Italy in July

Hello there. OH is supposed to be going to Italy for the last week of July to attend a wedding. Personally I don't think this will be possible. He is accusing me of just being a killjoy because I don't want him to go (I don't, I hate it).

So aibu to think that there's no way this is going ahead, in Italy, in July. He's even started putting holiday things in the case ready.

Obviously we don't know for sure yet, but I would think it's unlikely he'll be able to go unless perhaps deemed necessary travel. I've just been trying to change my holiday plans to Italy in early August to next year as I've decided that regardless of whether we're allowed to travel, I probably don't want to anyway.

Is the wedding definitely going ahead?

He may well be forced into 14 days' quarantine on his return, whether he likes it or not.

The bride and groom haven't cancelled anything yet. I'm assuming this is because they're waiting due to getting money back etc.

Highly unlikely, he may have to quarantine there for 14 days and back here for 14 days if it does go ahead so hope he has plenty of spare leave or time available

FCO are still currently advising against travel so his insurance would likely be invalid too, even if the flights are running if this remains in place

Unless Italy changes its laws, he will have to arrive 2 weeks before the wedding to go into quarantine. He’ll also need to quarantine for 2 weeks when he comes back to the UK. I’m not convinced they’ll even let him in the country tbh. www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/coronavirus

Thanks everyone. I myself have a holiday booked for August which I fully intend to postpone until next year.

He’ll be in quarantine in Italy too for 14 days on arrival, so he needs to consider that. And he’ll need to show it’s essential travel, letter, etc and may get turned back.

Seems a big chunk of time for a wedding. It might be more relaxed by then, but he should be prepared that it won’t.

It's still 9 weeks away, and a lot can change in 9 weeks.

At this point no-one knows what the situation will be.

Let him be excited about it if he wants to. No doubt it will be a huge disappointment for everyone if it's cancelled.

I'm going with no. I'd be surprised if the wedding was even allowed to take place.

We are booked for September. I knew we wouldn't be going weeks ago. International travel is going to be very difficult especially now that the new quarantine rules will be enforced.

Has he even thought about needing to quarantine for 2 weeks and all??! You might be a killjoy in his eyes. But he is being unrealistic for sure...

No one knows. It’s not worth the mental effort trying to double guess what might happen. Be sensible- don’t spend £££ on a wedding outfit but similarly what harm is there in packing or googling nice restaurants there?
