To ask how the shopping gets inside?

There seem to be a lot of new slots coming on for sainsburys near me for delivery (after all the priority ones have gone) so I'm considering getting one. I'm curious as they no longer do bags, will they empty the crates outside the front door and then I bring the items in? Probably a stupid question but working out how feasible as heavily pregnant and on my own. Anyone shopped Sainsburys for a massive online shop lately?

@iften - for the moment, Ocado are not taking back bags (though will take back substitutions )

MayFayre · 17/05/2020 12:59

iften Ocado won’t take them back at the moment

Tesco are delivering to me in bags, not that I think they need to, they could leave the crate at the door whilst you empty the items into your own bags. We are drowning in a sea of plastic at the moment

TheFlis12345 · 17/05/2020 13:01

Our Tesco deliveries have been inconsistent in approach. Sometimes it comes in bags, sometimes they are happy to just give us the crates to empty into our own bags. One guy picked up each individual item with a grabber and put it in loads of bags, took bloody ages and he looked at me in absolute borrow when I asked if he could use some of our bags for life!

TheFlis12345 · 17/05/2020 13:04

That should have been absolute horror! Hmm

MinesaPinot · 17/05/2020 13:04

In Kent here. Tesco are delivering in bags. Delivery driver puts the crates on the doorstep and steps away, we unload the top crate and he takes it and we start on the next one. He tucks the receipt in the bag on the top of the crate and says if he have any substitutions which gives me a chance to say yay or nay as I want.

Ghostlyglow · 17/05/2020 13:06

Had my first Tesco delivery since lockdown yesterday 🎉 it was in bags, left on the doorstep.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 17/05/2020 13:07

My Tesco delivery comes in bags. Asda doesn't

JemilyJ · 17/05/2020 13:11

@toomanytrollshere my tesco shop just arrived, it’s in bags.
I open my door in advance if I see them coming then move away and get them to put the bags just inside the door (my hall is long enough to socially distance)

SimpleKindofLife · 17/05/2020 13:13

I'm in London, my tesco delivery comes in bags, has done for weeks!

IllegalFred · 17/05/2020 13:13

We've been having click and collect orders and now have tons of bags.

Thanks for the info @Somanysocks about food banks wanting bags, I was wondering if they would be needed somewhere, I'm loathe to chuck them straight away when they're bags for life. I use a few as bin liners but we get far more in a delivery then we can use in a week

womaninatightspot · 17/05/2020 13:14

My tesco deliveries and click and collect comes in bags I have loads of them now. Drivers bring the crates and you grab bags out and stick on doorstep. Has anyone else noticed that there are lots more delivery slots opening up. Weekly shop booked in for the next few weeks ( performs happy dance).

CustardySergeant · 17/05/2020 13:19

I'm on the East Sussex coast and both Asda and Tesco deliveries are coming in bags here.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 17/05/2020 13:20

My Tesco deliveries have been in bags and left on my doorstep. Logo ones in the beginning and plain white ones recently.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/05/2020 13:24

FYI, Tesco are not doing bags. Avoid if possible!

I have a pile of over 100 Tesco logo bags for life in my house now! Tesco are doing bags in my area. I am going to call the local foodbank next week to see if they need them.

2bazookas · 17/05/2020 13:24

"FYI, Tesco are not doing bags. Avoid if possible!"

Our Tesco does supply everything in bags for online shopping.

I order online from Tesco; they pack everything in reusable bags, and deliver it in crates to the front door at specified time. Delivery guy rings bell and backs off, I bring the bags inside and close door he takes the crates away. Fantastic service and I tell him so every time.

Deelish75 · 17/05/2020 13:25

Ive been getting Sainsbury's deliveries throughout (in Kent). Always come in bags except for big bulky items. Driver puts crates on doorstep then steps back, I move forward to take bags - it can turn into quite a funny dance. The drivers have been great.

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/05/2020 13:27

Apologies to Tesco. I assumed it was a universal policy (odd that it's not).

JustSew · 17/05/2020 13:28

Not only are they doing bags Tesco are sending the reusable ones. I currently have 70000000 in the garage. I asked the driver if he would take them back for re-cycling but no. I can't take them anywhere to donate as I can't go out.
They leave in open porch. I decant and wipe everything then the bags go into the garage in quarantine.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/05/2020 13:28

Has anyone else noticed that there are lots more delivery slots opening up.

Tesco have responded early and quickly, increasing their delivery capability since the lockdown, there was an email recently from them and they have added 100s of thousands of slots since the beginning of the lockdown. Other than the first couple of weeks I have been able to get a choice of slots most weeks here meaning I haven't been in a supermarket for weeks. Cost of shopping has rocketed though.

IsadoraQuagmire · 17/05/2020 13:28

I'm in central London. Tesco did my delivery last week in crates, which puts me off using them again.

mrsbyers · 17/05/2020 13:29

Tesco did bags for us on thursday , Asda do bags - if you’re in any doubt put that you want the groceries bagged in the comments section

WeAllHaveWings · 17/05/2020 13:31

@JustSew, you could try ringing the local foodbanks and if they need them someone might pick up from outside your door or one of your local coronavirus support volunteers might pick up and drop off. They are probably inundated with bag donations, but worth a try.

pooiepooie25 · 17/05/2020 13:32

Tesco are doing bags!

Likethebattle · 17/05/2020 13:38

Sainsbury’s do bags big if you’re supermarket don’t you can put your own bags next to the door and empty the crate in there.

I got a sainsburys delivery the other night and the driver spoke to me from the roadside at the van he asked me to close over the door and step back. He the wheeled all the crates up to the door and he stepped back. I then emptied them.
