TO not understand why years 10 and 12 are not the priority

Why on earth are year 6 a priority to go back to school but not years 10 and 12 who desperately need the teaching time due to exams next year? If only years 10 and 12 went back now it should be possible to socially disatce them by using the large rooms (eg sports halls/canteens) to teach lessons for large classes and larger classrooms for the less busy subjects.

I just feel that this cohort is going to be even more screwed over than years 11 and 13

Yabu - years 10 and 12 don't need to be a priority
Yanbu years 10 and 12 need to go back after half term

No the whole cohort aren’t in the same position here.
It is not a level playing field.
Many public school children are having their full timetable with online access to all their lessons and teachers. Their days haven’t really changed- it’s just that they’re doing it from home.

My children's days have changed massively, and for the worse. However, they are indeed having full timetables and something that at least resembles the education they would otherwise have been receiving.

Scrabbling around for some possible logic, I wonder if the decision to have Reception and Year 1 back first is about making it easier for parents to work from home. Yes, if they also have a Y2/3/4/5 child they won’t be able to leave that child at home and tootle off to the office, but presumably (and I say presumably as my oldest child is only 4) the older the child is, the easier it is for the parent to get some meaningful work done at home while the child does their own schoolwork /plays /entertains themselves with a screen. With just an 8/9/10 year old around, the parent might get in a few solid hours of work, but a 4/5/6 year old needs pretty much constant attention/ supervision/ help to do their work. Then Y6 are going in to say goodbye/ prepare for senior school.

I agree that the more littlies can go in the easier it is for parents to WFH - although I doubt many parents will find that easy with a year 2 around. However the idea year 6 need a whole half term to say goodbye/prepare for senior school is absurd.

It is pretty clear that years 10 and 12 who really need to be in aren't going to be allowed back other than for the odd bit of "face to face time" with teachers this side of September although it shouldn't be beyond the wit and facilities of most schools to have those 2 years back with a good degree of social distancing. Frankly it must be as important for them to be back (even if they need to use publuc transport to get there) as most factories and construction sites which seem to be encouraged to do so now.
