Dm on the phone -
People who like drama call it covid.

People who prefer to make minimal fuss and get on with things call it coronavirus.

Ie the middle classes are more likely to call it coronavirus.

She was bu of course wasnt she. Didn't know what to say

It's Rona.

Winederlust · 20/05/2020 22:37

The fact that your MIL has even thought about this says more about her than anyone else.

sozzlechops · 20/05/2020 22:44

My mum insists on calling it
COVID-DConfused

lljkk · 20/05/2020 22:51

The Yoof call it 'Rona.

cushioncovers · 20/05/2020 22:58

I'm bored of saying coronavirus so have started to say Covid to jazz things up a little. 🤷🏻‍♀️

CrowleysBentley · 20/05/2020 23:15

I don't think it matters in the slightest, call it covid or coronavirus, everyone knows what you mean.

19yo DD and mates are calling it rona, or the rona Hmm

21yo DS and friends have taken to calling it the plague, or the pestilence.

I think both are just very bored now.

mathanxiety · 21/05/2020 01:47

Agree, @Haffiana.

DameHannahRelf · 21/05/2020 02:26

I havn't rtft. The virus itself was once (and sometimes still is) refered to as novel coronavirus(nCoV), as that's what it is, and is now known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, shortened to SARS-CoV-2, the cause of coronavirus disease 2019 (nicknamed covid 19). But what would a working class pleb like me know? Hmm

NeutrinoWrangler · 21/05/2020 02:45

Meh, don't people call it different things and different times? I know I do. I think it's a bit silly (and pointless) to try to tie any of the names to a class, so on the basis of that, she is being unreasonable.

NeutrinoWrangler · 21/05/2020 02:46

Ugh. Different things *at different times...

Coyoacan · 21/05/2020 04:10

Hilarious that the class system has taken hold of this word so quickly.

choli · 21/05/2020 05:35

Ah mumsnet
Like a Keeping Up Appearances episode it's all about how you want to be perceived with regard to class.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 21/05/2020 05:48

My mother is like that. She still treats me as if I'm 14. Just mutter some platitude and talk about the weather.

dudsville · 21/05/2020 06:39

We call it "the virus" or "the pandemic", since everyone knows what we're taking about. When typing i use "cv19". There's not a class thing to this and one term isn't more provocative than the other and being a drama llama isn't a class characteristic.

Papatron · 24/05/2020 13:29

The best name for it is covfefe-19 Grin

MRex · 24/05/2020 13:37

I use either pretty much at random, does that make me lower middle class or upper working class?
