If you've had covid-19, do you know where you got it?

Just curious really. Someone I know works in a 'closed' environment where there was a small outbreak of covid-19 and they were able to trace and isolate every case - a domino-track of workers who came into close contact, plus one more who changed a lightbulb in someone's living quarters and is thought to have caught it from the lightswitch. So, as we've been in lockdown for so long, I'm wondering if people who've developed symptoms very recently might have some strong suspicions around where they got it - a passing sneeze in a supermarket, a visit to a hospital, an illicit visit to a friend, etc etc.

Conversely, if people are completely at a loss to explain it, and have been following all the rules, that's interesting too ... it perhaps justifies all the advice which I followed at first but rapidly tired of about disinfecting your shopping, wiping down your letterbox etc etc.

Or maybe Mumsnetters have some strange unexplained immunity?

I know someone who got it and a guess is that they got it at work as other colleagues got it at the same time but they came out with symptoms the day after their daughter so it could have been them who spread it through work. It was the week after lockdown and they are a key worker so their daughter was still at nursery!

I was interviewing and shaking hands with about 20 people over 2 days at end of Feb. Lots of shared tea making kit etc for interviewers. started to feel unwell early march. So I assume it was from then. no testing to confirm but had the classic cough + fever which lasted about 2 weeks and then worked its way around my 2dc but no symptoms for dh.

Surely no one can know

Only person I know who has definitely had it is my Mum’s partner and he either caught it from my Mum (who must have been asymptomatic if she has had it- seems unlikely she hasn’t had it living with someone who has!) or from work. My Mum is a primary school TA so pre-lockdown was surrounded by lots of people every day. Her partner travels around the country so honestly could have been either of them.

A few different possibilities. Both friends, had drinks with them both on separate days. It's also possible I was the person who spread it, so I met person A, then got infected but no symptoms, then met person B

My husband has had it. He started with symptoms on 16th March so before the lock down and we live in London in one of the top 2/3 (not sure now) most affected boroughs. There is absolutely no way to know where he picked it up from.

My son has had it - he got it from his father.

My daughter and I (living in the same house as them all throughout the period) - no noticeable symptoms, so who knows??

No one can do any more than speculate. According to dementors cautious folk you can get it from everything from walking through the open countryside to recklessly receiving letters to toilet seats. So really no way to tell.

One friend is a nurse but she was off work due to an injury. Week before lockdown she did an Asda shop. Other than her house/garden it was the only place she had been. Seven days later she came down with symptoms.

Luckily mild but it didn't sound it. Her husband had no symptoms but was asymptomatic. Both tested both positive.

Several colleagues had symptoms in December/ January, but didn’t realise what it was at the time.
It was the weirdest illness I’ve ever had and couldn’t work out what it was at the time, like nothing I’ve ever had before.

My brother and his wife have both had it. Tested positive just over 3 weeks ago. My sil works in a care home which has had residents she cares for test positive and other members of staff have also tested positive both before and after her so more than likely She was infected at work and then infected my brother.
Both on the mend now although my sil was in bed for two weeks with severe flu like symptoms but my brother was pretty much asymmetric.

Several people who sit on my side of the office came down with a flu like virus in the week after the office closed (including me) - this was in mid March. No one became ill enough to need hospital admission and so no one knows if they actually had it but seems probable.

Several people in the office come in on public transport so best guess was if it was the virus, it was caught there and then passed on at work.

I said this in a previous thread but two people I know have had it (confirmed, they were admitted to hospital) having been absolutely nowhere for 3 weeks previously and only having contact with supermarket delivery driver (and then obviously at a distance).

They were told they were either extremely unlucky or had an unusually long incubation period.

It’s made me start washing my groceries just in case which does make me feel slightly insane

Someone I know his FIL died of cv19: the old chap had broken hip & went to A&E, after that to a hospice. So probably got covid in one of those environments. He was in late 80s & didn't last long after symptoms started.

I think I had it Caught probably from school. Started 2 weeks before becoming really ill Had a cough fit so bad on way home had to stop car and then a sudden sore throat That night sore throat and no voice next morning plus cough. Doctor said no that's not the symptoms no fever. 16th March temperature feeling sick headache sent home and 111 said isolate. Two weeks in bed had stomach problems, breathing problems loss of smell sickness temperatures aches under ribs and under shoulder blades. Exactly 14 days after I became ill husband went down with it. Nine weeks some breathing problems left and tiredness Doctor now says post viral Husband the same. Starting to feel better but not right. Husband and I are registered with two different surgeries both have said it was probably covid. Really interested to get an antibody test.

Not a clue, could have been the gym.

I had flu / a bad bad cold and isolated. Then my sister visited when I was a better- she works in a hospital. Two days later she came down with it. We thought she'd caught my cold. 9 days later I was ill, gravely and terrifyingly ill. I had bad cold, got over it and immediately contracted covid from my sister who had it when she visited. It was terrible

Meercat- did you get your sense of smell back? I'm weeks on and better but still can barely smell. I'm worried it'll never come back - though I realise how lucky I am of course

I work as a cleaner in domestic houses. Before lockdown I went to a house as normal one morning to clean, I was in the house 20 minutes or so when I was told that an older child in the house had developed a cough. Was told that the child had been looked over by a HCP and was fine. I was in the property for 4 hours with this family. Child could not stop coughing but otherwise seemed ok. Symptoms started for me 5 days later. I've spent 4 weeks in bed and another 5 weeks on sofa. I'm 44 and fairly fit. This floored me.

Kind of got back but it is definitely not as good as it was. Can now smell bleach and some food cooking but the more subtle smells no. It comes and goes so milk starting to go off the other morning could not smell it but the give away was the bits floating in my tea. Husband did not get that symptom but had excessive bloating, burping and constipation. Symptoms came in waves and the recovery is the same so two weeks ago back in bed felt awful for two days then suddenly felt much better and able to get up and do things again. Also brain felt foggy couldn't remember words that has virtually gone The tiredness is awful

I work in a hospital, don't wipe my shopping or take half the precautions people on Mumsnet seem to take, kids going to school as I'm a keyworker but so far, no Covid in my household. Most of my work mates have had it. I'm wondering if I'm one of those people who have had it but not known. My husband had a bad virus late February. Who knows !?

A friend who lives in a rural area had it very badly. His daughter had come back from university the week before, so presumably she brought it with her.
