...doesn't it? What the hell is the logic behind primary children possibly going back but not nurseries or childminders?

Or has he just missed them out and they'll be included in guidance tomorrow? (Clutches at straws)

Magicbabywaves · 10/05/2020 19:46

I think (don’t know) that in the guidance tomorrow it will include nurseries.

gingganggooleywotsit · 10/05/2020 19:47

I was wondering the same. Nobody really knows we will just have to wait and see if it gets bought up this week..I might email my child's nursery manager this week and see if she has heard anything though!

pandarific · 10/05/2020 19:47

Oh my god I hope you're right. Wine

Dishwashersaurous · 10/05/2020 19:48

Seems he missed it out, reading the reporting around it

WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin · 10/05/2020 19:49

I think you need to wait for the full document to be out tomorrow - I'd be surprised if nurseries and childminders aren't allowed to, given that they're businesses.

I've got no skin in this as DD has been going to nursery throughout but I'm fairly confident that they will go back same time as schools.

Thehop · 10/05/2020 19:50

I work in a nursery and we know nothing different at the moment, but as a general rule we do what school do....

Bluntness100 · 10/05/2020 19:51

I think you’ll know tomorrow but Beth rigby on sky was reading some detailed guidance and she seemed to think nurseries back with primary schools,

Apparantly there is a document to be issued, so more detail tomorrow, this was just the high level summary,

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 10/05/2020 19:53

I guess in nurseries there is a lot of physical contact with children especially babies/toddlers

In primary schools less so

Angel2702 · 10/05/2020 19:55

Most of my family are teachers so without guidance on childminders what are they supposed to do with their under 3s when they go back to work?

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 20:01

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/politics/2020/may/10/boris-johnson-coronavirus-lockdown-shops-schools-june-reopening

However, Johnson said his ambition was to get shops and primary schools back from 1 June, starting with reception, year 1 and year 6. It is understood that he would also want nurseries and other early years providers to return at the earliest opportunity.

BeatrixPottersAlterEgo · 10/05/2020 20:01

What are those who work in schools meant to do with their babies and toddlers? Especially if they have family members who usually do some of the care

PicklePig31 · 10/05/2020 20:25

Guardian is reporting that preschool and nurseries are included in the primary phased opening advice. They are usually correct in their reporting (unlike the DM et al).

I reckon they’ll go back with the primary year groups above (R, Y1 and Y6), all being well, on June 1st. @pandarific.

I’m a secondary teacher and feel so very sorry for the kids I teach.

pandarific · 10/05/2020 20:26

Oh I'm so relieved 😭

OP posts:
Maybelatte · 10/05/2020 20:27

Bizarre they chose those years imo. There’s no way 4/5 year olds will socially distance.

Sunshinegirl82 · 10/05/2020 20:29

Early years and primary will not be expected to socially distance. It would be impossible.

DahliaDay · 10/05/2020 20:30

So why didn’t he mention them?

No household mixing mentioned so until then I can’t see childminders working

mindutopia · 10/05/2020 20:31

I work in public health and I suspect that 4-6 year old have been chosen because they are lower risk than older years (year 6 will be higher risk but the balance is because it’s such a pivotal transition period). I assume nursery and preschool will be the same because of the lower risk, but school preschools may be more reluctant than private nurseries if staffing is an issue across the school.

BendingSpoons · 10/05/2020 20:31

I reckon they chose yR and y1 as they are the children it's hardest to have at home whilst you are meant to be working.

DD is at a school nursery. I wonder if she won't be back for a while as the school will need the space. It is an infant school, so yR and y1 are more than half the school.

BendingSpoons · 10/05/2020 20:33

Interesting mindutopia that they are the lowest risk.

june2007 · 10/05/2020 20:34

No one is going back yet anyway.

NuffSaidSam · 10/05/2020 20:35

I reckon guidance on childcare will be included in the detailed report tomorrow.

I don't know what the guidance will be though. Who knows?! Nothing is predictable at the moment.

2beautifulbabs · 10/05/2020 20:38

Sadly it doesn't matter for us in wales we aren't even considering children going back to school in June

What on Earth is happening why has the United Kingdom now become the "untied" kingdom each country separated and making different decisions it's scary because does this mean we will have an increase now in people from England trying to come to rural parts of wales as it's for exercise reasons if Boris is allowing people in England to travel for exercise now I just don't get it.

Yet in wales we are only allowed out for more exercise than once a day but still have to remain local and oh they are opening garden centres again wow I can't contain my sheer excitement at that 😒.

Scotland isn't even changing anything they remain the same as before

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2020 20:39

Will be interesting to see tomorrow, bit of an omission in statement.

NuffSaidSam · 10/05/2020 20:40

I think he left loads of stuff out, if was very much a brief synopsis. The full document is about 50 pages apparently.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 10/05/2020 20:43

Its key yeargroups isnt it? Reception who are just starting, year 6 who are moving up to secondary next year and I think year 10 who are have to cover material for exams. That's what I thought anyway.
