Tea bags do not go in the sink!

RoomOnOurBroom · 20/05/2020 11:45

I've just cleaned the sink. DH has just made us both a cup of tea but left the tea bags in the sink. Why would anyone do this?! It gives me the rage. We have a pot on the side for used tea bags because it's a faff opening the compost bin just for 1 tea bag. It's right next to the kettle and the sink.

DH just huffed when I asked him not to leave the tea bags in the sink. AIBU?

Those little bowls or plates let the teabag cool down before you put it in the food waste bin, so it doesn't steam up the inside of the caddy
Every day is a school day on here.

I never understood why people needed to have a tea bag plate. It always struck me as an unnecessary piece of clutter.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/05/2020 14:19

Ooh! Bleach and Cif etc! I haven't used such stuff for decades. Septic tanks don't like it.

Honestly, the sink doesn't stay stained. But if I want to do more cleaning I use bicarbonate of soda, with or without lemon juice or vinegar.

Maybe I just don't notice!

BarbedBloom · 20/05/2020 14:22

We used to put ours in the sink to cool down before we put them in the recycling. I use tea leaves now though so no more tea bags

MrsIronfoundersson · 20/05/2020 14:37

why don't we have sink disposal units inmost ofthe UK? In a country of tea drinkers, that would save a lot of grief

The 'bag is actually some form of plasticky stuff (technical term) so it doesn't grind down in the insinkerator properly and will clog it up. They don't compost down either, you end up with lots of tea bags in the compost even though the leaves rot down. I tear them open and put tealeaves in compost, bags in food caddy- when cold of course!

OneandTwenty · 20/05/2020 14:49

so it doesn't grind down in the insinkerator properly and will clog it up.

Thanks, never mind. I have seen too many movies where you could lose an entire arm in there, I thought they could go through anything Grin

Comefromaway · 20/05/2020 14:54

The mini sinks in the middle are for rinsing veg, not dirty teabags.

My in laws do this and it drives me nuts. I make my feelings known loudly.

I like my sink to be clean. Urgh!

CHIRIBAYA · 20/05/2020 14:57

Not straight in dussy because they will drip. Our sink is grey so they don't stain. I couldn't be doing with the faff of a teapot, another bit of clutter and something to wash up and leaves clinging everywhere when you empty it.

angieloumc · 20/05/2020 15:01

GladAllOver I too use an infuser for just me, or if I have guests a rarely used teapot. If I ever go to someone's home i have coffee as Ian sure I can taste the teabag.

MouthBreathingRage · 20/05/2020 15:04

We have a teabag plate. It's handy to dump a couple on it then sort it out when washing out the cups after, but my husband lets them pile up like it's his personal game of Jenga Hmm.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 20/05/2020 15:27

Make your own tea then.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 20/05/2020 15:27

I hate this too! To anyone who does this, please answer this question: how is the teabag meant to make it into the bin? Do yours walk there themselves?

UnfinishedSymphon · 20/05/2020 15:48

Make your own tea then

Hmm
FOJN · 20/05/2020 15:55

MolyHolyGuacamole

Do yours walk there themselves?

Please tell me this isn't a rhetorical question and tea bags that walk themselves to the bin are a thing Grin

Bubbletrouble43 · 20/05/2020 15:58

My DP does this. I would LTB but we have toddler twins and I'm not putting up with them alone 🤣

Roselilly36 · 20/05/2020 16:03

I would be annoyed too. I have a tea bag caddy by the kettle, works fine, goes through the dishwasher etc.

ElectricTonight · 20/05/2020 16:04

I do this and it's just down to laziness, I now leave the tea bag in my mug Blush

Downinthedumps99 · 20/05/2020 16:16

Thats would give the rage too, my dh puts them in the recycle bin Angry

VanGoghsDog · 20/05/2020 17:01

I have a teabag pot to allow them to cool and dry before going in the bin, or the bin gets wet and then drips when it's emptied.

I had my waste disposal unit taken out as it just kept getting blocked up, it was useless generally and hopeless with teabags.

I usually use leaves though, either in an infuser or in a teapot, and I keep a sieve over the half sink to empty the pot into, so the leaves stay there to dry out before going in the bin (no food caddy or compost where I am, but you shouldn't put teabags in the compost anyway).

I agree that putting teabags in the sink is rank.

RoomOnOurBroom · 20/05/2020 17:12

you should have told him you needed the sink and he needed to move his crap to the bin as he is the one who left it there.
I do that with my kids
But I have enough children without having to treat DH as one. Confused

The sink doesn't stain my Belfast sink does. I think the key word there was 'scrub' - not much of that happening with teabags here which is the problem, it's me that has to do the scrubbing.

PG tips are made of paper again and can be composted, so I am told (but I'll let you know when I turn the compost heap!)

OneAndTwenty I think we've been watching the same films!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is unreasonable behaviour. LTB is of course the only option, unless one of you finds some walking tea bags...

YANBU we put ours in an empty jam jar. when the jam jar has been changed for cleaning a replacement is in the cupboard directly above the kettle. if it hasn't been taken out of the cupboard (which doesn't have a door btw, and it is eye level) and put next to the kettle, DH will deposit tea bags into the sink. then he will have to remove them from the sink. sometimes he even just balances them on the edge of the sink?! i mean the bin is... the same distance.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/05/2020 17:21

But teabags are little wiry packets... They scrub as well as a non stick sponge does!

Doesn't take much effort.

What the hell am doing differently?

I'm looking at a 10 year old Belfast sink that has teabags in it all day, every day!

FFS! DH just laughed at me... I drink redbush tea... might make a big difference.

Sorry.

Belledan1 · 20/05/2020 17:28

Either DH or DC made a tea and obv aimed for the sink at distance but it hit my blind first. There was big mark on it.They dont do it anymore!

LBB2020 · 20/05/2020 17:36

DH does this and it drives me mad! It stains the sink and it’s me that ends up having to clean it (and put the bloody tea bags in the bin!)

CaptainButtock · 20/05/2020 18:31

We used to have a phantom 'tea bag in the sink' person at work.

Turned out to be my boss. Animal.
I think this would be 'justifiable homicide' op.
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.

FOJN · 20/05/2020 18:36

CuriousaboutSamphire
Bugger, I was hoping to give your Teabag/sink cleaning hack a go so that I could dispense with the bleach but afraid I'm a dozen cups of Yorkshire a day.
