To ask if any of you got pregnant with PCOS

So, we are not planning on having kids for I'd say at least another 2 years, but I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3-4 years ago since I have been worried about getting pregnant when the time comes... I am on no contraception - using condoms all the time - as I didn't want to take any hormones into my body + I get migraines so can't be on the pill really. I still get my period bang on, 21 days however I bleed very little... like 3 days perhaps. First 2 days mid heavy, 3rd barley bleeding then patches of blood and brown discharge for another 2-3 days...
Apart from that I deal with mild acne and very sensitive boobs all the time that might indicate some hormone imbalances.
Every now and then I get a bit of a fear of getting pregnant when the time comes... I'm in my late 20s and I know that infertility can affect many lives but just to stear my thoughts to a positive direction does anyone have successfull pregnancy stories with PCOS?

Yes. Ttc for 2 years with first, used Angus castus in the end in desperation and got pregnant the following month. Ttc for just a couple of months with our second.

My Dsis had 2 pregnancies she was treated for PCOS for many years until she had private healthcare to see an endocrinologist. She has hashimoto auntoimune disorder attacking her thyroid similar symptoms both difficult to get pregnant with too.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/05/2020 23:41

Yes, I started trying for my first baby aged 29 and finally had him 10 years later using IVF. I had a combination of severe non-IR PCOS, a clotting disorder the NHS doesn’t test for, thyroid antibodies / Graves Disease, and a really high NK killer cell count that needed to be treated. Got pregnant as soon as I got treated.

I was told throughout my treatment that if I had taken the pill earlier on my ovaries might not have been so damaged because it’s ovulation that damages them. You might be better off going on the pill - get some advice from a consultant.

rainbowlou · 16/05/2020 23:42

I had an ectopic and a tube removed as well as having pcos, I was on the pill and fell pregnant 3 years later.
I have since started taking myo-inositol to help with pcos symptoms

coronaornona · 16/05/2020 23:48

Yes after 3-4 months on metformin

EnglishRain · 16/05/2020 23:51

31 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Took three years, metformin, Clomid, and two miscarriages to get here. We had just had our IVF funding come through when I used a last lot of clomid in the cupboard which magically worked.

coco123456789 · 16/05/2020 23:53

I have had 3 babies, had PCOS diagnosed since I was a teenager. Took 9 months the first time, and the second 2 conceived in the first month of trying. No mc or anything, I have been very lucky.

Pcosandpregnant · 16/05/2020 23:55

Yes as you can tell by my username Grin I was diagnosed with PCOS after not having a period for 3 months, high hormones and cysts on my ovaries when I was 21. After that it become worse and I had very irregular periods, sometimes I wouldn’t have one for 9 months. I am soooo hairy even especially my neck and chin and my testosterone is high enough to affect my vitamin d and my red blood cells. I fell pregnant 12 weeks ago completely unexpectedly and we wasn’t even trying and were being extremely careful, clearly not careful enough! I have to say though I lost nearly 4 stone and from the moment I lost the first stone my periods started arriving every 6 weeks, then 5 weeks and then when I got to 4 stone it was every 4 weeks without fail. I eat a high carb diet but I have heard that it isn’t good for women with PCOS. I honestly don’t believe I would have fell pregnant without losing weight. I wish you the best of luck.

WithASpider · 16/05/2020 23:55

Yes, 3 times without an issue.

Most of my PCOS problems resolved after the first one too, still got the insulin resistance and excess hair though!

DeeCeeCherry · 16/05/2020 23:57

Yes. I was put on Clomid and pregnant within a week with DC1. Then got pregnant naturally with DC2. Had my DCs aged 31 & 32 resoectively. DC2 was a surprise as doctors told me 1st child would be my only.

Lifeasweknow · 17/05/2020 00:00

Yes. Ive had two children but 4 pregnacies and my periods are extremely irregular. 1st took us 18 months to conceive and I miscarried. I.then conceived 2 months after that. 3rd was around 18 months of active trying and I miscarried. I fell pregnant 9 months later without actively trying and it was the first time we'd had sex in a good 2 months. No medical interventions.

Fromthebirdsnest · 17/05/2020 02:09

@BritWifeinUSA im so sorry Flowers x x

Expat30 · 17/05/2020 02:23

I have pcos been put on metformin. i have never been on the pill but it seems that the women who have pcos and have used the pill seem to fall pregnant quite quickly afterwards and have less problems ttc v the women who have never taken the pill

Gimmecaffeine · 17/05/2020 04:45

I had no problems conceiving, but I did have three early miscarriages. There are so many potential reasons for the MCs though, with only a vague link to PCOS.

It took 14 months to conceive my DD, she was the 4th pregnancy.

Yellowfishy8 · 19/05/2020 20:19

Thank you so much for all your comments. It was great to hear that many of you have had successful pregnancies and now enjoying motherhood ☺️ As I said in my post not planning having kids for a couple of years at least but good to all the tips/advice you lot gave me. Once I can get an appointment with my GP I will talk to her re contraception. I thought I was doing the best by not being on any contraception but some of you mentioned that it can have positive affect re getting pregnant with PCOS ☺️
Hope you all have a lovely evening!

I had been on the pill since I was 15 and came off it to ttc when I was 25. It took 8 months for my periods to return to normal, but I fell pregnant on that next cycle and was only diagnosed with PCOS when I had my first scan - they were quite surprised I had managed to get pregnant so easily!

With DD2, I got pregnant as soon as we started ttc, so PCOS didn't cause me any fertility issues at all - I just had crappy skin (it's improved loads now) and have the Deppo injection to save me from debilitating periods! Good luck when you do decide to go for it!

ShastaBeast · 19/05/2020 21:21

Two babies, first an surprise and the second very quick, I hadn’t even had a period after coming off the mini pill. Losing weight helps, I was dieting both times, although not particularly overweight beforehand. My periods were always very irregular so I expected it to take a while.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 19/05/2020 21:55

yes twice and with no periods as well

i have never ever had a period not even a first one,im 39

i got to 17 and was told i was infertile due to severe PCOS and under developed ovaries and would need ivf in the future

meet my (only)partner at 18 ,he was 17 and as we were each others first for anything sexual we have never used any type of contraception at all

we started to try to get pregnant at 19 but as i never saw any periods all we could do was have unprotected sex as technically i couldnt track anything

doctors wouldnt help either so we were left to it

i had him a few months off 24 so you could say 6 years ttc

i had a horrendous pregnancy as i was bed ridden with HG

few years later we wanted another, this time they were willing to help but only fertility tablets not ivf as i technically caught naturally so wasnt eligible for anything further if they didnt work it was tough luck

i was on the strongest clomid tablet but as i wasnt having any periods i couldnt take it on day 1 so took it the same date every month

they tried all types of medication for me to come on but nothing ever worked so we carried on month after month after month

i had 3 overy drillings, tests to see any blockages

i was having scans every fortnight
first to see if i did get pregnant, if i wasnt then i could continue with next months tablets
2nd to see if my ovaries was producing any eggs

this went on for 4 years and on my very last packet i finally caught

i had him at 30,no problem with this pregnancy

i did have very bad labours but i put that down to them being massive babies

we have wanted another one but as i asked at 36 they wasn't willing to help us and as we are carers looking after 2 disabled kids we cant afford ivf

PCOSTTC42 · 08/06/2020 10:25

Hi. I have been ttc for around 16 months with no luck. My periods vary between 40 days to 80+ days. I have had an internal scan and ultrasound which confirmed PCOS and numerous blood tests. My DH was due to do a semen test but it was cancelled due to cornavirus (understandable but also upsetting for us). I am 33 this year and feel as though its never going to happen. I came off the pill in 2016 and only started getting periods last year. I just hope it will happen naturally but it doesn't look promising for me.

Wiaa · 08/06/2020 10:39

Yes twice age 39 and 43, tried for a long time, had 2 failed ivf attempts. Mine is quite severe approx 2 periods a year because I rarely ovulate even though I have plenty of eggs (medically proven).

theruffles · 08/06/2020 10:51

Yes, my first at 30 after TTC for over 2 years. After various tests and procedures I was put on Clomid and managed to conceive on the 3rd round. I think I'd like another but for now we're just seeing what happens naturally before looking into possible further treatment. My PCOS is quite severe but cycle lengths seem to have got much shorter since having DD - they were 70+ days before but now nearer 42.

WildCherryBlossom · 08/06/2020 11:28

Two friends of mine had PCOS and thought they would struggle to conceive. Both of them opted for no contraception after they got married and each one had 3 babies in quick succession with no help needed.

Ratbagratty · 08/06/2020 11:42

8 years for first child, first time for second. Have pics and thyroid issues. Was on Metformin and had previously tried many medical interventions except for IVF (was told to lose weight to get on list).

Aweebawbee · 08/06/2020 11:45

I was diagnosed with severe PCOS in my late teens and was told that I might have difficulty conceiving, but I went on to have 2 DCs, first attempt, no problems.

Lozz22 · 08/06/2020 11:54

Yes but miscarried
