Corona fatigue

I’m just fed up of it all really.
Constant news headlines, half my friends banging on that we’ll all die because everyone is going out and being “SO BLOODY SELFISH” (Their caps, not mine). The other half banging on “WE HAVE TO WORK!” Accusations of “middle class privilege”, “cats can pass it on to you”, “no they can’t”, “my child is too precious to sacrifice on your educational corona alter”, “my child needs education”, “I need a haircut”.
This constant oneupmanship of who is suffering more, who is the most virtuous, sacrificing the most, is exhausting.
And ultimately, I actually feel I don’t care anymore. I’ll avoid getting it, passing it on as much as I can. But what will be will be, I can’t control it, I’m just exhausted of trying to or being told I should.

my child is too precious to sacrifice on your educational corona alter

That made me laugh and I bloody well needed it so thanks Grin

ludothedog · 16/05/2020 00:02

I'll see your recorder and give you a violin complete with zoom classes. Even the cats leave the house for that class....

I was dreaming today about getting the train into the city and going for tapas with friends..... I can taste the red wine already

stopgap · 16/05/2020 00:26

@DamnYankee, I totally agree with you. I listen only to our governor and I think he’s doing a good job.

We reopen next week here in Connecticut, in a very limited capacity, but damn straight I’ll be getting my hair done and eating outdoors at a restaurant. I’ve spent since March 11th at home (when our school closed) aside from two trips to the grocery store, and I’m itching to get out.

understandmenow · 16/05/2020 00:30

@stopgap I'm jealous! My hair is a mess, me nails are a mess, I need the beautician ..... it's all likely to be another six weeks at least! FFS!

MissEliza · 16/05/2020 00:32

@stopgap two trips out in two months?! How did you manage that?

Experimenopause · 16/05/2020 00:33

I am sick of it.
I wish we could go back about 30 years in time to invest some billion into research for this family of viruses and a vaccine. Scientists have been shouting about it all for a very long time.
But here we are and there is not much in my control.

stopgap · 16/05/2020 00:44

@MissEliza, sorry, should have clarified: I’ve been exercising daily and walking my dogs. I’ve only been to the store twice, as my husband has done the other trips, plus we have a friend with a grocery store and have been getting deliveries from him.

stopgap · 16/05/2020 00:48

@understandmenow Spas and nail salons are not permitted to open next week, nor are bars or gyms. It’s basically hairdressers, restaurants but only for takeaway or outdoor dining, and remaining retail.

Lemmings123 · 16/05/2020 00:55

I'm right there with you OP, today my 4 year old found a spiky ball in the garden and decided it looked like the virus and the next 10 mins was spent with her throwing the virus ball and shouting "CORONA" at the top of her lungs. My neighbours must hate me Confused

DamnYankee · 16/05/2020 01:06

*@Lemmings123 *
And that's when you step in there and offer them the Mexican beer by the same name.
However, maybe not available there?
That's when you mumble, "Oh, she's an aspiring immunologist/infectious disease mumblemumble..." and toss a bottle of red their way...

DamnYankee · 16/05/2020 01:08

Those do look like "the Corona"
BTW. Is this going to be like "the Cancer" for the next generation? I can remember grans with muffled tones: "It's the Cancer..."

Runworkeatsleeprepeat · 16/05/2020 01:09

So with you. I’ve had it. I know it would be much better for me to disengage and stop reading news and threads yet I can’t
It’s like self harm!

I was saying this to DH earlier when he said stop reading about it then.

majesticallyawkward · 16/05/2020 07:33

@VivienScott @Takingabreakagain she slept with the thing. 🤦‍♀️ will try 'oh don't you think it looks a bit poorly? We'd bed quarantine it' 😂

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 16/05/2020 07:39

I want to go to the nail salon and then for a coffee and if those places were open today - I would be off today.

Oysterbabe · 16/05/2020 07:43

I am so with you on this. I'm sick of the whole fucking thing and just don't care anymore.

If YOU are vulnerable then YOU stay home.
If YOU are scared of catching Covid then YOU stay home.
If YOU don't want to send your to school then don't.
I'll do whatever I want so fuck off.

nether · 16/05/2020 07:51

If YOU are vulnerable then YOU stay home

That's the advice to the .5 million people in the 'shield' group and it's tough and will be going on indefinitely

They do not need the government advice shouted out at every turn.

attackedbycritters · 16/05/2020 07:52

So we started with someone who appeared fed up of the extremes and drama

And lo, a selfish extremist appears

You FUCK OFF. Why should i be forced to isolate indoors because you can't give a fuck about anyone else but yourself

Oysterbabe · 16/05/2020 07:55

I'm not an extremist Hmm I'm someone who's fed up of being made to feel like a murderer for following government advice because other people don't agree with it.

dementedma · 16/05/2020 08:00

Agree with Op. No one is making light of this at all, ( my father in care , my elderly mother shielded etc) but I think we need to move on from the hysteria now. You cannot just tell thousands of people to put their lives on hold and believe they will comply indefinitely ( looking at you Nicola Sturgeon). People just start ignoring it.

BeatrixPottersAlterEgo · 16/05/2020 08:05

I completely agree. I'm not minisimising the seriousness of it all-I have close family members working on the front line, and I have family members who are vulnerable - but I don't see what shrieking and panicking is going to do to help anything.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/05/2020 08:35

"Spas and nail salons are not permitted to open next week, nor are bars or gyms. It’s basically hairdressers, restaurants but only for takeaway or outdoor dining, and remaining retail."
What country are you referring to? In the UK hairdressers will not be opening until July at the earliest.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/05/2020 08:42

"today my 4 year old found a spiky ball in the garden and decided it looked like the virus and the next 10 mins was spent with her throwing the virus ball and shouting "CORONA" at the top of her lungs."
I realised the other day that I have two spiky balls I use in the tumble dryer and the thought occurred to me that they are like the virus. I could try throwing them up the wall in the garage and screaming (just for something different to do).Grin

Neverender · 16/05/2020 08:44

I got my first food delivery slot today for 8 weeks so I'm on a high!

understandmenow · 16/05/2020 08:57

@Neverender so did I!!

Generallybewildered · 16/05/2020 09:07

I agree too. And am so relieved to find this thread. Everyone I know in RL And FB seems to be hysterical. I’ve been struggling mentally this week working and homeschooling (one child with SEN) and never, ever being separated from the little darlings. However, at least neither has a recorder although both sing.
