Aldi no packing rule

I always shop in Aldi. Got to the till. Well prepared. Have my bags organised ready to throw in my shopping quick as I can. Cashier told me policy is to put shopping into trolley and pack at benches. I don't get what the difference is if I put my shopping next to my bags in my trolley or straight in the bags already open in trolley. I usually chuck stuff in racing the cashier then organise stuff at benches. I just don't get the point and who it benefits. Surely most people who shop in Aldi know the drill.

YANBU. I always pack at the till and easily keep up with the pace!

They have plastic shields up. Only way round that would be for them to put it in trolley while you move away.

Its easier for them to say everyone packs at the benches (or at the car, much easier imo) than having to decide who will be packed by the time everything is scanned and who can't. Maybe its time for an Aldi license where you prove you can pack efficiently and then get issued one

I've just started packing at the car. Saves me taking my bags in too.

I've always packed at the till up to the point where I am falling behind in which case I put the things all on the top and sort them at the shelf. I always pick a check out with a queue so I can load the belt in the right order with the crushable items at the end!

It's to minimise time spent at the checkout and to keep people moving through the store rather than stalled in one place where there could then be a build up of customers.

The cashier doesn't know whether or not you're fast at packing, she'll have just been told that people have to pack at the benches not at the till and to remind customers of this.

I always feel like shouting "YES!" and pumping my arms in the air when I keep up. I'm out of practice now unfortunately

I use a massive Ikea bag which is the same size as the trolley, it's all the same whether I chuck it into the bag inside the trolley or directly into the trolley - any refinements are made at the putting it in the boot stage.

I have those large trolley bags, 4 linked together, that I place veg in one, dry goods in another etc. So they get put onto the conveyor belt in the right order and then I pack them in the same order at the till.
The assistant hasn't said anything to me, partly because I suppose I'm just placing everything back in the trolley?
No packing at the counter for me!

This is why I like the hand held scanners in Sainsbury’s where you scan and pack as you go. Now that you have to wait for the person in front of you to completely leave the checkout before you can start putting your items onto the belt it’s quite stressful when you’ve got a full trolley to unload to then have to dash to the other end to start packing what they’ve already scanned.
I do miss how little I used to spend in Aldi though

I use a couple of Ikea bags, one for chilled/frozen and then one for everything else. Never been a problem as I easily keep up with the items being thrown in my general direction. Since lockdown I've been told that I can't have the Ikea bags in the trolley and have to pack at the counter, I didn't argue because it's not the sales assistant who is making the rules but I did think it was a bit pointless when it wouldn't have made any difference to the time it took me.

I’d say you just got a cashier that was either feeling particularly jobsworthy at that time, or they’ve been pulled up about not being quick enough themselves. It literally make no difference whether you put your shopping in the trolley or an open bag in the trolly. What did you do in the end?

We normally pack at the till but the new policy at our Aldi is pack at your car as too many people were getting close together

My Aldi is now asking people NOT to pack at the shelf, if possible, but pack into the car directly.

Wonder if it's different in each store? Went to a different Aldi last week and they didn't have any policy

It's cheaper for a reason lack of service and quality. I much prefer going to tesco, asda and Morrisons not it a rushed to put my items in the trolley. I can bag them at great till.

i think too many people faff about their packing at a till, do your careful packing in your car.
i don't drive so my shop goes back into the trolley cartand i packit outside into my 'pensioner trolley' [thanks for that ds 4 ], carrier bags and can take as long as i need as everything is under a huge canopy and i'm able to keep social distance from others as much as i need.

I just dont rate some of the food, they throw items at you. I'm aware they want to scan as many items as quickly as possible and to me that's poor customer service. I much prefer going to the supermarkets where instated in my pp.

allsorts thankfully we have so much freedom of choice in this country.

Yes. I heard this for the first time ever when I went last week. I’ve been going every week for years. Got served by someone different and she told me.
I’ve got arthritis and It’s painful to do it twice. I’m not a slow packer, so I really don’t think it saves that much interaction time.
