Seadide stupidly busy

I live in a seaside resort (Slegness) and today it is absolutely heaving with people. I understand new guidelines say you can drive and enjoy the beach etc for the day but people are really taking the Mickey!

The beach has human excrement on it, the queues for supermarkets are worse as people are queing hoping they can use the toilet and one person even knocked on a residents door and asked if his pregnant girlfriend could use the toilet. Upon being told no he told the homeowner they were out of order as she was pregnant and they'd drove from Essex.

I keep seeing threads where people that live by the sea etc are being slated for not welcoming visitors but the reality is due to the amount of people flocking to the coast we can't safely enjoy our own hometown, the streets are far to narrow to be able to stay 2m away from people with the influx of visitors. If any local dares to comment we are immediately hit with the "you wouldn't have jobs if it wasnt for us". Neither my own or any of my families jobs are tourist reliant and amazingly we manage to keep our economy going well enough during the winter months.

I understand people want a bit of normality and it's really hard on children but surely you should respect the place you visit and as people that live here all year round we should be able to safely enjoy our own hometown.

Did I miss the announcement which said that everyone must go to the beach?
The information advert I saw today said ‘stay at home as much as possible’. Is that phase getting misinterpreted as ‘go to the beach’?

A cynical person might think that this is a plan to get the infection rate up so Johnson doesn’t have to open the schools and can blame it on the public rather than looking foolish.

Tellmetruth4 · 20/05/2020 23:20

Why would anybody drive past the beaches in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk to go to Skegness? They were lying about being from Essex, they just said that to guilt people into letting them use their loo.

I am usually very pragmatic and don't look for conspiracy theories, but I am almost at the point of thinking you might be right. It's extraordinary.

ToffeeYoghurt · 20/05/2020 23:24

It would be interesting to know the split of Local Vs Outsider on the beaches.
I bet the vast majority (including the Shitters) were locals. I wonder how long it took the journalists to trawl the beaches, fighting their way through the Swarms and the Hordes trying to find a Non Local.

ITonyah · 20/05/2020 23:25

Yes lots of locals I'm sure. But they wouldn't have been the ones shitting on the beaches.

EllaPaella · 20/05/2020 23:27

Coronavirus will be the least of our worries if these mingers all decide it's okay to start shitting wherever they feel like just because 'it's biodegradable'.

EllaPaella · 20/05/2020 23:28

Local or not. But if you live within a 15 minute walk of the beach it's unlikely you'd feel compelled to take a shit on the beach because you'd just walk home to use the toilet.

ToffeeYoghurt · 20/05/2020 23:28

Why not?
I often need a wee half hour after leaving the house. That's just how I am. Unless they're very local, like living 5 minutes walk away, it's perfectly plausible.
I suspect the shit is mainly young children. Local or not. Who sometimes find it harder than adults to hold on.

OneandTwenty · 20/05/2020 23:28

Now they have been told by their PM that it is ok to visit a beach or beauty spot, so that's what they're doing.

shame they are too dim to understand that no public facilities means the area is completely unsuitable and they are not welcome there. But hey, can't argue with idiots, can you.
How would you feel if someone was coming and using your front garden as a rest room?

I do feel sorry for the locals.

AgeLikeWine · 20/05/2020 23:29

There’s no cure for stupidity.

Oh yes there is. It’s called COVID-19.

OneandTwenty · 20/05/2020 23:30

I suspect the shit is mainly young children. Local or not. Who sometimes find it harder than adults to hold on.

if parents of young children can't even take a travel potty like any normal human being, you have to despair of the level of stupidity. Being an idiot is never an excuse to be antisocial.

ToffeeYoghurt · 20/05/2020 23:32

Oh ok. So now you have to live within a 15 minute walk of the beach? Guess that excludes many locals then. If by local you mean the same village or town. Oh dear. Perhaps better leave the beach to the fish after all. They're the only real locals. And any other wildlife that lives there.

ClientQ · 20/05/2020 23:32

I just want a face to face conversation, a hug and to be able to go to the supermarket again Sad
Still, staying safe inside I guess!

EllaPaella · 20/05/2020 23:33

Haha they're all coming out on this thread, those who think it's acceptable to let their young kids shit on the beach just because they can't hold it. How disgusting- maybe don't go to the beach if the toilets are shut? Or put them in a nappy if they aren't toilet trained? It's not hard.
Toffee yoghurt I was referring to people needing the toilet. I couldn't care less who comes to the beach as long as they don't think it's acceptable to shit on it.

ToffeeYoghurt · 20/05/2020 23:34

Well yes. The parents should take travel potties.

But, unless the shit has been DNA tested, it's impossible to know if it's local shit or not.

Macca84 · 20/05/2020 23:34

@vanillandhoney people KNOW they have a right to go to these places. They don't just THINK they do.

I live in a beauty spot too, and I don't like it but i know its the government's fault because they set out the requirements and I'm not so ignorant as to take it out on the abiding visitors.

@gindaddyredux - what exactly should the OP do? Call her good friend, Boris?

Alsohuman · 20/05/2020 23:40

You would think that when the councils heard the announcement from Boris TEN DAYS AGO (ten days!) that they might have put plans in place to open car parks, toilets and other facilities in beauty spots

This. Councils are totally irresponsible.

ITonyah · 20/05/2020 23:40

I live 30 mins away from a beach. In easier times we go and swim and bbq and spend 3 or 4 hours there. I have never needed a shit.

CoachBombay · 20/05/2020 23:48

I've lived by the coast my entire life, I am 10minutes from the beach.

I have never to my knowledge and living memory taken a shit on the beach.

Cornishclio · 20/05/2020 23:54

This was inevitable this would happen because there are simply too many stupid people who do not think things through. I would like to walk the coast path as I often have pre corona. I don't because there are no facilities open, few car parks and the path is narrow so social distancing difficult if lots of others decide to do the same. Have some sense people

Inkpaperstars · 20/05/2020 23:57

Prime minister- and I can tell the British people you may now travel to beauty spots for socially distanced exercise

British people - go to Skegness and shit on the beach

Grin
ToffeeYoghurt · 21/05/2020 00:00

Do fish really eat shit?

I'll stick to chips without the fish when I next go to the chippy.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/05/2020 00:08

It’s not irresponsible of the local councils to shut the toilets, it’s irresponsible of people to go to the sodding beach.
Other than closing car parks and other facilities what else can the council do to stop people going to the beach. The message is still to stay at home as much as possible but people hear what they want to hear.

I’ve lived in a number of seaside towns and I rarely went to the beach, let alone felt the need to shit there.
