To wish we had been completely wrong

Many of us were trying to warn people to mentally prepare for what was coming at the end of January, early February. Watching with horror at what was unfolding in China it was inevitable a pandemic was hurtling towards us like a freight train, only it was coming at 10mph and was still somewhere off in the distance. Nevertheless it was coming, and nothing could stop it. Any suggestion of this was met with accusations that we were revelling in the drama and being hysterical. The mention that it could linger in the air, was highly contagious and affecting millions was ludicrous and again we were berated and reported because what we said didn’t match the narrative from the news here in the UK.

We were sneered at and accused of scaremongering for even suggesting the possibility of a lockdown or that we would face living with this virus indefinitely. I think I can speak on behalf of all of those when I say we were hoping none of this would happen and that the sneers were for good reason, though this wasn’t meant to be.

This is now our new normality, a new world, again something I had posts reported for because it was a ‘fantastical’ ideology, that we were some frenzied lunatic fringe spreading conspiracy theories and talking about new normals as if we were disciples of David Icke.

How we move forward now will define our civilisation for generations, we are taking tentative steps towards a new set of rules and behaviours. What comes next no one can be sure of, it’s a new lifestyle we must learn to live in and accept. One day there will be a vaccine, a cure, a therapy, a way out. Until then, we carry on, stay safe.

Please do not label those with worries, fears and concerns as Dementors, yes I see those threads and frankly they are despicable and I am embarrassed for you that you openly mock those who have concerns, questions or fears about this virus. Your motivation for having to resort to name calling or compartmentalising us I will never understand, it says a lot about your character.

To those who were mocked, how do you feel now we are over the first wave? I am very relieved that society has stayed glued together for the most part, we are far more resilient than I first anticipated. The deprivation and societal impact will surely unfold as we go on, the economic damage will be immense, the mental health impact will be just as devastating.

I just wish in this instance I had been absolutely wrong and we would all be carrying on with life as I am sure everyone else does. I miss my family, interaction with people at work, being able to walk into a shop straight away and so much more.

Unfortunately OP is a complete drama queen and wants everyone to experience the same misery she is forcing herself through... some of her previous posts are quite hysterical and some hoping for army intervention to keep people in line! She wants the army/police to have 'TOTAL CONTROL' over the populace - seriously OP needs to chill a little bit.

Eg "Wehttam Sat 04-Apr-20 15:22:15
I would feel far safer if the police or army were enforcing lockdown. If nothing more it would shut up the idiots on here who think it’s perfectly fine to disobey the rules. The only way out of this mess is by total control over the populace, and I say bring it on NOW so we can get over this hideous situation sooner rather than later."

tobee · 14/05/2020 17:58

It doesn't sound like you wish you were wrong at all op.

It's the breathtaking arrogance of these people feeling they have to "tell the world" about what's coming. Yes, I know what's coming. I have access to the news media too. Hmm

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/05/2020 18:00

Who actually ran out of food?

Not me. My 'panic buying' extended to a bag of pasta, two tins of tomatoes and a bag of frozen chicken. Things I often keep anyway but had run out of.

I only used the chicken last week. The pasta and one of the tins of tomatoes are still in the cupboard. I most certainly didn't starve, nor did anyone I know. Granted, there were some rather random meals for a while but no-one actually starved, or even went mildly hungry.

itsaweddingone · 14/05/2020 18:00

@Weallhavevalidopinions

That quote actually just made me laugh out loud!

Dementor walks to the shop to get a weekly supply of essential only items and thinks there's going to be the biggest spike ever just because there's a family sat near no-one else having a picnic. How dare they? 1000 extra people could die because of them.

A non dementor person pops to the shops for some bits (not all essential, but some luxuries too) and smiles at seeing a family having an enjoyable afternoon together in the sunshine.

Both people could have seen this coming and predicted it, both might have even prepped for it, but its only the dementors that are sucking the life and soul out of anyone who dares do something a bit different to them.

dibble15 · 14/05/2020 18:45

@dappledthings 🤣🤣

Biscuitbiscuits · 14/05/2020 18:50

Ha! The unabashed hyperbole is astonishing.

How we move forward now will define our civilisation for generations.

A new world.

The smug undertones here and on the screenshots of the posting history are pretty pompous OP. Here's your medal. 🥇

dibble15 · 14/05/2020 18:50

@Smilethoyourheartisbreaking well clearly you don't take it as serious as me. I planned for this last year & love pinto beans so I had some shipped from the US.

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 18:55

Errr...@dibble15.. is that a joke? I'm unsure now

Not often I’m speechless but, yup, I really am. 😱

Snorkelface · 14/05/2020 19:04

How odd is this - the photo looks really familiar, but the date........

To wish we had been completely wrong
ScarfLadysBag · 14/05/2020 19:08

@dibble15 Just as well you did. I went to five different supermarkets the first day of lockdown with my 10 children in tow and we couldn't find pinto beans anywhere! I'll know for next time.

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 19:09

Ahh, phew!

BMW6 · 14/05/2020 19:38

Oh DO give it a bloody rest OP. I'll give you a (slow) handclap if you like.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/05/2020 19:47

Pssst....
this way-

bigwhat · 14/05/2020 19:47

dibble are you going to be able to eat all that before the "best before" dates?!

If not you could consider making it into a piece of modern art I suppose....

SummerHouse · 14/05/2020 19:49

which way?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/05/2020 19:55

Ahem...

I had visions of baking, but have been working quite a lot and honestly the last thing I need is more baking, seeing as I'm the size of a smallish elephant after eating the Brexit chocolate supply,

Apologies to all of those I deprived of yeast and bread flour.

You can check in your local Polish or Turkish shop, they usually carry fresh yeast.

SummerHouse · 14/05/2020 20:01

Thanks @chardonnays

We have made sour dough with no yeast and pizza with self raising flour. It did not end well. I don't want to bake but we have done all the things in the house now so it's that or plan each others murders.

Fresh yeast. Who knew? This thread has actually been helpful after all. Smile

dibble15 · 14/05/2020 20:11

@Snorkelface I was in some local news for my Brexit stash that went unused.

@bigwhat chomped my way through it hence why I need a firetruck to hoist me out through the window.

AlternativePerspective · 14/05/2020 20:18

well, for those who think there were going to be food shortages,I logged on to sainsburys and added two packets (1 kg each) of pasta to my basket. I had an email confirming my order and it said “due to high demand we have been unable to provide all the products you requested but have substituted for other ones where possible.” And then it said, “fusili 1 kg x 2, we sent, fusilli 3 kg x 2.” So instead of 2 kg’s of pasta, I got six. 😱

As for people "literally shaking and sobbing," anyone who does this seriously needs to go and see their GP.

PrivateD00r · 14/05/2020 20:27

Op your posts have always been scaremongering and hysterical. I reported them in the past. Not because I wasn't concerned about the virus, I was on the 'worried' threads from the start. I definitely was concerned. However your hyperbole such as 'children with asthma will be refused treatment and left to die' drove me away from those threads which was a shame as I really enjoyed them otherwise (well your posts combined with all those 'BREAKING NEWS' posts and all the posters betting on how many deaths there would be each day all drove me away).

You really need to calm down.
