How do those in Scotland feel about the plan for Scottish schools to return on 11th Aug part-time only?

We’ve been told that the scheduled term dates for next year will remain as planned. This means that my DD who is going into her higher year will go back on 26th August. That’s having not been at school since 20th March and having missed all her exams (and with on average only 5 hours a week face to face teaching time since then).

I am pissed off to say the least. That’s an Edinburgh independent school which only sent out a digital learning survey after the FMs statement without any further direction as to how they were going to pull a plan together for “blended learning”🤨 But they were quick enough to mention we wouldn’t be going back on 11th.

@cocopops the guidance will only apply to state schools. Independent schools set their own terms - many follow the English model

I know the guidance only applies to state schools- I read it and that bit is clear. That’s my issue. Our School’s email read as if it would apply to our school too when in effect they should bloody get on with it and decide what is best for their own pupils and ignore Sturgeon’s crap.

Maybe your school believes that following that advice IS what is best for their own pupils?

My little boy is due to start P1 in August. I’ve no idea how we are supposed to both work full time with one child only in school part time, with presumably no breakfast/after school clubs or other childcare options. Nursery my 2yo is at have said they may only be able to take kids part time as well, so even if I’m still furloughed I’ll be expected to do whatever remote learning is set with a toddler running around as well. Both our employers have been great so far but if this is going to be a long term thing I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep my job.

Indeed Loopyremlin- that very well may be the case. As a parent, I don’t agree that not getting senior pupils who can socially distance and understand the reasons for it, back to school, when their education has already been completely decimated, earlier than scheduled term dates which were set long long before this pandemic, is the correct approach.

And that sentence is so long, perhaps I myself need to go back to school too to get some guidance on brevity😳
