To go to Whitby beach tomorrow

BubblyBarbara · 12/05/2020 18:31

I’ve gone to Whitby every year for the past decade or so and I’m missing it dearly. I’ve read Boris’s PDF and it says you are allowed to drive any distance to “open space” from tomorrow so my plan is to go to Whitby and spend the day on the beach - social distancing of course.

But I did a search on Facebook about car parks etc (it’s ok the parking inspectors are furloughed so I can park anywhere I like) and found lots of angry posts on local groups about how the people of Whitby don’t want people coming into their town yet Confused

It’s legal for me to go tomorrow but the locals don’t want us to go.. who is BU here? I say the law is more important than what the locals say.

Well, it's going to be quite chilly and cloudy on the South Coast this coming weekend, so that should keep them away!

Booboodisney · 13/05/2020 14:23

@FleecyMoo 😹 Christ bet you’re fun at parties.

Legoandloldolls · 13/05/2020 14:26

Did you go OP? I dont live to far a drive from the coast ( dont worry NOT Cornnwall 😂) I can easily park up on the seafront and have a walk and go home. However the toilet facilities are a concern.

I could go without the loo for five hours, not sure my kids could. That's the major thing putting me off driving to exercise.

FleecyMoo · 13/05/2020 14:26

And I bet you don't get invited to any. Never mind eh? Maybe you could gatecrash a massive get together in a big city and travel there on an overcrowded tube? Should work out really well for you Wink

YouTheCat · 13/05/2020 14:27

OP didn't go because their piles were playing up. Grin

AmateurDad · 13/05/2020 14:29

Well, where do you live?

Pixiefringe · 13/05/2020 14:35

I hope you went OP and enjoyed yourself. Locals dont own the place.

No they don't Pixie nor do they have the infrastructure to support a massive influx of visitors just now, or the ability to deal with a rise in numbers of new cases. How do you think the virus spread so quickly around the world in the first place? Because people travelled around.

Lockdown is frustrating, but the attitude of I will travel anywhere I like and sod anyone else is so very self entitled and selfish Hmm

FleecyMoo

Erm, I'm 25 and read The Observer so your insults have missed the mark somewhat. Do you read The Sun. Or perhaps you just look at the pictures?

A quick search says you’re telling porky pies Wink

Figgygal · 13/05/2020 15:02

I saw Whitby referenced in an article in the Guardian today specifically around the concerns of coastal residents and an influx of people from outside of the area even the local MP is saying not to travel to these places.

You know it’s not sensible you know it’s not fair to the local residents so did you go anyway?

YouTheCat · 13/05/2020 15:04

For the third time, the OP didn't go because of her piles. Will nobody think of the poor OP's arse?

TheGreatWave · 13/05/2020 15:23

It is also absolutely freezing today.

DrinkVeneer · 13/05/2020 15:28

Fml this comically named OP was on a different thread talking about how her vagine smells meaty and now she's on about her hoop-grapes.

DrinkVeneer · 13/05/2020 15:33

BubblyBarbara

I can smell mine if I nip back into the bathroom shortly after I’ve had a wee to change the toilet rolls or whatever. It’s not unpleasant though, more a sort of thick musky meaty smell.

mrsbyers · 13/05/2020 15:34

What are you going to do if you need the toilet ?

Itsywitsyteenyweeny · 13/05/2020 15:49

I live in a seaside town just down the coast from Whitby. The local council has issued a statement saying our towns are not open for business, and asking day trippers to stay away for now. Cafes, car parks, toilets, amusements, ice cream kiosks, chippies, all shut. Even the local takeaways who are usually open, have decided to close for the weekend, to try and stop anyone from sticking around if they do show up. So if you do decide to visit, bring your own food, drink and portapotti. And don't park over my driveway Smile

CrystalTipped · 13/05/2020 16:35

I hope you went OP and enjoyed yourself. Locals dont own the place.

No, we don't @Pixiefringe. We just keep it clean and tidy up after tourists dump their rubbish, maybe thinking the seagulls are magical litter fairies...

Never mind all the retired elderly people who live at the coast and deserve to be protected, it's all about you after all.

Pixiefringe · 13/05/2020 16:59

Lol such venom for stating a fact.

Utterlydespairing · 13/05/2020 17:08

There’s nothing I hate more than ‘local people’

I honestly would not give a shit if tourists visited where I live.

Fruitytooty12 · 13/05/2020 17:27

My elderly great grandparents live in a seaside resort. Some attitudes are worrying

csigeek · 13/05/2020 17:28

The locals don’t want the added strain on their services, I know it’s unlikely but if you had an accident you’d be a burden.

Oscarsdaddy · 13/05/2020 17:30

YANBU

I’m getting rather pissed off to be honest with all these social media posts saying think like ‘Cornwall is closed’ They Lake District is closed’ and General shit like that

OK you may live in lovely places but you’ve absolutely no right to tell people not to come to the county you live in when the Government say different.

This sort of think just boils my piss.

lloydee1983 · 13/05/2020 17:33

Can go, just keep distance etc from ppl not in your household

cakecoffeelove22 · 13/05/2020 17:34

I live in whitby.... please dont come. We will still be here when lock down is over. There are no toilets open. No where to eat or drink, the traffic wardens are working. Our virus numbers are low. Please understand it isn't that we dont want you to return. I work in the hospitality sector. Just not right now Smile
