...doesn't it? What the hell is the logic behind primary children possibly going back but not nurseries or childminders?

Or has he just missed them out and they'll be included in guidance tomorrow? (Clutches at straws)

I'll be happy if nurseries don't go back for a while - we are safer at home.

MarshaBradyo · 10/05/2020 20:47

If nurseries go back dd would be the only one out of the home (eg for work or school). She only did it two mornings a week for a break for me. Not sure if it’s worth it. Still have to pay however.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/05/2020 20:49

Surely nurseries have to go back- fingers x.

Tbh I’ve never heard the government address pre schoolers- always just a schools

x2boys · 10/05/2020 20:52

They also haven't mentioned special school,s my son is in year five so not affected ,but cognitively he's more like a three year old .

Callimanco · 10/05/2020 20:55

I assume it's Reception and year 1 as those year groups are learning key underpinning skills and missing those can screw up the rest of their school careers, and year 6 because they are in transition.
Y10 and 12 obviously for exams.

Teddy1970 · 10/05/2020 20:58

I work in a nursery and we tend to do what the schools do, that said we've been open all this time for key workers anyway .

Wonderfulstuff · 10/05/2020 21:02

My childcare is a 50/50 split of nursery and grandparents so for me I need guidance on both otherwise it's pointless. The only advantage of DH being laid off is that he be the primary carer at the moment but at some point he will need to try and find a new job. I'm as clear as mud on all this. Confused

Peppafrig · 10/05/2020 21:06

@2beautifulbabs Scotland has changed their exercise we are now allowed out more than once a day to exercise .

londonskyline · 10/05/2020 21:08

After the briefing, Beth Rigby (sky) did a summary and said that it included nurseries and childminders being able to open on June 1st under same guidance.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/05/2020 21:10

The answer will be clear tomorrow. He can't cover every last thing in one broadcast.

Peppafrig · 10/05/2020 21:10

June 1st isn't any good for parents being told to go back next week. What are we meant to do with our kids till then ?

Figgygal · 10/05/2020 21:11

They want young child back in childcare/school to get people back to work and kickstart the economy so I expect more information tomorrow

CoronaMoaner · 10/05/2020 21:15

All the papers are reporting nurseries are back 1st June. I imagine this’ll be clarified tomorrow.

annie987 · 10/05/2020 21:16

60% of our school staff are classed as vulnerable so won’t be available to teach on June 1st regardless.

happyandsingle · 10/05/2020 21:19

Well if nurseries go back I hope their are safety guidelines issued for staff.

happyandsingle · 10/05/2020 21:19

Meant there are

EasterIssland · 10/05/2020 21:21

They’re businesses that are struggling as they were expecting more money through furlough scheme than what they’re getting. We’re not paying any fees at the moment so I’d be surprised if they stayed closed beyond June Tbh. Many won’t survive if this lasts for long

nobodylikesacockwomble · 10/05/2020 21:29

My husband has to go back to work next week, I'm working from home so have no idea what we're meant to do about childcare for DD (14 months). There's no way I can work and look after her, and our usual childcare is grandparents and nursery- neither of which is available. If either of us have to take unpaid leave then we probably won't be able to afford nursery... definitely worrying times ahead for loads of people ☹

DanceItOut · 10/05/2020 21:31

I mean the bigger issue here is that if they want people to go back to work from this week but even the prioritised years aren’t going back until June at the earliest how are a load of these people going to go back to work? Especially without being able to look to any friends or family for back up childcare. Preschool, nursery, primary, doesn’t really matter at this point. They want adults back in work to get the economy working again BUT a bunch of those adults have children at home that can’t go to childcare/school.

Jenasaurus · 10/05/2020 21:31

Shops and primary schools to return from 1 June, starting with reception, year 1 and year 6. It is understood he would also want nurseries and other early years providers to return at the earliest opportunity. The date 29th June for nurseries has been mentioned.

Monipop84 · 10/05/2020 21:36

@Jenasaurus where did you read June 29th?

Esptea · 10/05/2020 21:39

They won't be back in June. The teaching unions are all up in arms. They've made it very clear they don't think British schools can work with the sort of social distancing proposed. The options then are basically to wait until there is a proper means of tracking and tracing and cases are so low that this is possible.

pandarific · 10/05/2020 21:40

June 29th?!? That's a hell of a difference from June 1st. Sad

OP posts:
Mysterian · 10/05/2020 21:42

I work in a baby room. Hope all the babies are OK with me rolling their bottles towards them from 2 metres away and changing their nappies with very long tongs. No hugs either, and I'll be wearing a lovely hazmat suit too. Maybe I can put some Frozen stickers on the air tank to cheer it up a bit.

Social distancing will not work in a nursery. I'd risk working for key-workers though.

shirleyschmidt · 10/05/2020 21:42

Oh my god June 29th?! That will make it 3 months of us WFH full time with a preschooler and a toddler. Great!!!!! 😫
