There will also be some employers who want to do the right thing, but dont know precisely what PPE is needed, or cant source it due to shortages. Guidance on masks is poor. And many of the better masks should be personally 'face fitted'

LittleFoxKit · 10/05/2020 20:41

Yes that's exactly what the public have shown in the past 7 weeks @SusieOwl4. The pictures that evidence this are everywhere! The groups of people who have been sitting along my local cycle paths evidence this, PP who have stated people have been in parks less then 2m away from each other have evidenced this. The amount of people that police have turned around having travelled over 3hours plus during lockdown to beaches, mountains and beauty spots have evidenced this. It has been evidenced so many times. That's not saying everyone ignores the rules, but unfortunately enough are that it's become evidence a lot of people are either ignorant or simply dont care.

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 20:41

I was reading that they are considering making working from home a legal right, so your employer can't say no if your job can be done from home. I really hope that happens as my employers are cunts and will pointlessly drag me into the office if they possibly can.

Therealfatshady · 10/05/2020 20:43

I personally predict that schools won't be going back until September.

MasakaBuzz · 10/05/2020 20:43

@Marsalimay - that’s what I mean about common sense. Yes it’s breaking the rules, but the risk to ourselves and others from that action is minimal.

The other day, I took my dog out for an extra walk. I went to the local chemist. Picked up a prescription took it to another chemist a few doors down and got it filled. I then received a phone call asking me to go back to the original chemist and pick up a second prescription, which I did. I then walked my dog further than we have been for a while, and deposited the prescription on someone’s doorstep.

Both situations had a minuscule element of risk. However my personal risk assessment was that the benefits outweighed the risk.

So carry on huffing........

mumwon · 10/05/2020 20:44

clear as mud
he wont have long enough tomorrow to answer all questions -like child care - & if dc or parent is vulnerable what happens than? & can you get fined if you don't take dc to school?
& its all if
\Germany has got an outbreak as has S Korea

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 20:44

@Fromthebirdsnest

No I am sure there are families with high vunerable members that feel the same . I am sure that will be covered in the detail .

It’s not worth the risk for some .

We still a have to protect the most vunerable .

daisychain01 · 10/05/2020 20:44

I think it was clearer than people are making out

Yy, @SusieOwl4 if only people would stop poking at Boris' hair, Boris' hand gestures, Boris' speech, etc etc ad nauseam, and actually took in what he was saying and start to think about what it means to them, how can they make this work for them in their situation, it would do their morale and MH a lot more good than sinking into the mire. I despair, these threads get worse, people are their own worst enemy.

I've got my plan sorted to see my DM after not seeing her for 2 months, it really isn't that difficult!

BlackberryCane · 10/05/2020 20:45

I don’t think it’s sneering

There has certainly been sneering on this thread about people not understanding susieowl4. But let's use a different description if you prefer, let's say the standard shouldn't be whether some posters on a website that skews privileged state that they find it clear and don't understand any confusion. Because it shouldn't be. That would be a useless standard.

As for more clarity tomorrow, I hope so, particularly as I do some childcare for my sister who works in hospitality and she's worried. But that's only speculation, we don't actually know. And there are without question areas that are unclear now, that's not a matter of opinion in the slightest. Saying they might be cleared up at some point in the future doesn't make it clear now.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/05/2020 20:46

90% of people have abided by the rules. It was never going to be 100% - I don't know why people are so adamant that every Tom Dick and Harry is sneaking off to a house party and so we should have tighter restrictions

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/05/2020 20:46

Look at it this way...

Boris did not announce that the current speed limit of 70mph on motorways is being increased...

Does this mean that the speed limit is changing?

NO...if it hasn’t been explicitly stated then there is NO change!

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 20:48

@Oysterbabe

Yes the government can not account for every employers attitude but they did say there would be h&s guidance so I would think if employers ignore it they could be in trouble .A lot of companies have taken the last few weeks getting everything possible in place . And we have a supplier making screens for shielding tables in restaurants.

There are things going on that people don’t know about .

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 20:50

@BlackberryCane

Yes I have members of my family who need clarification , but they appreciate you can’t cover every eventuality in one short statement .

I am sure the press will be on it tomorrow .

BlackberryCane · 10/05/2020 20:53

Yes I have members of my family who need clarification , but they appreciate you can’t cover every eventuality in one short statement

Fortunately none of mine are sufficiently far removed from reality to think mention of childcare alongside sectors that are to be reopened is somehow synonymous with covering every eventuality in one statement.

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 10/05/2020 20:59

I don’t understand the difference between going to sit in the sun 2m away from a stranger, people will froth at the mouth of you do this with a friend or family member.

RunningNinja79 · 10/05/2020 21:03

@Oysterbabe I was reading that they are considering making working from home a legal right, so your employer can't say no if your job can be done from home. I really hope that happens as my employers are cunts and will pointlessly drag me into the office if they possibly can

Where was this? I too am worried my employer will make me go back to the office even though I've been WFH since March. They have already made noised to that effect. The guidelines do say if you can't work from home, but also if you can be at work safely then go to work.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/05/2020 21:05

The combination change to allow more exercise a day and to sunbathing is more significant than it seems or that he spells out.
This is intended to signal that people who want to sit next to one friend on a park bench, albeit at a two-metre distance, will be able to. Why Mr Johnson couldn't spell this out more clearly isn't obvious.

The above is in a Sky News analysis of the announcement. If that is the intention, then it wasn't a case of him needing to spell it out more clearly, he didn't say anything which even remotely suggested that.

BeijingBikini · 10/05/2020 21:06

But sunbathing isnt really essential

With all the latest evidence on Vitamin D deficiency and worse Covid outcomes, it actually may be

RichardMarxisinnocent · 10/05/2020 21:10

And ITV.com has this:

Can I meet up with others? You can meet up outdoors with only one person who is not in your household and you must maintain a distance of at least two metres from them.

FFS. If this really is allowed it's a significant change and he really needed to tell us about it.

Violetparis · 10/05/2020 21:14

Reporter on BBC News said Year 10 pupils may go back to school but more for a check up with a teacher about progress, rather than actual teaching. Surely if that's all that is going to happen it could be done by telephone or video link for most pupils.

RunningNinja79 · 10/05/2020 21:16

Thanks @Oysterbabe

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 21:18

RichardMarxisinnocent So his speech was so clear that Sky and ITV have both manged to misinterpret it.

foreversville · 10/05/2020 21:18

if you can't get childcare, you can't work.'

So what do millions of parent do if their work opens but all childcare is shut.

Stop working?

Furlough is only meant to cover you if your place of business has been closed not if you can't get childcare.

Can you see the problem now?

AldiAisleOfCrap · 10/05/2020 21:21

That’s not what gov. Says.
