To despair that this government are the ones 'leading' us through this

It's been a total shitshow

Boris: "go to work from Monday"
Raab: "it starts on Wednesday"
Boris: "you can meet one person outside as long as you are 2m apart"
Raab: "you can meet two people, eg your parents"

Meanwhile VE Day and bank holiday drunken groups everywhere will result in a spike in a few weeks. Work starts today but without any specified jobs apart from two examples! But another gov minister says it starts on Wednesday.

The guidance document will be released this afternoon- after employees have already gone into work. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

No mention of wearing masks on public transport. No mention of over 70's / vulnerable / pregnant women either. No mention of how the fuck these tests are going to be ramped up after their one day over 100k -coincidentally on Hancock's self-imposed deadline. Oh and unlimited exercise starts on Wednesday.

Total disregard for the other UK nations. A vague slogan which contradicts Scotland, Wales & NI's "Stay home". No guidance if you live in Wales but work in England for example.

France has a lower proportional and actual death rate and their restrictions have been incredibly clear. Macron initially admitted to the nation he'd got his approach wrong, apologised and rectified it. He treated the French people like adults. Merkel is putting us to shame. In the past UK leaders like Gordon Brown, or even dare I say it Theresa May would have made an effort for forge some global leadership. Not so for our arrogant island thinking cabinet.

This government are beyond useless. Their approach is clearly herd immunity whilst pretending it is not.

I'm fed up with the daily spin briefings where "the people" get to ask safe questions and ministers just reel off all the measures they say they're taking without actually addressing what matters- the fact that we have second worst death in the world, the worst in Europe, a fraction of the test and trace capacity compared to countries doing well, and not enough PPE.

This is not good enough for a G7 nation. Our leaders are second only in ineptitude to Trump, and I despair.

Have a read of Isabel Hardman's book 'Why we get the wrong politicians'. It applies to all parties, and explains a lot.

Freddiefox · 11/05/2020 11:00

Yes I agree with you. They are incompetent to say the least. It’s farcical. Don’t leave it to the government to look after you. Look after yourself

x2boys · 11/05/2020 11:02

Well.Nicola Sturgeon was,nt exactly clear either ,you must stay at home but can go out and exercise more than once a day .

Electromagneticpulse · 11/05/2020 11:03

Just give it about 3 weeks, the infection and death rates are going to shoot up again, mark my words. Shock

Willyoujustbequiet · 11/05/2020 11:06

Agree. Its an absolute farce.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks when infections explode they will be forced to act responsibly.

Lostvoiced · 11/05/2020 11:06

There's a weird atmosphere in this country that nobody seems to think the government is supposed to care about the people.
So when they bugger up leading to thousands of deaths, the nation seems to have collectively shrugged.

I dont have any solution for that, it just makes me sad. I feel like the bar is way too low.

ADreamOfGood · 11/05/2020 11:09

Then do something, change things. Lobby for proportional representation so we can get rid of FPTP which is destroying our democracy. Join a political party, or a lobby group and act for change.
Organise in your local community, to ensure those not helped by our leaders are supported and do not suffer.
Exercise your right to change things, and get the leaders you want.

But don't moan and do nothing.

Caselgarcia · 11/05/2020 11:12

Agree with PP, stop moaning about and do something about it then!

ChimChimminey · 11/05/2020 11:53

Who said I wasn't doing anything about it?!! @ADreamofGood @Caselgarcia ?? Why the assumptions that I'm "doing nothing"? I am a member of a political party and a very active one, and yes I have lobbied tirelessly for PR. FFS Hmm

I'm also commenting on this forum.

The two aren't mutually exclusive you know, otherwise you activists wouldn't be on here commenting.

@x2boys I'd say Sturgeon's advice was A LOT clearer than Johnson's. Stay home apart from exercising. Pretty simple.
Not "stay alert" whatever the fuck that means, "go to work today, I mean Wednesday, but don't use public transport, oh and there's no childcare, and only certain industries, but we haven't told you which ones....."

MintyChapstick · 11/05/2020 11:59

What has Sturgeon got to do with it? That’s the default of Boris’ fans isn’t it? Blame Sturgeon, Corbyn, Labour, Lefties, The EU etc.

It’s disturbing how many dim people we have in this country.

Utterlydespairing · 11/05/2020 12:01

I’d rather this goverment than any other. Labour would be a shambles. Sturgeon’s default position is ‘opposite of what the goverment says’ and that’s the same for the rest.

CSIblonde · 11/05/2020 12:01

Just because they're in positions which give them status & power doesn't mean they know what they're doing. If you believe that.... Big musk take. Huge

Utterlydespairing · 11/05/2020 12:02

It’s disturbing how many dim people we have in this country

You’re right. The threads about not understanding a very clear statement shows this

ADreamOfGood · 11/05/2020 12:04

I am in no way an activist, so you're barking up the wrong tree there.
Nor were there any drunken bank holidayers here. People are observing social distancing well in my area.

So many new posters just moaning and moaning, anyone would think thickhead politrolls agitators had actually managed to organise themselves.

If you are actually doing something- good. But stop moaning.
And YAdefinintelyBU to just moan.

dontdisturbmenow · 11/05/2020 12:07

Their approach is clearly herd immunity whilst pretending it is not
Of course it is, how is it pretending not to be? How many times can it be repeated that's it about protecting the nhs so it can cope with numbers?

I don't get why people act all surprise, what do they expect? It's either we stay in complete confinement until a vaccinia available, assuming one can be developed reliably. Which of course, would ruin the economy and people would then moan about their financial situation.

Or you indeed lead herd immunity and all that matters is the R so if it remains low more, we can be more relaxed, if it increases, we are back to stricter rules. It's really not hard to process!

Caselgarcia · 11/05/2020 12:07

Perhaps for completeness, it would have been wise to mention what actions you are taking. Instead of yet another post complaining about the actions of others.

CSIblonde · 11/05/2020 12:07

Aargh phone trouble & posted before finished... *big mistake, not mustake!
I've worked for so many incredibly wealthy, supposedly clever people in charge of million pound budgets who were utterly useless at their job: their managers & admin carried them & did the real decision making.

ilovesooty · 11/05/2020 12:09

No way was that a very clear statement

Utterlydespairing · 11/05/2020 12:10

It was

TheFuckingDogs · 11/05/2020 12:11

Well said OP! This is the only come back some people have at the moment - their defence is thin on the ground 😏

TobyDeLaris · 11/05/2020 12:11

Macron initially admitted to the nation he'd got his approach wrong, apologised and rectified it
Did he? God i can't imagine Boris admitting he'd got something wrong.
YANBU

PhoneLock · 11/05/2020 12:13

I was hoping for some clear guidance. Like this, for example...
