Waiting for some guidance from the PM.... and... nothing! What does any of it mean? I'm not one to have any political leanings in any direction, just think we need a bit more of an actual plan 🙋🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Is there not enough threads on this in the coronavirus topic for you?

Hedgehog44 · 10/05/2020 22:31

I think the plan going forward was pretty straight forward albeit all conjecture.

Twinklegreen · 10/05/2020 22:36

Well excuse me for not being on Mumsnet at all times..there was I thinking it was a vehicle for us women to chat with each other at a time when we could freely speak after we had put our LO's to bed Hmm

maybe I'm just an analytic personality! the overarching message was quite clear, I agree! The specifics are left quite open to interpretation...

I agree with you. I think this whole situation is making people even more hostile on here! Hopefully they'll be more details tomorrow.

Twinklegreen · 10/05/2020 22:47

Thank you Costa OST's

Did you watch it?

Damn you auto correct! ... 'Costacosta'

I understood it all perfectly thank you, I don't think I said I had any trouble understanding it

OP posts:
Twinklegreen · 10/05/2020 22:51

I said I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get a bit more specific direction

You said “what does any of it mean”

It means exactly what he said and I thought it was pretty obvious. What more did you expect him to say?

bombaychef · 11/05/2020 00:24

Specifics will be sent to industry etc by Weds

ALongHardWinter · 11/05/2020 01:55

Why so much vitriol aimed at OP?!

EasyPleasey · 11/05/2020 02:11

I found it vague and waffley too OP. I was hoping for a release of lockdown.

Pixxie7 · 11/05/2020 02:19

He was deliberately ambiguous I don’t think there is a plan, but he had to say something to try and appease everyone.

LifeIsAPotato · 11/05/2020 04:48

I completely agree with you OP. I felt the same after watching it. I always seem to come away with more questions than answers after watching the lockdown updates. Especially yesterday.

Monty27 · 11/05/2020 04:52

FFS OP doesn't deserve a battering for sourcing others' opinions.
This place is going to shit.
OP ignore them. We're not all bullies. It's a salient question.

ilovesooty · 11/05/2020 04:55

I don't see any reason to have a go at the OP either.

OkMaybeNot · 11/05/2020 04:55

It is deliberately vague.

I think they want the cautious portion of society to think about going out and they want people who've been flouting the rules to say fuck it and go full steam.

They want a quick boost to the economy and a second wave of infection. They told us this back in March when they held up a graph showing a series of peaks, only that's never been mentioned again.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/05/2020 05:36

Further details are going to be released in parliament on Monday. I'm wondering if an amendment to the regulations is going to be issued, which requires parliamentary approval, eg to change the type of shops that can open.

It's also in these regulations or the associated guidance which I can't currently find a link to, that talks about mixing households, so maybe there will be more information about this too.

FGS do people not have patience any more? We will know more later today!

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2020 05:39

Op please ignore the snark. Christ on a bike. This thread.

I agree with Ok even though there is a threat of increased fines. The government have left it specifically vague. They are still aiming for herd immunity even though any discussion skirting on this issue has been dropped due to public outrage. Patrick Valance is on record saying it on a news channel and I watched the interview on twitter.

There have indeed been countless threads on the subject. I agree with the consensus that leaving it deliberately vague means that the government can also distance itself from the resulting spike in deaths and infections. Then a second liberal lockdown will be announced or a more severe one if the spike is too high.

So what is the message? The message is do what you have been doing but a bit more of it. Recommence working whether that’s at home or travelling etc. Fill in the blanks yourself.

Everything the government announces has a political agenda rather than a humanitarian one. If you want the answers, you need to look through that particular lens. Ergo if we are told to wear masks, this will for political gain and public appetite rather than scientific study, much like lockdown, which was forced on government. If wearing masks were to protect society, we would be wearing them already but that would be counterproductive to herd immunity. This is a reactive, not proactive government with a ruthless agenda.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/05/2020 05:41

Oh, and they're going to answer questions from members of the public too.

Usually they do this during the 5 pm daily briefing, broadcast on the BBC but thats not on the schedule for today but there will be information on the BBC news channel or website.

CJsGoldfish · 11/05/2020 05:53

What does any of it mean?
