Ebayer now doesn't want to pay for item.

I've been selling on ebay for few years now and not had a situation like this. Just want advice as unsure if I should cancel the order or set up an unpaid request.

I put a listing up of a bundle that went for around 50 pounds. The bidder who won it won the last second of the auction and a day later still hadn't paid. So I sent them a payment reminder so I could post it to them quickly. Day later they ask for cheaper postage for a small parcel when the bundle is huge and already this was so they could try save a pound off the price so seemed petty.
I said I thought it seemed fair and that I was going to try to resolve this now through ebay as I'm uncomfortable with how long its been now without payment. Another day had gone and they now confessed saying they checked their bank and didn't want to now pay that much and wanted just one thing out of the bundle and asked me to sell them just that and relist the rest at my time and expense.

I said you shouldn't bid on a item if you don't intend on paying and said they should of cancelled or retract bid. They say I have to cancel and for them to accept that.

Should I cancel it or open up a unpaid item?
I know not exactly world issues right now but feel messed about and unsure what is best way to solve it.

I recently had this where somebody bought something off me for £70 and never paid for it, didn’t answer any of the requests for payment or any of my messages, annoying, so I just relisted it, I didn’t set up a dispute because at the end of the day if they don’t wanna pay they’re not going to and I didn’t want a negative feedback, eBay are all about the buyers and you don’t get a lot of support as a seller unfortunately, I’d cut my losses and realist it

TomNook · 19/05/2020 08:21

Just bin them off. Relist

AStarSoBright · 19/05/2020 08:22

Offer it to the bidder before them.

Ohtherewearethen · 19/05/2020 08:23

It sounds like they've messed you around from start to finish. £50 is not a small amount so it seems strange that would make a bid of that size when they have so little in the bank. The quibbling over postage, etc is just them chancing their luck. Don't sell them just the kind item from the bundle, they are a pain in the arse. I'd relist the whole thing and sell to someone else. Can you do that immediately if you open a non-payment dispute?

Ohtherewearethen · 19/05/2020 08:23

*one item, not kind

redwoodmazza · 19/05/2020 08:24

You need to start a dispute - that way you will get credited for any listing fees etc.

roses2 · 19/05/2020 08:25

Let it go and relist - you won't be able to get them to pay up. It's annoying but take comfort int he fact that bundles are now selling for more than they were two months ago because all the clothes shops are shut!

grafittiartist · 19/05/2020 08:26

I have had people apologise and back out of a sale.
You can just close it and resist the item.

stairgates · 19/05/2020 08:27

Cancel the sale. If they want to be petty they can pay for the item then say it arrived damaged or something similar and geta full refund, ebay can be harsh for a seller.

Cherrysoup · 19/05/2020 08:27

Dispute so you don’t get charged fees.

Bojohair · 19/05/2020 08:30

You will get charged for fees if you don’t dispute it, plus they can still post feedback.

Peapod29 · 19/05/2020 08:31

I had this once. The annoying thing was every time I messaged them they insisted they wanted it and would pay soon. It was a fairly niche designer handbag so I hung on and on for months. Eventually I just had to resist it. You can’t force someone to pay for something. I’d just relist.

Bojohair · 19/05/2020 08:31

And put them on your blocked list.

KonTikki · 19/05/2020 08:33
  1. Drop the buyer
  2. Realist the item
  3. Block the buyer

Simples

Mythica · 19/05/2020 08:35

Yes. As pp have said. You need to file a dispute to get the listing fees and sales fees returned.

I would anyway. Cheeky sod.

Alternatively, do you have other bidders? A second chance offer to the next highest bidder is also an option.

Elouera · 19/05/2020 08:35

Ebay have a forum specifically to ask about issues like this. You might find it helpful.

Rubychard · 19/05/2020 08:37

File a dispute
Block buyer

3 unpaid item strikes and they are banned

WhenItIsOver · 19/05/2020 08:40

Open an unpaid dispute to get your fees back and they will get a mark on their account.

When it is done add them to your blocked buyer list.

Re-list. Consider using Buy it Now with immediate payment set up and add best offer. No-one will be able to buy without paying, and you can choose whether you want to sell it to the person who makes an offer having looked at their feedback received and left for others first.

That is as safe as it gets for selling to avoid time wasters. You don't have to accept offers and using BIN gives you a 30 day listing plus relists until sold or you can end and re-list if you want to.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/05/2020 08:40

Mark them as a non paying bidder and offer the item to the second highest bidder for what they bid, if the price is acceptable - depending on how people bid, it might only be a few pence less.

Helpusout · 19/05/2020 08:52

I looked on some ebay threads but were from like 2014 so not sure if that still applies. Thanks for everyones advice.
Yeah I don't want to be charged for fees as if its sold that doesn't seem fair but if I open a dispute and they pay I have to then send it to someone who I can guess will try to make out the items aren't new condition and that could mean loosing more. Just doesn't seem fair on the seller.

Helpusout · 19/05/2020 08:55

They outbid by a fair about 8 pounds so they must have thought about it surely. The bundle is New and value double the amount so they were getting a good deal.

She’s asking on here - that ok with you?

binkyblinky · 19/05/2020 09:00

eBay doesn't sanction buyers other than an unpaid item strike. It's just not worth your effort opening up a dispute. Be wary of spiteful feedback!
Closing the transaction will mean they can't do this to you, and you them.

Forget it and move on, and something genuine may have happened meaning they can't afford the bundle anymore.

I've been selling on eBay for about 12 years ..... honestly not worth getting worked up over. You might be able to offer it to the next highest bidder but best to just relist

binkyblinky · 19/05/2020 09:00

If it was a bid in the last few seconds they may have been using a bidding app. Plenty about

cozycat1 · 19/05/2020 09:04

I would raise an unpaid item case. Ok you don't really get anything from that - you get fees returned, but I don't think you would have incurred fees as listings are free. The the buyer gets a warning and they can't leave negative feedback for you. Block them as well. They have mucked you about.
