I'm on furlough but hopefully not long know - I mean who know but loosing my marbles here a bit so keep telling myself it's not long now. I work in London and takes me a 20 minute train ride to get to work. Train is packed usually, not sure what will happen after things are back to normal ish ... my question is to Londoners/ London commuters, will you be wearing a mask on your commute?

Yes

BlooperReel · 12/05/2020 10:50

Working from home at the moment, but yes, when i go back I will be wearing one

KitchenConfidential · 12/05/2020 10:51

Yes. Especially considering the government guidance is to do so. Why would you not?

HummingBirddd · 12/05/2020 11:12

I don't know why someone wouldn't @KitchenConfidential I'm just asking out of curiosity what others will be doing 🤷🏻‍♀️

I use the bus rather than the tube, but have not wearing one on the bus or at work.

Jupiters · 12/05/2020 11:19

I've not seen any masks available since this all started... Where are we supposed to get these masks from?

onemorepringle · 12/05/2020 11:20

I also wonder where we are meant to get them. The guidance says use an old t shirt but we don’t have any unwanted clothes as we did a big Marie Kondo clear out a few months before lockdown and just don’t have anything to cut up.

onemorepringle · 12/05/2020 11:20

And I won’t be going on public transport at all as wearing a mask makes me panic and I assume if I don’t wear one I’ll get abuse.

KitchenConfidential · 12/05/2020 11:22

Etsy has tons of lovely fabric masks available in lots of designs at reasonable prices if anyone is looking.

lifestooshort123 · 12/05/2020 11:23

Order cotton bandanas and hair scrunchies off amazon and fold them (on YouTube), no sewing required.

Ardnassa · 12/05/2020 11:24

Yes absolutely. Bought a good mask from Etsy and there are loads available there.

WhateverHappenedToMe · 12/05/2020 11:26

Yes absolutely - but I expect to be working from home until at least the end of July, if not longer.

OneMomentInHistory · 12/05/2020 11:26

I'm not commuting in at the moment, but I certainly would wear a mask if I was.

For those asking focal to get a mask: local facebook groups, crafting groups, marketplace, ebay, etsy are full of people making cotton masks. Or get a bandana, or a snood. The advice is specifically face coverings, not medical PPE.

onemorepringle · 12/05/2020 11:28

Buying one mask won’t help you unless you’ll definitely manage to wash it every day

Macncheeseballs · 12/05/2020 11:31

Is cycling an option

Amazon.
eBay.
Etsy.
Bright Products ( on the high St).

Or you could make your own from a free pattern.

When I have to go back in I will - yes. I bought washable, reusable ones you can disinfect too.

Macncheeseballs · 12/05/2020 11:38

Corner shops are selling masks

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 11:42

yes I will

(and in school)

helpfulperson · 12/05/2020 11:44

It's a face cover not a mask. Scarf or buff or similar is fine.

Carolduckingbaskin · 12/05/2020 11:44

For a mask to be effective isn’t it supposed to be changed on a regular basis? Are we all supposed to get lots of these handmade masks and wash them?

Lol at the snood - it was about 23 here at the weekend, god knows what the tube will be like - I imagine the sweat produced from wearing them would be more dangerous than the not covering of your face to be honest.

No idea what a good solution is though

Carolduckingbaskin · 12/05/2020 11:45

I did see a woman at Sainsbury’s with a mask that matched her outfit - and was impressed... yellow shoes, yellow top, yellow facemask Grin

LemonPudding · 12/05/2020 11:47

The only reason they say face coverings and not masks is that they are trying to stop people buying proper masks. Well, tough. We've bought proper ones and that's what we'll be using.

Home made ones are not as good.

parietal · 12/05/2020 11:50

yes, of course. home made & washable.

Fernie6491 · 12/05/2020 11:59

I know that they aren't surgically secure, but I've made these, fairly simple masks, two each for me and DH - one on and one in the wash, when we go shopping. they are easy to rinse and dry very quickly.

we've had a few favourable comments in Tesco!
