FFS even women's running trousers are all about being sexy

SunshineCake · 14/05/2020 16:39

I've just Google's women's running trousers and the first page is all skin tight fucking barely more than tights. So we have to look attractive while running as well?

I'm feeling very hormonal so fully accept I'm being ggrrrrr. But honestly.

Can anyone recommend me something I can run in that doesn't show my shape please ?

And for the police, AIBU to be pissed of at that ^

No I'm not.

This really isn't a male/female gender divide on sexy running clothes.

Running tights are skinny because it's better to run in them like that. I'm the least sexy of runners but prefer running tights and a baggy t-shirt combo.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 14/05/2020 16:52

You could wear leggings with really light shorts, over the top

Redcrayons · 14/05/2020 16:52

They’re much better for running, baggy ones are annoying and sweaty.

I do agree on the annoying advertising, where they primarily show bums. I’m more likely to buy if you show me how big the pockets are not how my area would look if I was a size 8 model.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 14/05/2020 16:59

Tight is better for running

Loose and baggy is annoying & makes you sweat more weirdly in my experience

I take it your not currently a runner?

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 14/05/2020 17:00

Some leggings are definitely designed to look sexy, but I think the tightness is more for comfort and being streamlined. I always wear leggings for exercising because it holds all my flab in and doesn't get caught in any equipment if at the gym or wind if running. I must admit that I do like to feel attractive in my clothes (maybe not necessarily sexy) when I'm exercising just to balance out how the rest of me looks!!

My partner runs and wear skin tight leggings too, although he opts to wear shorts over the top after I told him that it was a little obscene in the bulge region! (sorry for that mental image everyone)

midlifecrash · 14/05/2020 17:02

Men's running leggings are SO not sexy, and the tighter they are and the stupider the pattern the more likely they are to run too close to you [misses point of thread]

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2020 17:05

@TheVeryHungryTortoise DH does the same with the shorts over tights. I wish more men would!

TheChippendenSpook · 14/05/2020 17:06

Nickynacky oh yes it could be the fashion police!

Or just the regular police. I get ranted at on a regular basis just because of my uniform. Grin

iVampire · 14/05/2020 17:06

I once had the pleasure (?) of seeing a male runner in tight sludge-coloured tights with a bright contrasting codpiece.

I have never seen female tights as - um - memorable as those.

AgeLikeWine · 14/05/2020 17:07

Why not run in shorts, OP?

Chocolate1984 · 14/05/2020 17:11

It’s the cooling see through mesh panels on women’s legging I don’t get.

lotusbell · 14/05/2020 17:13

Tikiboo and Lucy Locket Loves are both fabulous

ArkAtEee · 14/05/2020 17:14

I'm not bothered about the tight running trousers, but the thing that annoyed me was when I went to get some next exercise vests with built in support. They've all gone padded and it took a lot of looking to source non-padded ones. I don't care what my tits look like while running and I don't want a pad soaked with sweat next to my skin on a long workout. Angry

ArkAtEee · 14/05/2020 17:14

Some new vests, not next vests.

AuntieStella · 14/05/2020 17:16

Here is an ethical running brand, which has a wide range of sizes (XXS to XXXXXL) and almost identical men's and women's ranges (women have an additional item - Capri length tights, I think that's it, other than being cut differently of course)

contra-movement.com

They do not do wider legs (presumably for performance and comfort reasons) but you could put shorts over the running tights

LaurieFairyCake · 14/05/2020 17:19

I wear skin tight sweaty Betty ones

At a size 16 I ain't 'sexy' in them Grin

zscaler · 14/05/2020 17:22

I don’t think it’s about being sexy - they’re much more practical and comfortable than baggy ones, which are far more likely to chafe, fall down or be a trip hazard.

If you want tracksuit bottoms then search for those specifically, but you may find they don’t do as good a job!

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/05/2020 17:28

Go and have a look at the running jackets if you think the trousers are bad. I had to buy a small man's running jacket because I wanted actual pockets I could put things in and not something shaped around my waist with barely enough pocket space for a hanky and my car keys.

Running leggings need to fit snugly otherwise they catch around your legs. But the jackets? Don't get me started...

AuntieStella · 14/05/2020 17:30

Also, if in doubt, try Wiggle!

You need to scroll to the last section for women's running trousers, but they have three recommendations in the article (the Ronhill ones are the classics that have been around since the 1970s). They'll prob have more in the main shop

guides.wiggle.co.uk/how-find-perfect-running-tights-or-trousers

overripebanana · 14/05/2020 17:34

Ronhill do some OP, you can buy them in John Lewis. Elasticated waist with draw string inside and zip pockets.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 14/05/2020 17:35

Oooh yes Tracksters for non skin tight leggings. But skin tight is better.

It's the black and hot pink combo that drives me mad, that and the padded sports bras. Fucks sake.

SunshineCake · 14/05/2020 17:35

Blinking heck. That's a lot of messages. Thank you very much. I'm going to read through now.

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 14/05/2020 17:42

I'm new to running so did not know that skin tight means it is easier so thank you for that.

Yes, the MN AIBU police.

My mistake was seeing all the lovely slim women in the leggings and I jumped to conclusions. I've been on here too long!

No to shorts as I have horrible legs and right now I am not confident to go out in shorts. I have 3/4 length exercise trousers and feel self conscious in those Sad. Thank you *@Suzanne12 but as my previous comment I think I'll look for full length. Good otherwise as black and not clingy.

We all have to start some where, *@P1nkHeartLovesCake.

OP, you searched 'running trousers' and are outraged at what running trousers look like Hmm. If you searched 'bra' would you be outraged at what came up and demand to know why bras are so skimpy? Google 'track pants' and you will get baggy sports trousers. Learn what things are called and google search for the right thing rather than get outraged at an item of clothing that is designed for sports that you don't happen to like....
