To say there is no need to wear a mask in a forest at 6pm?

I have suggested going somewhere different for a walk one evening someone like the local forest. I suggested evening as it is likely to be much quieter. DH has said he will go if we can wear masks.
We don't wear them for our daily walks or when we go for a jog so why at 6pm in a quiet forest? AIBU?

Somewhere not someone!

Your DH is barmy! 🤣

FOJN · 20/05/2020 20:32

Has he given a reason for wanting to take that precaution? Seems a bit unnecessary.

ScarfLadysBag · 20/05/2020 20:34

Why is the forest different from where you've been going daily? If he's not been wearing a mask for your other walks then it seems v odd. Does he think it'll be rammed? Confused

We go to the forest daily for walks and it's easy to stay a safe distance from people. I've not seen anyone wearing a mask (nor would I want to).

AdoptAdaptImprove · 20/05/2020 20:34

Do you have to drive to get there, and potentially park next to another car? If so, you will might find it hard to keep sufficient distance from people getting in and out if adjacent cars?

AriadnesFilament · 20/05/2020 20:34

Is he thinking he’ll be tempted to lick the (presumably infected) trees?

ChilliCheese123 · 20/05/2020 20:35

Christ there’s absolutely no need

I actually think some people like wearing them because they think they look ‘cool’

GarlicSoup · 20/05/2020 20:36

Unless you're dogging of course Grin

Katinski · 20/05/2020 20:37

Midges! They get in your mouth, up your nose....bastard things.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 20/05/2020 20:39

Maybe he is planning on mugging someone on a secluded woodland path?

Otherwise, probably unnecessary.

Glowcat · 20/05/2020 20:40

It’s a hot day. Maybe he meant just wearing masks and he was planning to fashion his mask into a jock strap?

Teacher12345 · 20/05/2020 20:44

Love the suggestions but no he just wants to wear the masks in case we cannot social distance. I have specifically suggested evening to avoid congestion!

BlueJava · 20/05/2020 20:46

Why cant he just wear one if he wants to?

ScarfLadysBag · 20/05/2020 20:50

I think the issue is he wants them both to wear them?

oblada · 20/05/2020 20:52

Face masks are mainly protecting others from the wearer not the other way round (I mean basic face masks not what is provided to staff in the NHS). So yes it seems pointless

DamnYankee · 20/05/2020 20:53

Let him wear one. I think he's being silly, though.

PestymcPestFace · 20/05/2020 20:53

Could he pop a couple in his pocket, just in case you actually meet someone else.

I'm all for masks, where appropriate.

Nicknacky · 20/05/2020 20:54

Is he overly anxious?

recycledteenager24 · 20/05/2020 20:56

it's an excuse for him not to go if he can't wear one or he's trying to make a point ofsome sort, how busy can a forest be at 6pm unless 1000's of people suddenly appear from nowhere ?
not even sure why some people even wear them when they aren't worn properly, ie under nose or just on the chin Confused

RoseAndRose · 20/05/2020 20:56

As long as you are sure you are not going to exhale hard in a way that forms a fomite

Remember that masks protect the world from you, not the other way round.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 20/05/2020 20:56

Tell him to climb a tree if someone gets too close Grin

DamnYankee · 20/05/2020 20:56

He enjoys virtue-signaling or worried about judgment?

Maybe he meant just wearing masks and he was planning to fashion his mask into a jock strap? Lol!

Maybe a little Adam-and-Eve role play? Blush

cologne4711 · 20/05/2020 20:57

Am I missing something with the "social distancing cars" thing? Surely you just wait until the person next to you has got in or out? If one of you has your door open the other one can't open theirs anyway.

Anyway OP, if you go for other walks/runs without masks I am not sure why you'd need one for a walk in the woods in the evening.

You don't need masks outside. I just wear one when I go into the supermarket.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 20/05/2020 20:58

Almost certainly unnecessary but if it’s an area you haven’t been to lately then taking a pair of masks with you just in case the carpark is unexpectedly rammed isn’t the worst idea in the world.

recycledteenager24 · 20/05/2020 20:58

no way would i wear a mask, the thought scares me as i have a phobia to my face being covered and possibly struggling to breathe properly.
