I'm just starting a new job/ promotion as a key worker, and trying to work the logistics.Yes schools are open to me as a key worker but there's no after school or breakfast club open, my Childminder's not replying to my texts and she has my funding for the term. What am i supposed to do?

I’m having the same problem as the school my son goes to is doing shorter hours. I haven’t been able to go in because of it as I’m a single mum with no support

myself2020 · 12/05/2020 07:01

As a single parent of young children, yes its pretty much impossible . otherwise, with 2 parents or with older kids, its relentless but possible.

likeafishneedsabike · 12/05/2020 07:17

Childminders have been instructed by the govt to open with immediate effect (It’s in the 60 page document). Obvs some will choose not to open, but she needs to communicate her plan with you.

WrongKindOfFace · 12/05/2020 07:31

Same issue here. Both having to work shorter hours and juggle it between us. Fuck knows what we’ll do if there isn’t any childcare open in the school holidays (assuming schools go back and are no longer open in the holidays). Employer goodwill only lasts so long.

Have not found a child minder willing to take on a new child at present.

SnuggyBuggy · 12/05/2020 07:33

If your child is genuinely too young to be home alone then yes it's not possible.

dontdisturbmenow · 12/05/2020 07:36

Look for another childminder?

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/05/2020 07:37

YANBU.

Tanith · 12/05/2020 08:18

Childminders cannot open until 1st June at the earliest. They made a mistake with the Government guidance yesterday.

We can only take the children of key workers until then.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 12/05/2020 08:35

Op is a key worker.
