Tea bags do not go in the sink!

RoomOnOurBroom · 20/05/2020 11:45

I've just cleaned the sink. DH has just made us both a cup of tea but left the tea bags in the sink. Why would anyone do this?! It gives me the rage. We have a pot on the side for used tea bags because it's a faff opening the compost bin just for 1 tea bag. It's right next to the kettle and the sink.

DH just huffed when I asked him not to leave the tea bags in the sink. AIBU?

I don’t like doing it but we put ours in the sink. I don’t know why I do it if I don’t like it Grin

SerenDippitty · 20/05/2020 11:46

YANBU. We also have a pot by the side of the kettle for tea bags.

doughnutmuffin · 20/05/2020 11:47

Grr I hate it too, why put it in the sink to then have to transfer it to the bin! Just an unnecessary extra step

I'm particularly put out because I had just cleared all the crap from breakfast that no one else has cleared up/put away (looking at you DH).

People at my work do this! Grim behaviour.
Shared office kitchens obviously have various problems but this one is so unnecessary and easily solved! YANBU.

moveandmove · 20/05/2020 11:56

I've never put them in the sink. We have a small bowl next to the kettle for them.

RoomOnOurBroom · 20/05/2020 11:59

But why? Why do people do it? Is it laziness? How do they think it is going to get into the bin? Who do they think is going to clean the sink after?

Frazzlerock · 20/05/2020 11:59

I don't get it, but I'm not a tea drinker.
I don't know why you can't just put straight in the bin, or compost bin if its one of the compostable ones
If I make someone a cup of tea, I just put it in the bin Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2020 12:00

YANBU, teabags stain the sink. Our pedal bin is right next to where we make drinks, it's no easier to put the bag in the sink yet DH does this. He manages to empty the Aeropress straight into the bin.Confused

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 20/05/2020 12:01

Grrrr - dh does this - despite the fact that I purposely put the caddy right next to the sink

Never really noticed before but as we are both wfh now it really grates

Angel2702 · 20/05/2020 12:02

We don’t drink tea but it really annoys me, it stains the sink and looks revolting. Just put it in the bin or compost as you would with any other rubbish to be disposed of.

Cocacola12 · 20/05/2020 12:03

Ah my mil does this and it annoys me so much 😂 we have our food waste bin right next to the sink as well 🙈

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2020 12:06

Maybe those of you who have caddies should try putting it in the sink and see what happens.Grin

CovidicusRex · 20/05/2020 12:10

Yes! This is something I just don’t get! And generally people who only half do things. I know someone who leaves rubbish next to the sink instead of throwing it in the bin? Just why?!!!

EmpressJewel · 20/05/2020 12:13

Agree. Some people have little bowls or plates (often shaped like teapots) for used teabags.

Never understood those either.

MrsIronfoundersson · 20/05/2020 12:18

Those little bowls or plates let the teabag cool down before you put it in the food waste bin, so it doesn't steam up the inside of the caddy.

avroroad · 20/05/2020 12:18

I put them in the bin. Why do people collect used tea bags in their sinks or a little dish beside the kettle?

avroroad · 20/05/2020 12:19

Cross posted there.

Why does it matter if there is steam inside the caddy? I presume that's just a tub of sorts for waste food?

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/05/2020 12:20

My dd does this and it annoys me, the recycling bin is right next to the sink and kettle.

Frlrlrubert · 20/05/2020 12:20

I think some people don't put them straight in the bin because it makes the bin 'sweaty' with condensation.

It's my husband's pet hate and if anyone does it he shouts 'oh no, the teabags have got lost on the way to the bin' or 'argh! The teabags have escaped' to make his point.

RoomOnOurBroom · 20/05/2020 12:23

We have a pot because we drink a lot of tea and our caddy is under the sink, so you need to open a door and then lift the lid up while balancing a tea bag on the spoon. I introduced the pot to avoid the sink scenario and tea dribbles across the floor.

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/05/2020 12:23

We use the sink.

Putting them straight in the food caddy speeds up it's decomposition, makes it soggy.

They sit in the sink, get squished together, used to clean the sink, they also help stop bits heading for the drain, them they get squeezed dry and dropped into the caddy.

GladAllOver · 20/05/2020 12:30

Tea bags are disgusting and ruin the taste of the tea.
I use leaves in a teapot (for two or more) or an infuser (for one). Used leaves are washed down the sink.

Marshmallow91 · 20/05/2020 12:30

I use one of those silicone spoon holders to put used teabags in... My partner still puts it in the bloody sink!
