To really hate the phrase "I can't even"

You can't even what???? It's not a full sentence. It doesn't make sense. It looks/sounds ridiculous coming from anyone over the age of 16. And it makes me feel a bit stabby. Anyone else feel the same?

I think part of the joke is that they can’t even finish the sentence Wink. That’s how much they can’t even.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 21:40

Teenage girls on seeing any picture of Paul Mescal currently. Grin

Thedogscollar · 20/05/2020 22:00

No I agree it sounds very juvenile. On the other hand I have never really heard the phrase " it makes me feel a bit stabby" and throughout the past few weeks it sums up how I've felt about quite a few thingsGrin

"It looks/sounds ridiculous coming from anyone over the age of 16. And it makes me feel a bit stabby"

Good to see irony isn't dead on this thread

helloPig · 20/05/2020 22:21

stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.

WelcomeToGreenvale · 20/05/2020 22:42

As Grandpa Simpson once said, "I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you!"

Colom · 20/05/2020 23:10

Haha haven't seen the Simpson's in years yet I remember that so clearly Grin

theneighbourswindchime · 20/05/2020 23:25

@hellopig ha ha ha!!!!

Candyfloss99 · 20/05/2020 23:26

I'd rather have it than "it makes me feel stabby".

mapsie · 20/05/2020 23:26

stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen.

Fetch has already happened & is now just a memory

purpleme12 · 20/05/2020 23:27

I've never heard this before

But it makes me think about when people say 'kin hell'. Just say fucking hell!

mapsie · 20/05/2020 23:28

@gindaddyredux 🤣🤣

Disquieted1 · 20/05/2020 23:30

Like yeah, whatever.

Grandmi · 20/05/2020 23:30

I must be really old ...I haven’t ever heard this expression!!

mapsie · 20/05/2020 23:31

Tbh I don't mind it, not heard it for a few yrs though.

For those who don't know it

""I Can't Even"is an Internet slang expression used to indicate that the speaker is in a state of speechlessness, either as a result of feeling overjoyed or exasperated, depending on the context in which it is said. Due to its incomplete sentence structure, the adverb "even" in the expression can be interpreted as a substitute verb for "manage." On Tumblr, the phrase is often used to caption reaction images in which the subject collapses in frustration or bewilderment."

Iooselipssinkships · 20/05/2020 23:40

Stabby???? I can't even

DamnYankee · 20/05/2020 23:56

It's silly.

Never. And reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite movies (GenX) Reality Bites.

"Wellll, I know it when I see it."
