Ebayer now doesn't want to pay for item.

I've been selling on ebay for few years now and not had a situation like this. Just want advice as unsure if I should cancel the order or set up an unpaid request.

I put a listing up of a bundle that went for around 50 pounds. The bidder who won it won the last second of the auction and a day later still hadn't paid. So I sent them a payment reminder so I could post it to them quickly. Day later they ask for cheaper postage for a small parcel when the bundle is huge and already this was so they could try save a pound off the price so seemed petty.
I said I thought it seemed fair and that I was going to try to resolve this now through ebay as I'm uncomfortable with how long its been now without payment. Another day had gone and they now confessed saying they checked their bank and didn't want to now pay that much and wanted just one thing out of the bundle and asked me to sell them just that and relist the rest at my time and expense.

I said you shouldn't bid on a item if you don't intend on paying and said they should of cancelled or retract bid. They say I have to cancel and for them to accept that.

Should I cancel it or open up a unpaid item?
I know not exactly world issues right now but feel messed about and unsure what is best way to solve it.

Cancel sale then block them

Thelnebriati · 19/05/2020 11:12

Open up a unpaid item case and block them. That way they get a defect for non payment, and you get a final fee credit.
If they get enough defects, Ebay will suspend their account.

Look at your account settings, and use the option to say if you don't pay within 72 hours Ebay will open a case. Its a nuisance but if you let them get away with it they can keep doing to to other people.
You can also block people who have more than 2 unpaid item defects in the last year.

I once had someone win an ebay auction for a stereo (£200) , then no payment, no message etc.

Unfortunately for him, he had a very distinctive name, so when I googled him I found out where he worked and associated phone number.

He paid pretty quickly after I phoned his direct line. So so satisfying!
(not helpful but feel free to bask in the satisfaction) solidarity

@Elouera

not everyone knows there is an ebay forum, so incase the OP didn't know, its another place she can get help, in addition to asking on here!

But you didn’t post in that friendly way. You didn’t mention looking at the forum as well as posting on here. You posted “You might find it helpful.”

UnfinishedSymphon · 19/05/2020 11:51

@Elouera I think we all know what you meant in your first post. If you were trying to be helpful rather than snidey, you would have given all the info in your first post

@Weallhavevalidopinions
Tracking is for your benefit. Easy to add £1.00 to the start price or list with 'Free Post' and just add it all in to the total. I have a note on all my listings that most of my items are sent tracked, I decide when I see who has bought it whether I need to use tracked or not.

If you look like a new seller you might have attracted the wrong kind of buyer, they pick on new sellers/yellow stars/low feedback and try to rip them off. Making it difficult for them stops you losing your item and the money.

@Helpusout

Have you tried here? Hopefully it will give you the page I intended it to

www.ebay.co.uk/help/home

It takes you to:
Buyer demanded something that wasn't offered in my listing
Buyer made a false claim
Buyer misused returns
Buyer messaged me or retracted their bid with no intention of buying my item

'Buyer demanded something that wasn't offered' is what you need. They wanted to change the terms and postage. Report them, that is what it is for.

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 19/05/2020 12:15

Just cancel the transaction.
There is option like that.

Piffle11 · 19/05/2020 14:57

I’m pretty sure you can just cancel and still get your fee back. Then block her. I’ve done this in the past. I think it asks you for a reason you’re cancelling- I think you can say buyer changed their mind - then I think they contact the buyer to confirm and you’re done. I wouldn’t give her the one item cos to me it sounds as though this was her plan all along.
