To ask for my money back

Way back at the start of the year, I booked and pay for my son's birthday.

Its a local business and his birthday was in April. When the lockdown started, we spoke and I said we were postponing his birthday party.

However, since then my partner has lost his job and the lockdown is much longer than I thought.

Its over £100 and we could really do with the money now, but I don't want to put the final nail in the coffin so to speak, also its one of the things that has been keeping my son going knowing he is going to have his party after all this has ended, we might be able to do something, but it won't be want he wants.

We can just about manage on what we have, so its not a need need basis (at the moment) I just can't decide whether to wait it out till maybe July and beyond or whether to try and get my money back.

Added to this, we paid in cash, so to get the money back we would have to go in and get it

YABU. Think of the money as already spent; it would have been anyway if lockdown hadn’t happened.

Thats the way I have been looking at it, and you are right, but also, the earliest its going to happen is July and if my partner can't find work that money might be the only thing we have keeping food on the table.
I am wondering if I should wait for a few more weeks.

The company has already probably spent it. Like PP said think of it as spent money.
