To ask if any of you got pregnant with PCOS

So, we are not planning on having kids for I'd say at least another 2 years, but I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3-4 years ago since I have been worried about getting pregnant when the time comes... I am on no contraception - using condoms all the time - as I didn't want to take any hormones into my body + I get migraines so can't be on the pill really. I still get my period bang on, 21 days however I bleed very little... like 3 days perhaps. First 2 days mid heavy, 3rd barley bleeding then patches of blood and brown discharge for another 2-3 days...
Apart from that I deal with mild acne and very sensitive boobs all the time that might indicate some hormone imbalances.
Every now and then I get a bit of a fear of getting pregnant when the time comes... I'm in my late 20s and I know that infertility can affect many lives but just to stear my thoughts to a positive direction does anyone have successfull pregnancy stories with PCOS?

I had severe PCOS and Endometriosis. I'm also in a same sex relationship, so the odds were stacked against me. However, I'm currently watching Aladdin with my 4 year old ❤️

(It took six years, 5 IVF's and about £40k in total, but she's worth every second, and every penny)

Meadows20 · 16/05/2020 20:31

Yep...fell pregnant within 3 weeks of the implant being removed. Was a very pleasant surprise.

Babyshine2020 · 16/05/2020 20:32

I was diagnosed after TTC for 12 months, I was put on metformin and got pregnant on our second period (but I didn't have periods prior to Metformin) - when the times right just try some ovulation kits and you'll have the best chance.

The fact you still have periods is promising!

peachgreen · 16/05/2020 20:32

Yes, me, twice. Miscarried the first bit second was a straightforward, healthy and enjoyable pregnancy and is now a maddening, gorgeous, perfect 2 year old. No help needed.

peachgreen · 16/05/2020 20:33

I was also obese during my pregnancy and it had absolutely no impact. The most discomfort I had was a couple of days of carpal tunnel right at the end (41+6).

Fromthebirdsnest · 16/05/2020 20:49

Yes ! I am lucky in a way that i don't have many of the symptoms of PCOS except for pain ! As i do get extremely enlarged ovaries and I have very irregular periods .. I did unfortunately have lots of miscarriages and all my births were early but that won't nesserserly happen to you x good luck and I hope you don't have any issues at all xxx

Join the group PCOS Tribe UK on Facebook there's loads of tips that could help when the time comes.

ItsTheFuckingTruth · 16/05/2020 21:05

How severe is it OP?

I was diagnosed with PCOS years and years ago due to some issues I was having with my periods in my teens and some cysts showing on a scan I had back then.

I've been pregnant lots of times, sadly they have ended badly but that is nothing to do with the PCOS, it's a completely different condition. I've not really been affected by the PCOS at all (in fact some of my doctor's have recently starting disputing whether they think I have it at all) but I know that's not the case for everyone.

It definitely can happen though.

Someone1987 · 16/05/2020 21:20

I have PCOS, very rare cycles. Didn't prevent for 5 years then went to the fertility clinic and was prescribed Metformin. That was a miracle drug for me. I ovulated, got pregnant four times. One ectopic and lost r.tube, two miscarriages but then my miracle son came through from my remaining tube, now 5 months. I never thought I'd have a child. Hence why I started in my early 20s. Now 28.

Aisforharlot · 16/05/2020 21:23

Yes. No trying first or second time, but second ended in miscarriage.
My diet was extremely healthy first time, loads of fruit and veg and protein.

Aisforharlot · 16/05/2020 21:24

I was 30 for ds.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 16/05/2020 21:28

Yes, took us a while to conceive DD1 as I wasn’t having periods at all mostly. Funnily enough after I had her my periods came back like clockwork and I got pregnant twice again very easily.

ECBC · 16/05/2020 21:38

A family member and a colleague (both with PCOS) are both pregnant. One got pregnant very quickly and the other took a year to conceive

Dita73 · 16/05/2020 21:41

I’m the same as @Washyourhandsyoufilthyanimal Pregnant both times the first month. I hardly ever had periods so I was amazed

Persiaclementine · 16/05/2020 22:02

My friend got pregnant and had a dd she has only conceived the once though she doesnt use any contraception

MrsCalypsoGrant · 16/05/2020 22:23

I always had very lengthy cycles, would skip entirely sometimes, & had skin issues so I always suspected something like PCOS. I went down the fertility clinic route (same sex couple) & was diagnosed at 31. I conceived DS on the second cycle of the lowest dose of Clomid. My periods became much more normal after him & my skin issues disappeared. I conceived my DD 5 years later first time with no medication at all. Since her birth my periods have been textbook. My consultant said she has seen this phenomenon before - there are women who have PCOS for years & it evaporates after a pregnancy. Good luck OP

SockQueen · 16/05/2020 22:24

DS1, tried for 18 months, wildly irregular cycles, got pregnant second cycle of Clomid.

DS2, we were not using contraception for 5 months (but not tracking ovulation or anything), periods still very irregular post-DS1 and still breastfeeding, and I got pregnant spontaneously, very unexpectedly! We had kind of assumed it would take ages so started trying with the assumption that we would have to do so for a year before going back to fertility clinic, so DS2 was definitely a surprise!

Clarinet53 · 16/05/2020 22:35

I was trying for 2 years. Was told by a friend about metformin, this was 16 years ago and not so widely used for pcos. Lost weight and conceived after 4 months. When we decided a second child would be good I went straight back on metformin and conceived in the second month.

DianaT1969 · 16/05/2020 22:35

How is your weight and nutrition OP? Many posters on threads have reported success after ditching sugar and processed carbs and getting into the healthy BMI range. I'd concentrate on that and ensuring good levels of vitamins and minerals. Then you'll feel in optimum shape to try.

Halloweenbabyy · 16/05/2020 22:45

Yes. Probably tired for about 3/4 months at most.

ArchieStar · 16/05/2020 22:50

Yep, 2nd time around I was on a type of chemo that was meant to shut down my reproductive organs. So it can happen.

toinfinityandlockdown · 16/05/2020 22:52

I did. It took 5 years and some fertility help privately (cheap as only clomid).

MsMeNz · 16/05/2020 22:55

Yes, four times, first was a miscarriage but four months later pregnant with my eldest. I had 13 odd cysts on my ovaries and 6 week cycles. Husband likes to think it's down to his swimmers 🙄 I think being on the pill for a few years prior helped level some of the hormonal issues out. But I'm only speculating 🤷

BritWifeinUSA · 16/05/2020 22:56

No. Diagnosed when I was in my early 20s. I am now 46. Tried for 20 years to become pregnant and nothing. I always said I wish I had the “celebrity version” of PCOS that the likes of Victoria Beckham claim to have where they can have multiple children.

I tried all sorts, even went as far as paying a fortune for IVF multiple times at a clinic in London. Nothing. It caused the breakdown of my first marriage. Now with my second husband and moved to the USA and still nothing. In 20 years of trying I had one ectopic pregnancy and that was it. We have reluctantly accepted childlessness now.

CheeryTreeBlossom · 16/05/2020 23:17

Yes, was diagnosed as a teenager with v irregular cycles, overweight, classic presentation. Been on Metformin ever since.
Having known for so long and with irregular cycles pre pill I fully expected it to be a be a long process and require IVF. We started trying earlier than intended because of that (at 28). However I got pregnant on the 2nd month after getting ovulation sticks.

I recommend those as I was ovulating later than the standard calculations suggested. Do check out the advice online because I believe you sometimes get off readings from the pcos hormones (constant +ve rather than the required spike).

I also recommend talking to your GP - find a good one/one who specialises in women's health.
Mine diagnosed me originally and has worked with me through managing the different aspects. For trying there's a few options they look at before it gets to IVF, some have been mentioned already (Metformin, clomid, weight management).
