To despair that this government are the ones 'leading' us through this

It's been a total shitshow

Boris: "go to work from Monday"
Raab: "it starts on Wednesday"
Boris: "you can meet one person outside as long as you are 2m apart"
Raab: "you can meet two people, eg your parents"

Meanwhile VE Day and bank holiday drunken groups everywhere will result in a spike in a few weeks. Work starts today but without any specified jobs apart from two examples! But another gov minister says it starts on Wednesday.

The guidance document will be released this afternoon- after employees have already gone into work. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

No mention of wearing masks on public transport. No mention of over 70's / vulnerable / pregnant women either. No mention of how the fuck these tests are going to be ramped up after their one day over 100k -coincidentally on Hancock's self-imposed deadline. Oh and unlimited exercise starts on Wednesday.

Total disregard for the other UK nations. A vague slogan which contradicts Scotland, Wales & NI's "Stay home". No guidance if you live in Wales but work in England for example.

France has a lower proportional and actual death rate and their restrictions have been incredibly clear. Macron initially admitted to the nation he'd got his approach wrong, apologised and rectified it. He treated the French people like adults. Merkel is putting us to shame. In the past UK leaders like Gordon Brown, or even dare I say it Theresa May would have made an effort for forge some global leadership. Not so for our arrogant island thinking cabinet.

This government are beyond useless. Their approach is clearly herd immunity whilst pretending it is not.

I'm fed up with the daily spin briefings where "the people" get to ask safe questions and ministers just reel off all the measures they say they're taking without actually addressing what matters- the fact that we have second worst death in the world, the worst in Europe, a fraction of the test and trace capacity compared to countries doing well, and not enough PPE.

This is not good enough for a G7 nation. Our leaders are second only in ineptitude to Trump, and I despair.

Well all I can say is thank FUCK it's not Jeremy and Diane leading us through this crisis..
It doesn't even bear thinking about.

Tanith · 11/05/2020 16:09

They're just trying to divert you.
While you're busy talking about party memberships, you're not talking about the absolute shambles that has resulted from last night's non-announcement and the subsequent attempts at clarification that have simply added to the confusion.

The Scottish economy can go down the swanny because they always have the English economy to fall back on. They can afford to stay in lock down for longer.

Yes I think this is worth considering. The relationship between lock down and furlough is interesting. Sunak is aware of diminishing funds and needing to end furlough. It will stop for everyone at the same time so Scottish companies will face same cliff edge.

Yeah. Boris and his lot have done a far better job... Hmm

Abacus Abbot would have had fun announcing the stats.

"Yesterday we did 4 billion three hundred and eleventy trillion tests!!" Yes Diane of course you did. 🤔

Tanith · 11/05/2020 17:06

That's about the 4th time I've seen the Corbyn and Abbott comment this afternoon on SM from one bot or another.

ChimChimminey · 11/05/2020 18:02

They are like a broken record @Tanith, harking back to Corbyn's Labour as a distraction from the very current life-endangering shit show.

Priti Patel?

PhilCornwall1 · 11/05/2020 18:57

@Pumperthepumper

Hell no, Priti was a hell of a lot worse than that. I think her defining moment was telling us shoplifting was down. Hmmm now I wonder how that's happened Priti!!!

Johnson is speaking now. Answering questions on LBC.

VillageFete · 11/05/2020 19:29

It’s like watching a sketch show. What the fuck is going on? “Stay at home if you can, go to work if you have no alternative”
It just sounds so backwards and he is so fucking inept.

He’s a terrible “leader” and a shit public speaker. Chris Whitty looks suitably ashamed to be standing next to him. Pathetic. How can anyone support this shit show? Angry

BigNoise · 11/05/2020 19:39

Yanbu

pontypridd · 11/05/2020 19:53

To those people who say ‘do something, lobby for proportional representation’ etc - what do you actually mean?

There have been so many petitions that have had 100s of thousands of signatures, totally ignored.

The people have no voice. Look at what this government has done to take the little voice we had away. Illegally they silence us.

Yet you say stop moaning and do something.

Give us a step by step plan.

CSIblonde · 12/05/2020 14:12

If you've ever worked for that demographic, their response is the usual panicky mess. In a commercial environment, the bumbling would have been sorted by the next level down: who'd mutter their usual FFS while doing their usual 'sense check' & producing in hours, a lucid, workable version of the clear as mud waffle. Whoever is drafting then sense checking Boris's speeches, they're too long & waffley (made up word). In which case, the majority of your audience, who need a step by step, short, sharp instructions style, get hopelessly confused, while around a third think OK, I think I get it but it's kind of vague & there are holes I could pick if I could be arsed .
