We can hear fireworks in the distance but nothing too intrusive

bulletjournalbilly · 22/05/2020 07:28

I wish it would stop. NHS workers are back to their normal jobs so WTF are people clapping for?!?

redcarbluecar · 22/05/2020 07:32

Clapping is ok, but I don’t understand why people are banging pots, blaring horns etc when so many people have pointed out that this disturbs children going to bed, shift workers trying to sleep etc. The motivation clearly isn’t caring about other people, so what is it??

puppypuppypuppypuppy · 22/05/2020 07:33

There's fireworks here which every week disturb my 3yo as he's falling asleep and upset him.

TabbyMumz · 22/05/2020 07:37

It's not dignified applause for the NHS anymore...its loud bullying neighbours bullying the rest of the street.

BruceAndNosh · 22/05/2020 07:39

Someone on my Facebook feed posted a picture if concert sized loudspeakers being erected in a front garden in her road

derxa · 22/05/2020 07:52

Well I go out and clap for the NHS as do a lot of people in our little town.
I've got a lot to thank the NHS for. They saved my DH's life last year and I'm about to have treatment for BC. OP I'm sure your DC will survive a later bed time. Your post has actually made me feel quite angry. I'm sure Kate Garraway doesn't agree with you.

redcarbluecar · 22/05/2020 07:55

I think the post is about excessive noise rather than just clapping.

12stepCAKE · 22/05/2020 07:55

I forgot about it until I saw everyone outside and had just got the baby to sleep ... Everyone looking around to see who's out so quickly opened a Windows showed my face clapped and shut it again. Not sure why really but can't be arsed with the comments if we dont

LellyMcKelly · 22/05/2020 07:56

Someone round here had their 14 year old kid’s 3 piece band - socially distant but with amps, speakers, etc. performing some of their own original tracks.

Destroyedpeople · 22/05/2020 07:59

Thank fuck it's relatively quiet here. I sit in the window and the pension ers in the bungalows opposite shuffle out and have a little clap. Fewer every week. Either they are dying off or getting bored if it one or the other.
Nobody from my block does it.
