How did you know your child had adhd and what did you do about it?

Just that.

My MIL knew when the health visitor literally said "my god he's crazy, how do you cope?!" This was 30 years ago and just starting to be diagnosed here. He was aggressive and in constant need of stimulation, would not slow down, even when watching tv he was moving.

However, he does experience it very strongly the GP at the time referred him to a specialist but I can't say any more as I'm unsure of the specifics

In contrast, my nephew was diagnosed with ASD when he was 4 and the adhd wasn't realised until he was 9 because the symptoms overlap. Medication was offered but she declined as he wasn't suffering since they were learning how to managed the ASD, so his overlapping issues were in relative control

We didn’t. ADHD with a couple of co-morbids just enabled us an avenue of support. No one really knew quite what the deal was, just that there was one. Or more.
(Extremely bright, numeric, high iq, sensory quirks, extremely chatty, inability to focus, hyperfocus, away with the fairies, no homework, no concentration, always knew the answers anyway, social anxiety, severe enuresis and encopresis). Inattentive not hyperactive though.
Still don’t really know for sure. Used as a bit of a catch-all I think. Diagnosed at 10, but had been flagged as of concern since 6. Prior to that he was known as golden wonder boy because he was a 45yo man trapped in an 18mo/2yo/3yo/4yo/5yo body. Teachers loved him. Then they just wanted him to churn out what they wanted. But he was too busy in his head. 🤷‍♀️

We thought my son had ADHD (I’m still not convinced he doesn’t) because he is extremely impulsive and never still or quiet. We got told no he does not have ADHD he is autistic and what looks like ADHD is actually extreme sensory seeking behaviour

My 9yr old has a diagnosis of ADHD. We suspected early on their was something maybe going on - certainly by 4yrs old. He is well behaved but often zoned out and he can just spin - you can almost see his mind going 1000 miles a minute....a small ship in a tsunami of sensory input. We did all kinds of hearing tests, sleep tests, eye exams, a lung assessment. Finally We had a full psycho educational assessment done and armed with that made a decision to start on medication which has helped.
