It will have been attached to a keyring or a necklace, you see stalls in tourist towns abroad writing peoples names on grains of rice then putting them into keyrings etc, Im sure I had one as a teenager from France or Spain.

Looks like a holiday souvenir with a name on a grain of rice on a key ring. I've seen this in Spain before

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 14/05/2020 18:12

Just a key ring

isabellerossignol · 14/05/2020 18:12

Is it definitely engraved? Years ago there used to be wee stalls that wrote your name on a grain of rice then they put it in some liquid so that it looked magnified, then they made it into a bracelet or a necklace or whatever. Could it be something like that? Just a novelty thing?

LycraLovingLass · 14/05/2020 18:14

Oh we hot one of these in Tunisia years ago, it was a key ring with your name written on a grain if sand.

LycraLovingLass · 14/05/2020 18:14

Rice not sand. That would be impressive wouldn't it.

NetballHoop · 14/05/2020 18:15

Not that I know about these things Halo, but to me it looks like one of those peyote maggots they put in Tequila bottles.

A relic from a holiday drinking session.

Ginkypig · 14/05/2020 18:26

There should be a ring in it for keys.

You used to be able to get them from stalls at almost every touristy place for a while.

You could choose which name to have engraved or there were premade ones with popular names.

They were normally found next to caricature stalls and those stalls with the guy who bent a piece of metal wire with pliers into a shape or an animal or a name etc to use as an ornament or souvenir Grin

It's a name on a grain! Just a keyring

Redcola · 14/05/2020 19:04

Ahh that makes sense thanks 😊 was wondering what on earth it could be and didn’t even know where to start on google 😂.
