to think that this will bring about England as a separate country after this?

Is Boris Johnson the Prime Minister of the UK in name only? He seems to have forgotten about the rest of the UK in his speech as it was mainly about what people can and can't do in England.

Are there police on the border crossings in Wales and Scotland?

This crisis must be playing into the hands of people who would like to see the other countries in the UK as sovereign states recognised by the UN (as Richard Osmond would say)

Personally speaking, I think it would be good to have England as its own country. And good for the other countries as well. We could of course co-operate economically, have freedom of movement and free trade etc.

I'm sorry but writing out this kind of rubbish only serves the Scottish v England type hatred. I find it really childish

I don’t see anywhere that PP said she was Scottish in that post? Why are you assuming that? PP could be in Wales or Northern Ireland.

And this kind of response - yours I mean - would be more effective if you also made similar comments when posters say incredibly anti-Scottish things. Which is littered throughout this thread and many others.

You don’t call English posters childish when they make such comments I’m sure.

And “shock jock”

Lovely. Childish, no?

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 15/05/2020 10:10

There'd be a proper debate about independence if people stopped with the scraping the barrel insults

You mean the anti-Scottish insults and remarks, yes? Made largely by English people?

overworkedandstressed · 15/05/2020 10:14

Nice speech but you've totally missed out the parts where we have thrown shades at the scottish . Which is part of the problem between us in the first place. Scotland are no worse than us when it comes to trading insults.
Agree with pp how do you know the poster was scottish.
As for shock jock I may be wrong but is Jock not an insult to Scots?
Nice try but I feel it's fell a little flat

StoorieHoose · 15/05/2020 10:19

The other emerging factor is Scottish Labour

Hahahahahahaha Scottish Labour hahahhahahaha

BerryCatHolly · 15/05/2020 10:23

Shock jock is an american phrase - "a disc jockey on a talk-radio show who expresses opinions in a deliberately offensive or provocative way" (if you google it)

It's not about Scots. Don't think I've ever seen it used in a derogatory fashion towards Scots either, but thanks for trying that line.

Maybe I did assume the PP was Scottish, my mistake. My point stands that saying English are X or Y stirs up hatred between nations. Particularly Scottish and English as that's where most insults get traded in the context of Scotland wanting to be independent.

I agree all nations need to stop trading insults. Including English towards Scottish.

Thanks for the nit picking though, it illustrates my point about why its hard to have a decent discussion in the first place. I think its pretty obvious the sentiment of my post was people need to stop the name calling, focus on proper debate and good luck to Scots or any nation that wants independence. But knock yourself out trying to bully out people trying to discuss the subject and twist my post into something offensive when it really is quite the opposite.

Tonz · 15/05/2020 10:24

Shock Jock!!! Really. Your whole post is another example of English arrogance glossing over the insults fired at us, assuming a poster was from Scotland and thinking we are too stupid to notice the Shock Jock comment.
You away and have a wee read over your post and tell me I'm wrong

StoorieHoose · 15/05/2020 10:26

Youv e never heard the term Nick being used for the Scots

Aye ok then

StoorieHoose · 15/05/2020 10:26

Jock not Nick

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 15/05/2020 10:35

Is this a joke?

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 15/05/2020 10:36

people need to stop the name calling

Indeed they do. Let’s start with “shock jock” why don’t we.

Doubletrouble99 · 15/05/2020 10:37

I've only read the first page and this one but as a Scot, living in Scotland.
I watch NS every day, I listen to all the Scottish news and I can say that NS's handling of this epidemic really isn't all that. We have a worse situation in Nursing Homes and a BBC investigation revealed that one delegate to a Nike conference in mid Feb. in an Edinburgh Hotel infected 25 others and wasn't reported to the public! Should have locked down weeks earlier, did they tell the UK Gov.? Wasn't included in the figures initially, only the ones who stayed in Scotland (8) were ever included!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend

This made me laugh

overworkedandstressed · 15/05/2020 10:50

It's a bit late to now say English should stop insulting Scotland when your original post was only directed at scotland. I've heard the word Jock referring to Scottish people.

joydivisionovengloves1 · 15/05/2020 10:56

Nicola loves scoring points over Boris, but doesn't mind him paying for the Scottish workers furlough though 🤔

0/10 for creativity.

Blondie1980s · 15/05/2020 11:01

Firstly England is its own country. Like It Wales ,Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Each nation has their own parliaments for country specific needs. What people need in England and Wales need can be very different due to populations and economic ( without getting hugely in-depth and political )

The uk government for 9/10 of the situations have always addressed the country with more towards being just England. It's a fact that has been hooping for many years and won't ever really stop because they are situated in England. (That's not England bashing btw is just fact ) the media is always England first too.

Now coming back to this covid announcements it has been made clear by all devolved parties there had not been enough communication between each parliaments. Therefore as the R rates are also different they have to do what is best for their own nations. They cannot and will not be forced to move before it is considered safe.
London might be ready to move forward but if the other nations aren't due to higher R rate ( I'm making it a lot more simple then it really is here ) then why should they be forced to pander to BJs movements.
If they want us to move togetherness one then shouldn't he come with a timescale for all of us not just England. And one that is safe to do so.

Jazzled · 15/05/2020 11:01

In all fairness I do think she means the term "shock jock" is what she hasn't heard as being insulting to Scots because of its origin.

However, that said the use of that term in the conversation was either deliberate (knowing that defense could be used Halo ) or incredibly ignorant.

The assumption that the poster was Scottish is where I gave up. The fact that assumption was made really speaks for itself.

Tonz · 15/05/2020 11:20

Oh is Boris paying. Thanks Boris very generous of you

UnspeakableBode · 15/05/2020 11:29

Im English but live in Scotland and have done for 8 years. After the last election where the tories did well in my home area, a normally l staunch labour area which has had nothing but trouble from tory governments. I decided that I would rather live in an independent Scotland than a tory controlled Uk. The way the governments has handled this crisis has only increased my desire to live in an independent Scotland where the Tory party will NEVER rule.

UnspeakableBode · 15/05/2020 11:41

Also in response to whether it was confusing that England and Scotland have different rules I think Sturgeon answered that question best when asked by a journalist. She said she doesnt think that will be becuase people living in Scotland know they live in Scotland!

chomalungma · 15/05/2020 12:05

She said she doesnt think that will be becuase people living in Scotland know they live in Scotland

True

But what about people living in England. Do they know Scotland has different rules if they hope to travel there?

She can talk about the message that Scottish people living in Scotland receive.

@BerryCatHolly

'The other emerging factor is Scottish Labour / Tories / Lib Dems emerging to offer devo max and see if voters prefer that choice.'

This tactic was notoriously used in 2014, it was a lie used to gain No votes. Scottish people won't be fooled by this a second time.

They called it the Vow.

I hope they don't realise otherwise this is just selfish idiocy:

I thought it was paid from taxes that the entirety of the UK pays? Are only English taxes being used for it?

Tonz · 15/05/2020 12:54

I pay tax thanks and am still working along with every other key worker in Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland This is the problem with the UK it's only ever England's money to them
