Independent fact checker on FB what is going on.

Just had a flag up telling me posts removed because they were not factual. One was a share from a newspaper, the other a joke.

I was annoyed about the joke, bemused about the newspaper article. Are we to be treated like children now on FB.

Is this censorship now?

It’s a social media platform - not the BBC. I feel quite thankful that they are at least attempting to take ownership of some of the more spurious content banded about. They won’t always get it right. But it’s not censorship. It’s Facebook!!!

I think it's good that they are removing fake news crap, Facebook doesn't owe you anything, if you don't agree with their policies don't use their site.

It's a good thing they are trying to do something about fake news. if yours was undeserved then blame the idiots flooding social media. It has to be at least semi-automated which means it will get it wrong some of the time.

No honestly it’s not a good thing. As adults we should be able to decide what we think is fake news or not. We shouldn’t get used to or need ‘other’ people to sift through that - on behalf of us.

Where does censorship end? Who decides what people are allowed to see and what they are not.

I was given a link to a David Icke video and I thought I’d watch it for a laugh as we were discussing him on a watsap group. When I went to look it had been removed. And that bothered me. Yes he is a crank but he still should have freedom of speech. But we’ve already lost that any way.

Years ago when we had hate preachers and the country was up in arms about banning them - I knew then that this would open up laws to stop people from speaking out freely.

I can get arrested or deleted or social media for speaking about my truths or how I feel and that’s not right.

I find it disturbing that people are so compliant and actively look to live in a society where ‘other’ people control what they can see, hear and read.

My point is, it's not just adults.

Worral I shouldn’t be treated as a 13 year old and I don’t need other people to censor any content for me . Maybe they should raise the age as it’s not actually aimed at children. There is a lot of sexual content on facebook so maybe parents need to consider that when they allow their children on it.

Facebook is shocking for videos of children beating beaten or animals being skinned alive but they are allowed to be circulated where as things that political are another story.

But who decides if it’s fake news? Posts get taken down about what Israel has done to Syria. You can’t say transgender women are men. You can get deplatformed if you promote woman - adult human female.

The thing with allowing this you can’t pick and choose which freedom of speech is allowed because of you ban it - you ban it all.

Democracy is about freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is at its very core.
