Posting for traffic but hoping this will be helpful to others...

Trying to find family movies that appeal to everyone is proving tricky. There’s me, DH, DD (16) and DS (13).

Other than Harry Potter DD doesn’t like fantasy films. DS can’t bear a Rom com (although did like Just Go With It).

We’ve watched and enjoyed in the last couple of weeks:

Castaway
Happy Gilmore
Forrest Gump
Truman Show

Historically we’ve watched and enjoyed movies like Big, Mrs Doubtfire, Cool Runnings, the new Jumanji (not seen the second one)

So please hit me with your recommendations and thanks so much in advance Smile

iklboo · 13/05/2020 17:59

We watched Dora The Explorer film the other night. We started watching it ironically (DS is 14) but it was actually not terrible

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 13/05/2020 18:00

Oh yes iklboo although that's a thread of its own BlushGrin

GrouchyKiwi · 13/05/2020 18:00

Ah, missed the bit about no Fantasy. Disregard Willow, then, though it's fantastic.

Whale Rider

WonderWebbs · 13/05/2020 18:01

missed off Paul, a bit naughty in places but funny.

Darcydashwood · 13/05/2020 18:04

Men in Black, Pixels (presume you like Adam Sandler as you’ve watched Happy Gilmore!), Back to the Future trilogy, Indiana Jones trilogy (I don’t acknowledge the 4th one 😂).

WonderWebbs · 13/05/2020 18:26

@darcydashwood
Missed Men in Black

We watched A League Of Their Own the other night, my two loved it (DD nearly 14 DS 10).

They love Hot Fuzz. DS will spend any day we eat pasta wandering round the house shouting "It's alright Andy, it's just bolognese!".

We had a bit of an 80s retrospective at our caravan last summer, they really loved Batteries Not Included, Short Circuit, the Back To The Future trilogy, Stand By Me, The Breakfast Club, Willow, and Splash.

We bought Onward digitally to watch on the weekend and it was great.

The new Maleficent Mistress of Evil is great, and stylish enough that it might even win over your DD. Watch the first one first if you've not seen it though, they're both on Disney+.

Other things we've enjoyed lately - Avatar, The Legend of Tarzan, 50 First Dates, 10 Things I Hate About You.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 13/05/2020 18:53

My two age 14 and 12 have watched :

Instant family
Fighting with my family
Ferris Bueller
Top Secret ( one of my all time favourites )

The Right Stuff ( I'd forgotten what a great film that is)

First Man

We've also tried a few old classic movies on them

The Birds went down well ( mainly because ether were laughing at the special effects)

North by North West - they were gripped

School for Scoundrels

The Lavender Hill mob

My 12 year old DD enjoyed Jane Eyre

We've watched loads together during lock down

Fluffybutter · 13/05/2020 21:32

Just watched Dora as dd used to live the programme.
Bit cringy but an easy watch and amusing .
It’s quite tongue in cheek

YouTheCat · 13/05/2020 21:51

Watching Top Secret now. Grin

mnahmnah · 13/05/2020 21:54

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 13/05/2020 22:16

All the old ones - Rocky, Karate Kid, Die Hard, Back to the Future , The Goonies

Doggodogington · 13/05/2020 22:31

Ace Ventura
Big trouble in Little China
Ready player one
Super 8

Doggodogington · 13/05/2020 22:31

Tron

randomchap · 13/05/2020 22:32

Galaxy Quest

chunkyriverfish · 13/05/2020 22:46

We watched Uncle Buck which my two sons loved (years 12 and 9)

Salt (currently on Netflix)
Hidden Figures
Murder on the Orient Express
Jaws

We are watching Sneakers tomorrow which I loved as a teen, ah Robert Redford on google play so it costs me £2.49 to rent.

chunkyriverfish · 13/05/2020 22:48

The Equaliser (also on Netflix) but it is a 15, so I don't know how you feel about that.

We look at IMDB (international movie data base) parents' guide to see what the film contains. Ds2 more worried about naked women and being mortified than violence but he is 14.

YouTheCat · 13/05/2020 22:49

Ready Player One is on Prime. It's really good.

waterandlemonjuice · 13/05/2020 22:53

Paddington 1&2 are lovely, totally heart warming, not just for little kids
Ditto Sean the sheep movie
Guardians of the galaxy
Argo, although it’s a bit gory

QueenArnica · 16/05/2020 10:06

Thanks everyone, really appreciate it.

We watched Fighting with my family last night and loved it! Smile
